NYGM or GWX - newbie needs help

I've looked over both GWX and NYGM and can't tell what the primary differences are. I'm on my first career and have only made a couple minor tweaks to the root files. Can anybody give me some help?

First of all it depends on how fast is your PC.NYGM was made for those who have a bit slower PC's.GWX has better graph. As far as I know there is a thread with a question what's the difference between them:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=125075
Read both manuals. For nygm you need file with ver.2.0 or 2.2.Later ver.had only shortened manual. And of course threads concerning both mods. For gwx:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=102096 and lots more but spread, and NYGM:

have fun

GWX is undisputably the most popular. If your rig can handle it, I would recommend GWX.

Good hunting

I have a 3.2Ghz processor, 1.5GB RAM, and a GeForce 7600GT. Is that good enough for GWX?

Agree with BBW
I have 3.0, 1 gb ram and a 6800 and running it so you shouldn't have any problems.

Why not get em both and have a dual install? Then you can play in different ways depending on how you feel.

I'm not computer savy enough to figure out how to do a dual-install. I'll be doing good just to download one mod. I like hardware, not software...

This is a step by step how to for setting up multi installs:

Install of Multiple Versions
1)Complete a fresh install of SH3 + 1.4b as normal.
2)Create a copy of the program folder & rename as required.
3)Install your mod of choice to the renamed version.
4)Create and rename shortcuts as required.
5)Use MultiSH3 to create separate save locations for each install.

SH3 Commander & Multiple Installs
It is recommended to have a separate install of Commander for each different install of SH3.
1)Install SH3Commander and rename the program folder to suit.
2)Rename each SH3Cmdr shortcut as required.
3)You will need to use the l: switch to point SH3Cmdr to the right installation.
Here's an example of the l: switch for dual installs, just tailor it to fit.....
Right click on the SH3Cmdr shortcut & choose properties.

Target "C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander-GWX\SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent HunterIII-GWX"

Start in "C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander-GWX"

Most decently popular games always have community developed multi mod installers so multi installing is as easy as clicking a few buttons, no worries mate.

In the rare case some games have out of the box multi mod installers sucha s the battlefield series)

Just some additional stuff I forgot to put into the check list:

Copy your whole SHIII installation folder and rename it to what you like. Name it GWX or NYGM or what ever you like. The SHIII.exe does not care in which folder it resides.

Take care not to mix up your careers. Dont use a NYGM career for GWX.

You will also need to download Multi SHIII. It patches the hardcoded Name for the folder in OwnDocuments(EigeneDateien)\SHIII\ to another 3letter name of your choice, for instance GWX NYG ABZ XYZ

You can Find the DL Link for MultiSHIII here. Just search for MULTISHIII.

MultiSH3 is the way to go

I use it with 5 installs, ok 4 but one is a vanilla back-up.
