Default Navigation!!

How do you navigate your boat? I never use the 'plot course' line running from the boat except when I have a contact and am working out the place to be !! I normally use the ruler, drawing a line along the direction I want to be travelling in, note the compass reading and turn the boat via the compass
It feels much more like 'real' navigating??

I use course plotting. I have a perfectly good Navigator I tell him where I want to go and he makes it so

true my navigator plans my transits, maneuvers to intercept,
and sometimes though not always final orientation in an attack.

but if it goes south then I have the helm in my hand.
I tend to stay at peridepth if it turns ugly.
