As we say, while there may be friendly nations, there are no friendly intelligence services.

We were well overdue for one of these incidents.

'Conspiracy to act as unlawful agents of a foreign government' and 'Conspiracy to launder money' have to be the best accusations I've ever heard anyone being accused of!

I wonder if a detailed investigation will lead to a disclosure of what information they passed on?

They were allegedly trained by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) to infiltrate policy-making circles and collect information, according to court papers filed in the US court for the southern district of New York.

The group allegedly got close to a scientist involved in designing bunker-busting bombs and a top former intelligence official.
I also recall reading in the earlier report that I posted last night that Russia was also interested in US intentions towards Iran.

Economic espionage is very much en vogue, and some say it has led to even more spionage activity than during the cold war.

And no, it does not stop at the claimed allied/befriended nation's door. Germany's biggest spionage problems in the economic field are China, Russia, Israel (!) and - the US (!!).

Whatever, if any, information is passed for public consumption won't be true. The 'security' forces are pretty tight-lipped.

Every nation spies on every other nation, friend and foe. Some get caught.

Even the evidence at trial will likely have sections that are 'classified' and 'restricted' so that we won't get much in the news.
