IT just depends on how much of a deposit you have and how much you borrow. Too many people borrowed too much and banks gave people money they couldn't afford to repay. The the couple of loans that I've had, I've had a reasonable deposit, borrowed an amount I could afford to repay (it was tought the first year or two, but it got easier after that) and paid off extra when I could.
