Default Hydrophones/Sonar Range & Pings?

1) Just wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head how far the stock hydrophones on the IIB detect noise in optimal conditions? This way I can plot a circle around my sub to see what area I'm covering while submerged.

2) Also, in SH4 all subs can send a ping to detect target range without surfacing. When does this become available to the U-boots?

With a good hydrophone operator and the KTB aparatus your listening range is approximately 20 kms.

34km maximum (hardcoded) if you listen yourself.

You may want to read the manual of this mod:

What about sending pings to get range? I see on the hydrophone unit there's a 'Sende' label but no button.

You need sonar for that.
