In career mode you have to start from a main base.

Be prepared for a long trip, because in the alternative history of SH4 the Panama Canal hasn't been built yet

OMG that would be awesome! To be able to take a sub from sea trails, to commissioning, to shake down cruise, to transit cruise, then off to Pearl and points beyond. You probably be reassigned before reaching the end of the war, but would be interesting . . . even dodging friendly fire in the gulf . . . damn those hot shot airmen, thinking they are the ****.

To the OP's point.... I think.... I'm using TM (1.7.2 now) and while I've heard folks talking about New London and the ability to start a new construction career from there, I've never seen it. I've tried clicking on the New Construction entries in the career start drop down, but every one seems to lead to Mare Island, CA.

If anyone knows where to to find the New London option, I'd appreciate a hint or two.

You can go to sub school in Groton, CT. It's a mod available at http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=121100

Nothing wrong with good old Mare Island, many a boat and ship was constructed there . . . to sad the USN went with the Megaport idea . . . not that I mind being in San Diego, and all. However, you can also blame the liberalization of the SF Bay Area since the late 60's for this one. Once home to a good percentage of the Pacific Fleet . . . now a military desert . . . even the NG & Reserve units there I here are under siege.

Ah... cool. I didn't realize it was a separate mod. I assume it's 1.4 and latest TM compatible?

Thanks

Yup. San Francisco officials in their moonbat wisdom even rejected the veteran WW2 battleship USS Iowa from becoming an exhibit in the Bay Area.

Smug idiots. I'm surprised they haven't kicked out the USS Pampanito. After all a war machine is a war machine.

If the panamal canal existed, id have put some in new london too. But since the panamal canal doesnt exist, mare island was the only logical choice.

I have seen that the SH3 folks have added the Kiel Canal. I wonder how difficult it would be to mod. I also remember reading about some of the S class boats patrolling out of Panama. Just a thought, though. I would volunteer to do it but I have no idea how it would be done.

Respectfully Submitted

I've been watching for the Terrain Editor for SH4 for just this reason... well, and Truk Lagoon too. ;-) The Manitowoc boats came down the Mississippi river in floating drydocks to Louisiana then like the East Coast boats through the Panama canal...... hopefully someday.

Happy Hunting!
