Although I have only had a quick look....couple of training missions and a glance round the Museum.....I am forced to look at your latest offering with my fingers holding the eyeballs firmly in their sockets.

They popped out :o when I saw the minelayer Type 34: Does it really lay those evil looking mines lined up on the stern? And again when I looked at the minesweeper: Does it really sweep mines and can you call it in to clear some of the additional minefields you have put in round the E Coast of the UK? Please note: These questions are only half serious!!!.....

Then there is the smoke blowing in the direction that the wind is coming from. Never thought I would see that in SH3. Nor did I expect to see heavier smoke rising higher than that coming from small fires which can sometimes blow horizontally. Who do we have to thank for that? I know Pascal did the smoke (Thanks Pascal :up: ). Was it Anvart who did the particles?

Then there are the Luftwaffe transmission intercepts. It's strange but I think I know that ground controller! Ran across him about 18 months ago whilst trying to land a crippled Ju 87 somewhere to the southwest of Smolensk!!!

Wonderful, wonderful stuff HS...was delighted to see Urfisch/DivingDuck's magnificent open hatch work included too.

Hope one day to see what else you have included ...if I can ever get around to starting a career in WAC!!!

I did guess that these ships were eye candy. But, no matter - I don't think you can have too much eye ( or ear ) candy...although there are some who might disagree! Great stuff Han :up:

I thought it was blowing in accordance with the wind direction but must admit I didn't get a weather report from Navigator. Never mind though....another visual treat. Well you deserve a rest after all that work. Nearly said make it a week or two. But on second thoughts....you can have a month! Then maybe Redwine and myself might just have enough time to get our WAC's fine tuned and start a career before you come out with 2.2 !!

Sorry if you have misunderstood what I said : before downloading it I was thinking something like "hey, Hansolo have updated the expansion, it's going to take me several days to download the full thing http://www.crypticmadness.com/Forum/images/Smiles/hammer.gif" (considering I have problems with my comp).... So for me, it was just kind of a good surprise to see that it is "just" an update. ;)

I am setting up a mirror - alternate download for the WAC 2.1 files per HanSolo78's permission. It will be a basic download, decent speed, no pop-ups, no annoying banners or obnoxious porn.
For now the 2.1 Update is available (rar), at the moment I am having some difficulty obtaining the 2.1 full files. Need to wait in line like everyone else :huh:

Why does the War Aces Campaign main page download always go to a site with errors and no data to download?

If you dock next to the ship, as you normally would all seems well.
Except when you start the next patrol, or restart the game and start the next patrol your Uboat gets stuck in the Ship! I tried restarting the patrol with several exit - saves and night or day your stuck in the resupply ship.

You can turn to one side and enable engines and the boat eventually "pops" out from under the ship!
So then I tried docking ahead of the resupply ship. This seemed to work! And the game proceeds normally it seems. Except once you begin to pull away the F5 screen shows a land unit of sorts. If you zoom in says there is a missing tga file.

Btw; I have saved this game for now, just before docking and docked ahead as not to be stuck. This way it can be perhaps used to test fixes.

These findings are not complete, but ment as a work around if you find your sub stuck as well.

Do not turn the rudder and enable engines as I mentioned previously!
This seems to move the supply ship, or get it going somehow and later in the patrol you will find the Thalia headed West into the Atlantic (http://mysh3.info/WAC/thalia/44_578.jpg)!

Instead untill a better solution or resolve is made try this;
I found to drop depth to about 9m (avoid hitting the shallow bottom in the Cadiz harbour).
After a minute or so the sub will begin to drift / slide out to one side.

Please belive me when I say I don't understand why this is happening, so I can't offer help there. But I am stubborn enough to try and help fix or work around it.

edited to add #@(*^%)#|| sorry, this is not a consistant work around, unfortunatly. Damn it :damn:

When do you get CTD?
After intro?
If so.. delete d3d9.dll and d3d9.cfg files that belong to the resoluton fix.

Heading north toward Ireland and England, Nov. 1940 in a type VIIB; winds 15mps, clear skies, light fog. Encounter and sink several merchies. Head more easterly, toward England, hydro reports a DD, then a merchant, another merchie ... it's a convoy! As I approach surfaced, I notice all four of the destroyers have been damaged and are on fire (guess my buddies had been here before me)! I report the convoy, then put two fish into a C2, it slows to a crawl. I wait for the destroyers. They converg, I dive and brace for a DCing ... it passes overhead and no DCs! All 4 destroyers have had their DCs damaged or expended! What luck!

Shortly after, a couple luffewaffe AC show up, bomb the limping C2 and damage its engines enough to force it to stop!

