Recommend a good sub book?
Can anyone recommend a good sub book that will show decent cut away views of different subs and detailed info on the subs.
I bought illustrated submarines of the world but it seems to try to hard and misses out on alot of what I want. THANKS. |
Das Boot or Iron coffins!!!!
|
Thanks I have just ordered iron coffins.
Much appreciated. |
I don't quite think that's what he was asking for.
Don't get me wrong - I'm re-reading Das Boot again, cos it's bad-ass, but I think he's chasing more of a technical/cutaway kind of book, not a 'story'. |
Some of my favorite reference books from my collection:
Anatomy of the Ship: The Type VII Uboat Encyclopedia of UBoats From 1904 to the Present Uboat War Patrol: The Hidden Photograhic Diary of U-564 Warship Pictoral #27: Kriegsmarine Type VII Unterseeboot U-Boot - The History of the Kriegsmarine U-Boats 1935-1945 ...but Silversurfer was right - Das Boot and Iron Coffins are both excellent reads in their own rights! |
That's exactly what I am looking for but I saw iron coffins for £1.25 second hand and thought why not try it.
But, yes I am looking for a more technical book. |
Im my opinion Clay Blairs "hitlers uboar war" volume 1 + 2 (hunters + the hunted) are the most objective i have read and largest!
|
I also ordered The Encyclopedia of U-boats: From 1904 to the Present.
Seems good. Thanks for the info everyone, great community on these forums. |

Great book.... with 100's of interior pictures of boat and crew. :yeah: |
oops..well try Wolf pack by Gordon Williamson and Wolf Packs by time life. Very good books with loads of info!
|
If you really want to delve into the subject then I would recommend
The U-Boat The evolution and technical history of German Submarines by Eberhard Roessler ISBN 0-304-36120-8 not an easy read but full of info |
May I recommend you have a look in this "The Book Ressource Share-thread"? http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...5/m/7411031737
It would be much easier to have a thread like "Stay away from these books!" and it would probably be a very short thread, too. Haven't really found any books not recommendable? :hmmm: |
|
Just do a search on the net..Uboats...all kinds of tech info and cut sheets.
