I'm assuming that if I click on say '550 ft.' on the gauge that the sub will actually dive to that depth, now, or do we still have to use the Shift-D command for diving below test depth?

Only changes the depth gauge displayed in the sub interior. Interaction/ordering of depth, is through the ordersbar UI. So, youll have to use Shift+D, and then A to stop your decent when below 450 feet. I admit, this mod is purely asthetic. Looks cool, thats why i posted it. :rotfl: |

new one-improved version??
Hi all!
I'm a new one.. I think this new gauge is awesome...but 600ft is not much. Is it posible to make a 900ft one?? Even a 800ft could fit I guess. I'm asking this bacause the Balao class has a crush depth of over 650 feets, (between 650 and 900 actually) and since you've created this great looking 600ft dial pheraps you could make a 900ft one...so every deep-dive enthusiast will be able to dive his sub at the max depth with a working dial in his command room! Let me know what you think.

I could make a 900 ft one quite easily, but im not going to because thats a bit too unrealistic to me. While i can't substantiate it, i think some subs had a 600 ft gauge (such as balao), but im quite sure that was it.
As an side, this mod is just one part of a mod ive been working on since yesterday. Im going to play this game now dammit, but i can't make up my mind what boat. (im not doing Tautog again, ive restarted that career game too many times). But im pretty sure it will be either a Tambor, gar, gato, or balao - and they all share the same interior. So ive trying to spice up that interior a bit more to my liking while i make up my mind what career game i want to do. Probably contrary to most, i dont use the control room that much, but i pratically live in the conning tower. All of my personal "go back to previous view" mappings bring me back to CT. Captain operated out of the CT nyway. So im focusing my efforts to make it feel a bit more authetnic. I may extend that to the control room a little bit once i figure a few things out. Right now im just working on a little textures, lighting, and figure something out with the torpedo status lights which are purely asthetic and do nothing. I have already got a free cam working in the CT that functions like the ROW CR cam. |

I understand your interest for absolute realism, Ducimus. What I do not understand is Why a 900ft gauge would be necessary unrealitic...I mean, if a boat has a crush depth of over 600 feets, (between 650 and 900 according to wiki) it is a nonsense limitig the internal dials at a shallower depth. Think about security: if your hull collapses at 700ft i.e, how could you know how far is the sub from such depth if the on board instruments only arrive at 450 or 600 ft?? German U-Boats had an operational depth of 165 meters, but the depth gauges arrived at 260 and more.
Realism means that sensors and instruments ranges should be grater than the actual capability of the boat. Otherwise the boat could reach collapse depth without notice it until they start flooding (when it's too late in other words). Well, In my opinion at least... However i can demonstrate that some subs (balaos) had a 800Ft depth gauge.. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...t=crush+depths and some dived deeper than 600ft returning in one piece ![]() http://www.usschopper.com/Chopper%20...e%20Report.htm

I wonder, is this gauge based on Oakgrove's interior? If memory serves, TMaru uses that set (at least I snatched it from an older TMaru version).

Maybe my definition fo Realism is not correct...but how do you explain "Mr. Realism"
![]() And are you so sure that the 450 ft gauge in the original game is historically correct fo ALL boat classes?? The dev used the same model in all subs...from S-class to Blao class. This is NOT realism, I assure you. They used the same texture---> RECYCLE!! Moreover, if this 450 ft gauge is the right one even ducimus' new 600ft dial i historically fake...so NOT REAL. If the 600 one is NOT REAL, then we can use a 900 or a 1500 one in the same way.