Reached wits endsville with trying to get a working 2.0 without any CTD 's :damn:

First, tried Tuddley's 4 files = nope .. so put all 4 files thru JSGME and loaded up with the old screen like nothing had changed then CTD whilst trying to load a single mission .. Grr

Second, tried 2.0 lite via a download link on page 20 .. 'deposit files' = once I'd managed to trawl thru the Casino/Poker garbage and a lifetime later, Un7zipped the file and in she goes via JSGME = nope .. CTD a threequarters way thru the loading screen .. GGGRR

Third, tried 2.1 via JSGME with just 1.9 and patch = nope .. CTD a third way thru the loading screen .. GGGGRRRRR

So now I am considering wiping the whole thing out, installing stock SH3 / 1.4 / JSGME and installing 2.0 then 2.1 ..but ...

is there anywhere I can get a working 2.0 that I can dowload without growing a beard waiting, that's not in bits and I can install via JSGME ? HELP !

The light update isn't on UBRS as of yet.
I wasn't aware the light update was out, but on hansolo78's page I see the link.
If I can grab the file without having to wait for a while I'll repakage it as a zip and upload it to http://mysh3.info/sh3downloads.html (*) It'll be at least 24hrs though, only have a dsl line at home.

* no obnoxious pop-ups or stinkin pornography.

HanSolo78 I am consistantly getting a ctd when I go to exit the game after a save with the 2.1 update. :damn:
I am also getting a ctd most of the time when I go to load a save while still in the game. Once the game is restarted the save seems to load fine. No problems such as this in 2.0 Full.

I liked the boat shaking near explosions, the smoke-fire graphics are nice, and the sounds and some other things that I did get to check out.

This worked for me. Only problem I see is Black Sky bug, but I have the Fix for that.

I got Black Sky fixed, and took WAC2.1 for a test drive. WOW!!!!!
I started from Wilhelmshaven, and OMG, totally awesome. Ships everywhere, even double parked. And I laughed when I saw the oil barrels floating around. Once again, nice work Hans. I am sure there are many other surprises I havent seen yet.

I have the CTD also when exiting(like it matters, it's exiting), but it is caused by the Sound.act file. So if someone can fix that, it would be appreciated. But as I said, it dont bother me because it's during exit from the game.

Tuddley3; I forgot all about the black sky problem file fix because it didn't happen to me. I have been preoccupied trying to get Thalia resupply sweet spot & 2.1 to run correctly but it's not happening. Getting ctd's so I switched back to 2.0 for now.
My system could probably chew on another gig of ram but I don't think that's the problem. Even tried a complete fresh reinstall routine.

Tuddley3; Not sure how you were able to determine sound.act is the fault that but thank you, I was ever impressed as well with the update but just got frustrated and couldn't take the ctd's. Especially when trying to load a save.
I also noticed with 2.1 the t/c was behaving sluggishly on 512+

Yeah Danurve, when I got the exit CTD, and the windows popup came on asking to Send or Do Not Send, I clicked on the Click Here button, and it showed Sound.act as the reason for the CTD.

Visited a translated ubisoft.de page for the mod. Looks as if this is being looked into, not exactly sure. Stats show people are downloading and digging it though :cool:
I would realy like to see this resolved. Not just because what the update has or I want to reload it and enjoy more of WAC, but this is a great mod!

but i think that is not a real problem because with some clicks of mouse buttons or enter youŽll get to desktop in the end.

To be honest I can't see settling on haveing to deal with, or wait for the crash, then spend time waiting for the game to load again for a save. But it is just a game. I'll stick to 2.0 then, it works just fine no ctd.
I have taken some of the sounds from the update into 2.0, and I'd like to try loading the depth charge-shake mod ontop as well. If someone could point out where to get that I would appriciate it.

i fancy givin this mod a try. i have gwx installed to im gonna make a seperate installation and have few questions

1- do people use sub commander with this mod and if so how do u avoid complications with having 2 seperate SH3 installation (gwx+ this mod)

2- gwx has 16km visibility mod does this have the same or is it possible?

3- are AI files improved like gwx and nygm or is this a mod just with events scripted?

4- what other mods are people using alongside this one?

ive also read in some posts that this mod is a lot easier than gwx in regards to damage modeling and AI. If this is true jpw would i go about merging the best of gwx with this mod or vice versa?

The CTD occurs after you've saved then exited [ESC]; it's not an issue as you are exiting the game anyway :)
A problem would be if you returned, loaded the game and your save[s] had disappeared :damn: .

I am sorry that I am not able to fix the CTD problem... it is annoying getting this after exiting the game and I would fix it if I had an idea where the source of this error might be. nevertheless savegames and other the gameplay should work!

btw.

IŽll release an update to 2.11 because because of some bug fixes soon!

