Default Recommend a good sub book?

Can anyone recommend a good sub book that will show decent cut away views of different subs and detailed info on the subs.
I bought illustrated submarines of the world but it seems to try to hard and misses out on alot of what I want.
THANKS.

I don't quite think that's what he was asking for.

Don't get me wrong - I'm re-reading Das Boot again, cos it's bad-ass, but I think he's chasing more of a technical/cutaway kind of book, not a 'story'.

That's exactly what I am looking for but I saw iron coffins for £1.25 second hand and thought why not try it.
But, yes I am looking for a more technical book.

Im my opinion Clay Blairs "hitlers uboar war" volume 1 + 2 (hunters + the hunted) are the most objective i have read and largest!

I also ordered The Encyclopedia of U-boats: From 1904 to the Present.
Seems good.
Thanks for the info everyone, great community on these forums.

+1

I liked Vol 1 so much that I made it a point to get Vol 2 in hardback.

Some of my favorite reference books from my collection:

Anatomy of the Ship: The Type VII Uboat
Encyclopedia of UBoats From 1904 to the Present
Uboat War Patrol: The Hidden Photograhic Diary of U-564
Warship Pictoral #27: Kriegsmarine Type VII Unterseeboot
U-Boot - The History of the Kriegsmarine U-Boats 1935-1945

...but Silversurfer was right - Das Boot and Iron Coffins are both excellent reads in their own rights!

If you really want to delve into the subject then I would recommend

The U-Boat The evolution and technical history of German Submarines

by Eberhard Roessler

ISBN 0-304-36120-8

not an easy read but full of info

Try the anatomy of a ship series, i know they do the type vii and xxi uboats, probably others too. Theyre about the best books you can find for detailed info and plans.
