Hello!
I have now evaded the warship about an hour now, I started to track a convoy and when I started to intercept it the warship noticed me. Do you have any advices for me to re-engage the convoy without getting noticed? Before, I attacked in a daylight, now I think it would be best to do a night attack. I have just learned how to fire a torpedo manually and I have bad/moderate skills to evade warships. I have only noticed one warship in that convoy and largest ships of the convoy I have seen is medium cargo. Should I leave the convoy alone and hunt lonely ships, considering that my skills are very limited? |

Are you surfaced when detected or submerged?
If on the surface you should stay at least 8km-10km away from the escorts to not be seen. If it is later in the war then you may be being picked up on radar in which case you need to be much further away. If you are submerged then you have to remain quiet to remain undected. Slow approaches are best made from in front of the convoy's so you are better off surfacing, and staying a good distance from the convoy tracking it's path and meeting it further along that path either submerged or decks awash to reduce the chances of getting spotted. |

Keep evading until you lose the escort. Once clear, surface run ahead of the convoy and try again--good luck, Kaleun.

In terms of evasion I go deep 200m plus, and go silent running. Personally I don't turn the boat much but as far as possible I get my profile as small as possible by getting bow or stern on to the escort.

The year is 1939. I was submerged when the escort suddenly noticed me. I don't think my boat can handle the pressure in over 200m, I'm now sitting in about 140m (I didn't even test my maximum depth, what I now deeply regret, so I don't want to risk my boat and go too deep...). Thank you for your advices! I'll tell then what happened when I have engaged them again.

Well, I engaged the convoy at night. After I moved to the periscope depth and started attacking, my sonar man announced that warship was coming fast to my dircetion. I rose my periscope and took a quick look. Yeah, merchants were searching for me by their spotlights and escort is coming fast to my direction. I evaded the warships about an hour. It was tough, I got flooding and my stern was damaged pretty bad. Finally I ran away from it (or them) and just in case I ran silently few hours to the deeper water. I failed, again...
I decided to not engage the convoy anymore. |

Only three posts in a row...
I have now encountered a new convoy. I took it's course and speed and immiaditely when I turned about 2000m from convoy running silent the escorts noticed me right away. Maybe I was too close? Well, I now try to evade the escorts and move to intercept. This time I won't go home after I have sunk at least 10000 tonnages. Yes it is not much but I'm total rookie and I'm happy to sunk at least one ship. |

What was your speed when you were detected? I assume you were submerged?
When near the escorts don't go above ahead slow. Even if you have the silent running engaged, they'll hear you if your engines are making too much noise.

i always try to keep my stern facing the dd (as much as poss) and stay at 2kts unless they're on a speed run over me and dropping dd's
i get as deep as poss cause you get more time to run away from those falling depth charges. random course changes help too, keep em guessing where you are and having to twist and turn, especially if your in shallow water! if you get the opportunity too, see if you can't get em with your stern tube! set it slow and shallow or go for a deeper magnetic shot and sometimes you get lucky ![]() |

If you go submerged at standard speed they (the escorts) will always detect you..... |

With SH3Commander's Randomize Crush Depth switched on, 250-270m. Without it, I don't know.