1- There is a program called SH3Multi. It is designed so you can have more then one install oviously. Now I don't use it so can't tell you how it works exactly but Im sure if you ask about it in the general forum lots of others could.
4- WAC has darn near everything I want, which is why I like it. I use the torpedo damage final & depthchargeshake with 2.0
I like using my deck gun now and then, early war of course when you can get away with it. Anyhow you can sink a ship give or take without being tied to waterline shots. Things such as this. I don't know if saying WAC is alot easier then gwx would be accurate. I don't beleive that's a fair shake because each mod changes some things and adds others etc. What some way you or I would like to play and enjoy the game someone else may wish to increase their difficulty level so far perhaps because they have played the game so much they have a hidden iron coffin death wish, I dunno. All I can tell ya is I haven't made it out of `42 yet. The air patrols in WAC kick my @ss. I would say if your looking to have mulitple installs it's probably the way to go instead of risking other issues by disecting mods.

I often save a game and then return to it while still in the game, or for example while trying to unstuck myself out of Thialia. In 2.1 in-game returns CTD. So I have to exit the game, restart it and hope the return doesn't ctd and make me restart the game again to return? How about I don't think so, that IS an issue to me.

If I sound upset I'm sorry but I don't want to play the game that way, and so I went back to 2.0 like I mentioned before. No big deal to do. People are commenting or concentrating on the ctd when your exiting the game. Granted its probably a related issue but not the thorn IMO.

edit Hansolo I forgot to mention looking forward to the next update, will it replace 2.1 or will you need to have that installed first? Thanx.

ive got a "war aces campaign folder" which has a data folder inside.
the other downloaded file is "WAC 2.0 extras and sound which has 3 folders

kiel_scapa_suez
kaiser-wilhelm kanal reworked

these 3 files have files inside and a repacker exe. file

what exactly do i do with these, the readme didnt help much as it mentions merging 2 data folders and i only have 1 data folder

I'm surprised to hear you've got two files from Tuddleys mirror.

This normally consisted of 4 parts. You seem to have only got Pt1 and Pt 3.

Just checked with site and find there is only one WAC version 2 file listed for d/l.

Will be happy to help with your install probs but first you need to have all the files and I don't reckon you have!!!

Hopefully Tuddley can throw some light on this.

part 1 was 620mb and part 2 was 430mb

as i said these to downloads do contain 4 folders as stated above. so am i still missing something?

Yes, I'm pretty sure you are. The four parts V2.0 came in were about 1100mb unextracted - about 1.94 Gb when extraction completed.!

In your data folder you should have the following:-

Actually you may have the correct number of files. I was including the Sound files in my 1.94 gb and you may not have!!

Anyway the next steps to install are as follows:-

1. Copy Sound folder into your WAC data folder. Note : These are Mp3 files. Strongly suggest that you convert the gramophone files to mono Ogg format. They can cause skipping otherwise.

2) Run repackers from where they are....they don't need to go into your WAC folder.. You will be asked to point to your installation. Go to WAC/data/Terrain/data and run. They will install automatically. If you look in this folder you will see that each repacker has created a pair of backup files for each terrain item you've added. These backups ( 250 megs each pair ) can be deleted if you wish.

3) Transfer your WAC folder to the appropriate MOD folder and install with JSGME.

Hopefully it will then work OK.

Laffertytig; Sounds like you got the download from http://mysh3.info ? The file sizes you mentioned sound right.
If so Your not missing anything, they were just redone into two downloads instead of four.
If not perhaps you are trying to mix light version files with the full extras.
There is a sound folder in the second d/l it belongs in the data folder.
The second download has the three extra folders that need repacking.
Repackers need to point to Terraindata.BFI

This is not nessesary with the light version to my knowledge, but perhaps as an option.

yeah ive got it goin now thanks for the help. one thing though the load time takes an age and the frame rate aint so good when it starts up, gwx runs a lot quicker.

dunno if u guys know this but its the sound folder thats causin the error message when exiting dunno which file it is though

Good to know you've got WAC up and running.

Can't say I've noticed any particular slow down with WAC but I'm running with 2GB ram.....I think with all the stuff that Han puts in, this mod needs a bit more than the 1GB minimum that Han recommends. GWX is very quick but then it is optimised with all the tgas packed into the dats etc.

As an experiment, I installed WAC 2.0 without using JSGME thus avoiding the back ups and keeping the overall size of the mod down as much as possible. Additionally I made sure to delete the terrain backups saving about 800 meg of disk space. Also made sure to convert the gramophone sound files to mono Oggs as skipping had started to rear its ugly head!

Don't feel confident enough to direct install 2.1 yet...so I used JSGME for this update.

Not sure whether all this really helps to keep the speed up and ctds down...probably doesn't... but I haven't seen a blue screen yet...touches wood frantically! Then again, I've not tried saving in a hectic combat situation.

Thanks for clearing up the mystery of the source of Laffertytig's d/l. Couldn't figure out how he managed to get everything in two files particularly when Tuddley's Filefront page now only shows one WAC 2.0 file of 90 meg!

