Hello!
I am a new SH5 player and I am aware that Ubi dropped the ball on this one. I am not familiar with the details but suffice to say that the general feel I got was that Ubi did a sim and left it up to the community to fix and polish it, right? So please allow a few questions from a newbie: 1. Is the game playable with NO MODs, just patched to 1.2? 2. Are there mods that significantly alter the game experience? Basically, I would like to play the game as accurately as possible (but with external views and cams, I am an eye-candy whore!) and do the "hunt" as realistic as possible. I once read in SH3 that good players can target the front, mid, or back hull of the ship for maximum damage, I'd like to get to that level of awesomeness. I assume at this point that this is not do-able with no mods. So, are there mods that I should be installing right-the-hell-now? Are there mods that alter the game experience in a good way and should be installed for a first-time playthrough? Are there mods that alter the game experience so much that it is better to leave it for later playthroughs when I am more experienced? I know there are a ton of mods and there are threads about these as well, but I would like to throw my concerns out first. "Too many cooks spoil the broth" as they say so I don't want to mod my game so much that I don't know what went wrong where, especially as I am a total newbie to this game. Any help and advice appreciated! Thanks! |

Ha! Dumaguete! Are you still there? Kabayan! Bisaya pud!
I was wondering if I should bother with the beginner mods or just jump straight in to the proper realistic mods recommended by stoianm? |

With the torpedo speed fix and hydrophone fix mod the game is quite playable, and with manual targeting you can hit a ship in specific areas as you mentioned you want.
But: Stock AI is pretty dumb. IRAI ramps up the ai to a proper level. Stock interface is playable but clumsy. Darkwaith's interface mods are highly recommended. If your pc can handle it, why not get the environment and interior mods as well? Things look 10 times better. Eye candy does not make a sim a sim but pretty is, well, pretty. (See the screenshots thread) |

"If my PC can handle it..."
i5 740 OC to 4.2GHz, 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, ATI HD 6970, Win7 Home 64-bit. How far can I push this game? ![]() I guess I better drop the "play this game stock" idea and just jump in to the mod pool straight away! ![]() |
