.....and we still don't have an SH4 Commander yet!?!?!?!?
![]() (and before anyone jumps on me, I'd do it if I had anywhere near the talent and brains some of these modders have but I don't, I'm only good at pointing out the obvious, LOL). |

To be honest, I never used SH3 Commander. What does it do specifically that warrants it's creation?

This is a trick question, right?
No? Okay... It allows you to juggle all sorts of parameters with the click of a button: wave height, gun reload time, time compression, and more I can't think of off the top of my head (I'm not home so I can't look either). It gives a realistic database of almost all 42,000 uboatmen, divided by first and last, for a combination of 1.7 billion possible crew names. It has an option for realistic career length, along with your captain's pre-and-postwar history (something copied by SH4). It gives historical names to every merchant you sink. It allows instant randomization of just about anything you can think of, including merchant, warship and sub skins changing by date. It allows you to go in and edit your patrol logs - unfortunately not during but after the patrol, which is still quite nice. There's more, but as I said I can't remember everything while I'm at the library. As far as I'm concerned it is the single best thing created for SH3 - and yes, that includes the supermods.

I would, I offered, but I'm tired. S3D still isn't finished for the same reason. I see such a program could be very usefull, and if it wasn't for S3D I definately would have made that instead but it just is too much work, and to do another long development project without compensation honestly isn't worth my time anylonger... (S3D has taken roughly 16 hours on average per week for 1.5 years, do the math)
Not to mention that SH4 is aging, and SH5 is around the corner... By the time I would be done with such a program!? I have other projects that I rather work on now... That, and I still need to finish up S3D v1.0... ![]()

No, seriously Steve, I have never used this program. I played GW 1.? way back when. I did not feel I needed SH commander. All was dandy as far as I was concerned. I did not want to change waves, sky, skins, etc. I loaded and played what the fellas brought to the table. On your list, probably the historical name of the vessel sunk would be of interest to me. I have no interest in a patrol log. The log in the office (SH4) showing start date/end date and ships sunk is enough for me. Historical names, I never look at the names of my crew. Something that does not interest me. I understand that commander would make mechanical breakdowns which is a cool function. Other than that, playing GW 1.?, TMO, RFB, OM I did not think it was necessary. There must be more to it.

The feature in SH3 Commander I remember most was the automatic crew rotation. It would "roll the die" and remove random crewmember(s), giving a realistic explanation for each departure. It definitely added to the "ambiance".

Likewise the crew names. Before they were created for SH3 I never cared. Then I noticed the repeating, boring names, and Commander made that much better. I also like the patrol log function. It's amazing how some of us can consider something to be absolutely vital and others can consider it to be no use at all. One man's theology is another man's belly laugh. No, wait, that was meat and poison. ![]() Quote:

Oh well. I thought at one point that SH3 Comd could be modded to SH4 but the code is proprietary I suppose.
![]() I guess screwing around with MS Access will have to continue (and it ain't a pretty sight, LOL). ![]() |