Say, I was returning to Kiel from patrol and docked next to the port by the canal entrance was this ship, wasn't identified by name. Anyone know what it might be? I mean it's a carrier of sorts yeah but name? - not yet commisioned perhaps?

ok ive downloaded the 2 files from tudleys site and i cant get it goin.

ive got a "war aces campaign folder" which has a data folder inside.
the other downloaded file is "WAC 2.0 extras and sound which has 3 folders

terrain update helgoland
kiel_scapa_suez
kaiser-wilhelm kanal reworked

these 3 files have files inside and a repacker exe. file

what exactly do i do with these, the readme didnt help much as it mentions merging 2 data folders and i only have 1 data folder

Hopefully Tuddley can throw some light on this.

I just checked my FileFront page, and it looks as though there is now only Part 1 of 4. Somehow FileFront is deleting them. Looks like I need to upload again, and maybe put them in a File Directory, maybe this will prevent them from being deleted. I don't understand why this is happening.

I belive the 2.15 update has the high level if anyone wants to try one of the other two levels there you go. I'm working on another custom WAC mod that will reset your 2.15 update back to 2.0 (non-shake).

2) The ship is not there if you return to it again. :hmm:
As long as you dock next to the F5 [.Thalia] mark resupply functions.
Unsure why that is but as long as the boat isn't stuck *shrug*

Bought another gig of ram and that sure helps graphics, load time & jazz.
CTD still happens if you try to load a save in-game. :damn:

Fire, smoke, & sounds are good! The addition of the open-hatch mod is orgasmic :up:

2. it is there but there has to be a distance of about 100Km between you and the supply ship, so that sh3 renders the supply ship new.

the savegame and exit bug has now high priority but itŽs hard to find!

FYI my experience attempting to d/l WAC last night...

1. Visited "official" site. After numerous attempts, managed to connect piece 1 via megaupload.
2. Piece 1 successfully d/l...tried to d/l piece 2 via megaupload, was told to wait 196 minutes!!!
3. Tried depositfiles for piece 2...sorry, no slots in your country. Oh, and you must d/l this ActiveX control too.
4. Tried Tuddley's site (alternate mirror)...umm, where's the files?
5. Tried UBRS (alternate mirror)...umm, where's the files?
6. Tried the tribute site (alternate mirror). Files are in a different format and around 400mb greater in size due to the less efficient compression method used. Plus the file size quoted is also different to the actual size of the files. Would I be getting a true copy/representation of the original mod? I didn't want to chance it.

At this point I gave up. It's all too hard. No WAC for me I'm afraid. :(

I didn't even get a chance to figure out how to open the 000, 001, 002 extension files...

Distribution of WAC has been a problem, a thorn to it's use. Simple as that. Unfortunate too damn it, because as the previous post shows this problem detours people from otherwise trying a great mod as an alternate for SH3 game play.

The tribute site, has the correct versions no one is getting short changed. The quoted size was intended to be just an estimate to make aware the aprox size of the download. But I think to change the wording to avoid possible confusion brought up.

Now, why the different file sizes?
Simply repackaged as two downloads instead of four. I know this increased the file size but I was actually just trying to simplify what to d/l. I belive what these contain was sufficiently explained but I welcome any suggestions.
Also these are not 7z files because it is a windows host. For some damn reason I could not link 7z files so I use rar or zip, (default compression) didn't think that would be an issue.

I may have harped on that a bit but for game play early war when no Biscay ports are open it's realy your only shot for extended patrols so to say.
For example the VIIB has no dual flak untill later, and much later I think early 42 you can get the secondary flak. So I thought hey lets fart around near the Med and maybe hang out untill other jazz is available. First extended patrol paid off as I got to sink lots of jazz, plus intercept a large convoy, in heavy seas rain btw, and turn it into a small convoy!

The update has lots of cookin jazz. Durring escape and evasion the open hatch mod was very cool. Fire & smoke affects, sounds, Slammin`
Be aware outside of Thalia is no easy ride, air patrols still kick your @ss. Mostly fighter-bombers and those large patrol bombers are accurate. With a single flak gun you might as well use tennis balls. Hit the gas and dive.

Sweet!! This fix would appear to work!
I tested this so far on two different careers and multiple saves and reloads. No CTD, Good deal!

Yes it is absolutly compatable.
You are talking about the CTD windows error from 2.15 it was a problem with two sound files.

I am currently uploading WAC 2.0 Light as I type this, then I will follow up maybe tomorrow and upload WAC 2.0 Full & WAC 2.15 Light also. I am aware as I mentioned on the last page in this thread my Downloads are missing, FileFront somehow decided to delete them, and I didn't go to FileFront for a while, so I did not catch their notice of deletion(Which can be stopped). I will now upload them in a Directory this time, so they are more manageable.

I must add, I am getting very happy with WAC since December came along, as it just keeps getting better and better. If it wasn't for Hansolo and his contribution to our community, I would have uninstalled SH3 long ago. Thanks Hans, and I must also thank everyone else who has become a WAC user in the last few months, such as Danurve with his help.

I also would like to welcome JScones to our neck of the woods, nice to have ya.

Update:
I tried to get them all done before I went to bed, but I ran out of time. I have Part 1 of 4 uploaded(2.0 Light), I just have the Terrain Packers and the 2.0 Full Sound folder left to do. By the end of the weekend, I hope to have all Versions uploaded.

Well I managed to get WAC instaled but when I was unpacking the the RAR file that had the sound and extras in it I got a message that said that one of the OGG files was corrupted, and this was in Speech_ En, File 8, Ogg file ChE_P_ We're taking damage. Any ideas on how to fix the problem ?

And what about the evacuation of Dunkirk and the D-Day invaions will you be assinged to any area around there?

Actually youŽll get a radio message to get informed of such major events!
BUT.. a.t.m most of the radio traffic is only available if you play with german language (german u-boat) ;)
In the next version this coul be more detailed in english.
I Žve to think about it but that would be very time consuming and last every long until I have to do this all on my own!

Hans; I have an idea or question realy.

Next to the Thalia resupply there is the Cadiz harbour.
There is always a British transport ship there. I don't know if that is historicly correct or not, but it complicates u-boat travel in and out of the harbour area. Is there a way to edit out that ship just from Cadiz, or maybe change it to Neutral?

did you encounter a convoy or only single ship contacts?
that T3 in your log... is it a T3 or empty T3? because a full T3 should have much more tons!

Hey hans:

The empty tankers were in a small convoy lightly escorted WSW.
The T3 was just behind the Celt tanker in a larger convoy heading NE I think.

I lightened up this screen a bit of the T3 hit, granted it's not the best screen I've done but I think it does show the ship how a normal T3 would be in the water.
I used a T1 running 6.5 with magnetic pistol, the shot seemed to break her back but you can see the second shot trail!

1. How do I revert to the "original" keyboard behavior ("ENTER"= fire torpedo..."BACKSPACE"= pause game)? I'm wasting way too many torpedoes due to incorrect keystrokes as I've learned these keystrokes for almost a year?!

2. Is there a way to make SH3Commander recognize the earlier start of the war in WAC? That way I could use SH3Commander to "pre setup" my first mission. As it is I must run my first WAC career patrol without SH3Commander...THEN I can use SH3C.

3. What is the latest "WAC SH3 events" document? I don't see an "Invasion of Narvik", or many others, in my current "SH3 events" document. I was under the impression that most of the "major" events were added to career patrols (at least as far as being able to change your patrol grid so that you were "in the action")?

4. If I decide to keep my original "Scene.dat", will that hurt any part of WAC? Until someone comes up with a "Depth mapping tool" (SH2 would show you depth in the map, wherever your cursor was, and you could then mark "no go" contours) I need to "see" the edge of my PD limit. Lacking real depth charts in SH3, I might need to find a "coast hugging" course without advertising my position with constant "depth beneath the keel" pings. The only way I see to do this with SH3, at present, is a clear view of the bottom. Not realistic, by any means...but I didn't make the stupid changes to SH3 from what worked well in SH2!

Please realize that I DID do a search...but it's a useless tool with this big of a thread.
These probably won't be the LAST questions...but you must start somewhere?

Is there a way to add the realistic crush depth changes to a WAC install? I can make the necessary changes to the subs with "SH3CrushDepthV2_build12.zip" but I cannot use the "DepthGaugeMoD14.exe" to change the depth gauges to 400 meters, I'm assuming, because WAC uses those nice "slide-out" gauges?

1. use the backup of JSME and search the backupfile of "Commands_en.cfg"
maybe the file is renamed by JSME but you can recognize it.
simply rename it to "Commands_en.cfg" and copy to data/cfg/ !!!

2. you should ask the developer of SH3 Commander. IŽdont know.

3. in latest event ducuments invasion of norway is listed but without giving details of single invasions like narvik. a new manula with detailed historical backgrund information is in the works!

4. changing the scene.dat could lead to sky problem errors. 1,5x waves and 16KM atmosphere are deleted if you change it.

5. all subs use the same depth gauge!

HanSolo...without, I hope, insulting you, there are a few things I would like to alter in the 2.15 WAC, for my personal use, and I can't figure out how on my own.

1. After giving the "slide-out" controls a good try, I've come to the conclusion that I prefer the SH3 defaults...how can I get back to them?

2. I know that "target locking" never existed, in RW, using the periscope or UZO. However, WAC has made it harder to "lock" a target (with the periscope only, AFAICT) and this has a nasty side affect...due to SH3 tying the "lock" to the map display. Targets you can plainly see in the 'scope will NOT show up on the map. They will continue to not show up until you can "lock" them. This is some more SH3 stupidity and I realize it's none of your doing. BUT...

I would like to be able to have plainly visible vessels show up on my map...regardless of the ability to "lock" them...how do I go back to the SH3 defaults?

3. I would like to go back to the SH3 default "water density", for underwater viewing, and the 8 km. "view area", for my slower computer. You mentioned that replacing the "Scene.dat" file with the SH3 original may cause a black sky. That is exactly what happened. Is there a way to get back to the original SH3 water densities and view areas...without this "black sky"?

I hope you realize that I'm happy, overall, with this "Supermod". There are just certain things which do not work for me and I would like to change them, if I can.

SH3 Commander is 100% compatible with WAC "out of the box". The only limitation is that you can't use SH3Cmdr to start careers in August 1939 (and this is only because doing so will make SH3Cmdr incompatible with stock SH3 and other mods that don't support August 1939 start dates - catch 22).

Here is a S79 "Sparviero" flying on La Spezia, really cool. In general the textures are very accurate and the stormy Med is awesome. Also the Med Campaign is very attractive. WAC is definitely my preferred supermod. Sorry for showing planes only, but I'm a vintage planes fan.

Hey, HanSolo...thank you. I thought that you might have been pissed with my requests... but you were not and were very helpful!

I just wish we could ALL know where to make SH3 "adjustements"...??? Why it seems to be restricted to the "modders" is beyond me...we can ALL be modders given the correct info??

BUT, hey...I'm pretty happy with it now. I WOULD like to know how to adjust weapon loading times and the silly "target lock". Why I need a "target lock" for a plainly viewable ship to show up on the map is beyond me!!!

I'm WACing it now, HanSolo...I still have questions but it's the best SH3 has ever been!

I have a question for HanSolo78.

I have installed WAC 2.0, 2.15 and 2.15 hotfix on my sh3, through JSGME . I have also installed GWX.

When I try to start sh3 in career, the game freezes/CTD when it is 10% left to load. I want to know why this happends. Is it because WAC and GWX cant work together? Or is it something else?

Therfore I wonder if it is possible to run GWX and WAC together? and if it can, why does the game crash? And if SH3 crash because WAC and GWX cant work together, do I have to have one SH3 for GWX, and one for WAC?

Every help will be very appriciaited!

Yes that is right, you have to have one SH3 for each supermodand if you are not an Hardcore-Kaleun you will love WAC.

Ok the new question is maybe hard to answer, maybe because all people have different meanings...

Anyway: What is really the difference between GWX and WAC? I know theres maybe a lot, and its hard to tell it without being complicated, but say at least the main differences and such. I would be really glad for that, since I'm wondering if GWX is so good that its worth having one SH3 for GWX and another SH3 just for WAC;)

I like GWX, but it is very boring for me and it is not so much "hardcore" in my opinion: every GWX patrol has a lot of convoys that you can individuate very easily. The GWX AI is good, but not the realism of the campaign. The people like to see battleships, airplanes, battles on the sea and in the sky: with WAC you can get this, and not to stay alone in the ocean fronting the convoy "as usual".
But the WAC Ai is not so easy!
Also if you install GWX you are not allowed to alternate other supermods, now I have NYGM and WAC in my SH3 mod folder and I can play different campaigns following several flavours.

Like you said, in GWX you are too much alone. Not very much happening in GWX, except for convoys ;)
And Since you said that WAC has a lot more events, action, battles etc. Which suits me much more then being a lone wolf all the time, I wil defiently play WAC as my favourite mod!:up:

FYI there's a program called SH3multi out there designed to let you have more then one install. I don't use that app but you could ask about it in the General forum Im sure someone familiar with it would tell you more about it.
Having said that I never realy found it that big of a deal to uninstall all the jazz and to a fresh install to try another mod. Also I prefer WAC, btw those bomber patrol aircraft - forget about it. Hit the throttle and Dive! They will blast your jazz.

You are obviously correct in saying that submarines are capable of both negative and positive buoyancy.... otherwise they would not be able to dive or surface respectively.

However, it is unrealistic to have one mod model only positive and the other only negative, although it seems this is dictated by shortcomings in the SH3 engine.

Whether or not you find WAC's approach of neutral buoyancy acceptable would I suppose, depend on how you play the game.

If you also want to act the part of the Chief Engineer and constantly supervise the depth keeping and order changes when necessary you may find the NYGM or GWX approach better.

On the other hand, if you play as the skipper, and expect an ordered depth to be maintained without further personal intervention, you will find WAC's solution much less of a PITA. I know I do :D

I can say it because there is enough mircomanagment in the game. Indeed the real boats had all types of issues including trim. This is a game. When I order to maintain the boat depth I expect that to hold. But now, I have to make edit upon edit OR my boat's conning tower gets detected because the boat refuses to hold periscope depth. OR while at 1-2 knots running deep the boat continues to dive slowly, OR while I "order" to maintain depth the boat takes on a slow rise instead. I can say that because I remember the boyancy issue in nygm and an earlier version of gwx. I can say it because I have also experienced boyancy issues in the current version of WAC. A problem I must say I am not to happy about. Not at all.
So now I have to fight with edit upon edit to try and get things back to how I want to play the game. Because apparently back down the road it was decided that neutral boyancy is just not friggin good enough, so lets make it near impossible to hold trim for everyone. How friggin convenient.

After reading this thread, I became more and more interested in this mod and finally decided to give it a try.

Unluckily, when I extracted the second part of the download, twice I received the following message:" CRC failed in Sound\Speech_En\8\ChE_K_WeŽre_taking_damage_sir.og g . The file is corrupt".

Since I could not find the file in the decompressed folders, I would like to know if I could go on with the installation or if you provide me a clean copy of the file.

Also, I could not download the hotfix for v 2.15.

It seems that both of us downloaded it from the same site. May be you are right. If the corrupted file does not apper, the original one will remain in place. Sadly, the "weŽre taking damage, sir" is a file that appears lots of times during the game (mostly in later war years).

Anyway, how did you proceed with the unpackers that came in the second part of the download? I am a little confussed and I do not want to screw it up.

I have 92% hull integrity due to my failure to dodge a few bombers. Now, for some reason, with this 92% I can't stay at periscope depth while at 1/3 or stop? This seems to be overkill, to me? I can't believe that pumps, which are undamaged, would not allow me to maintain periscope depth even with 92% integrity??

Perhaps someone who knows better can elaborate?

but I can't find how to extract the files. 7zFM refuses to recognise them as fa format which it can handle. what do I need to do, please?

Download 7-zip from this site: http://www.7-zip.org/

Then when you have installed it, right-click the first WAC file (the .001 file), chose 7-zip and press extract here OR you may extract it in the MODS folder.

The 7-zip program wil automaticly extract all three WAC 2.0 files into one WAC 2.0 folder, which you just put in the MODS folder in SH3 if you haven't extracted to the folder directly.

After the folder has been created and placed in the MODS folder, use the JSGME mod enabler to enable it in SH3.

If you don't have JSGME mod enabler, get it from here: http://www.beerymod.com/jsgme.zip

The three files I downloaded are:

002 & 003 ( with the underlined spaces ) are not recognised as a valid format by 7-Zip ( which I have freshly downloaded and re-installed)

The 001 file will extract, but all I get is a single file, exactly the same size as the 001 file called:

WarAceCampaign 2.0 FULL.7z which 7-zip will not recognise as a valid format

Any ideas?......................Hang on! I'm being a bit of an idiot. I downloaded the 001 file from one source and the other two from the mirrors. The 001 file from the mirror has the underlined spaces like the 002 and 003. I'll d/l the first file from the mirror and try that! It could be that I need all three files from the same source???

prowler; I have experienced similar issues. Hopefully hans will iron that out. I have also had to edit the sub config to counter positive boyancy while at periscope depth. Not to happy about that deal either.

I am sorry to say that a manual is currently in the works... but cause of real life business all got a full stop.
An update might only possible in summer...

Could I please ask how to improve resolution ( I'm running on a Dell Inspiron XPS M1710; Windows Vista Home Premium; Intel Core2 T7600 CPU @ 2.33 GHz; 2 Gig of RAM; NVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX graphics card (512 Mb). and the screen will run up to 1900 x 1200)

I know the two d3d9 files have something to do with it, but I'm not sure how to use them.

Also, How do I use the terrain modifications, please? I know I have to run the unpacker files, but where do I put the files?

You don't have to put the files anywhere. As you run each of the unpackers in turn they will auto install to the file you have pointed them to ( data/Terrain/Data )

to change resolution just open the d3d.cfg file with an editor and change the lines: "resx" and "resy" rexx means witdh and resy means height!


EDIT: just recognized.. youŽve got vista... vista is bad for playing SH3! The resolution fix does not work with Windows Vista! IŽm sorry!!

No need to apologise. The shortcomings of Windows Vista can't be laid at your door. As a point of interest, I suffered the "failure" when ending a WAC session and changed the two sound files as suggested. The game would not even start!

I reverted to full 2.15 because I was quite happy with the slight inconvenience of the fault, BUT when I started to use SH3 Commander with WAC, the problem disappeared. This may be a Vista thing, but it seems that, for me, SH3 Commander cures the problem.

Thanks once again for an incredible mod. I started with SH3 and graduated to GWX. I've only just started with NYGM and WAC, so I'm not in a position to do an objective comparison, but from what I've seen so far, WAC is way ahead of the rest. For me it combines the required amount of realism with stunning gameplay. I'm in awe that you seem to have done it alone. The others had extensive teams working on them.

Has anyone figured out what, in WAC, changed my ability to "lock" targets in periscope? The UZO is not affected and can still "LOCK" targets at very far range. I say WAC as I don't remember targets being so difficult to lock in periscope view in a straight SH3 installation?

I don't like the "LOCK" at all...but it's the only way to get targets, which are plainly visable, to show up on my chart. If they won't "LOCK", they won't stay on the chart (map)...no matter how well I can see them in the periscope.

The perfect answer would be to "unhook" the lock from the target showing up on the map (chart). If I can see it using any sight based device (eyes, binoculars, UZO or periscope) then it should show up on my map. This is how I believe it would have REALLY worked? I'm not sure which officer would be responsible (NO,WO) but someone would have been recording bearing and range information to a visable target on a chart, I would assume.

I realize this is a fundamental flaw in SH3...but WAC just makes it worse by making the target lock more difficult (no offense, Hans! It's not your fault!). I would like to suggest something, however. Make the target locking ability even easier...if I can see it I can lock it! Those of us who believe in reality will ignore the target lock...BUT...the visable targets will show up on our maps, as they should.

What do the rest of you think?

Yeah, I also have problems locking the ragets, even though they are clearly visble in the UZO, Periscope, binoculars etc.

So I would agree to prowler3's suggestion to make the locking as easy as possible, making it possible to lock it whenever you can see it and then stay locked and the ship gets plotted on map...instead of continuesly locking it because it wont be locked by itself:damn: (No offense, Hans! Its not yor fault, its the SH3 itself)

So I think its a great idea!:up:

Yes this is true. If you download them from different sources, from say 2 differend uploaders, you may be missing files.

I am uploading WAC 2.0 Light right now, I will upload WAC 2.0 Full next. They will be in WinRaR zip format for those who have problems with 7z.

I finally got around to it, but here is WAC 2.15 Light at my FileFront account.

I have installed WarAceCampaign V2.0 together with 'BlackSkyFix' through JSGME. I have also installed the Helgoland and KW canal files as instructed in the 'read me'. Is there any advantage in downloading the WarAceCampaign V2.15 Light, if so can I use JSGME and simply install this version over V2.0 or must I first of all uninstall the V2.0 :-?
Have just had a look at the 'new' website and I think that with all the improvements I will try 2.15. Question still stands for overinstalling !

Yeah, I also have a similar question: Which Mod should I chose?

the LIGHT or the FULL?

Why I ask this is because My pc is just over the FULL recomendations at Hans' site....and wonder if its best to chose the LIGHT...because I dont care about graphic updates...I want the "stuff" If you now what I mean:cool:

So does LIGHT also have every event and historical things and such included?

Also the full version lags a bit too...

So whats the main difference? and does the light have all the campign thingys included?

Version 2.15 should be installed over 2.0!
2.0 is a must have for 2.15 but you have to choose the apropriate version!
light 2.0 can only update to light 2.15 for example!

the light version only has minor harbour traffic, 8Km atmosphere and fewer graphical changes. events are the same!

btw. next version... might be a 3.0 full... will contain over 40 events (now 20), detailed manual for events, etc. weŽll see ;)

But a long way to go....

O/K, have downloaded and installed 2.15 as per. 'read me'. Before I enabled it with JSGME I 'rolled back', as suggested, all mods except WAC2.0. There was only one mod, that was the 'black sky fix' which I did not reinstall after enabling 2.15. Guess what, ran 2.15 and the sky was black. Could not this problem with the sky not have been sorted for WAC2.15. It seems a great shame that little things crop up which spoilat least at the outset, what I do believe is a wonderfull mod. Will re-enable the sky fix tomorrow and have another go. BTW, thanks a million for a super mod !!

The black sky issue does not occur always to every user!
It is a system config problem.

I was for 15 years, before my retirement, a technical author responsible for Maintenance, Trouble Shooting and Description manuals at Airbus Germany so I could possibly be of help, should you indeed need any. I have completed my spring cleaning of my FileFront page. I need to start paying more attention to it so my WAC uploads stop getting deleted. I now have everything exept WAC 2.15 Full. These are all in WinRaR zip format. Just download each category(WAC 2.0 Light Parts 1-3, WAC 2.0 Light Terrain Repackers, WAC 2.0 Full Sounf Files) and extract them into 1 folder and name it WAC 2.0 Light and place it in JSGME. Then download and exract WAC 2.15 Light Parts 1 & 2 into its own folder and name it WAC 2.15 Light and place it in JSGME also. Enable 2.0 first, then 2.15 after.

This is an known issue. You can solve it with a fix from NYGM-Mod. But if you do so you will loose the reflection of your sub. Thats the problem. I will speak with Han to solve this, not only cosmetic, problem. You will take more damage at your periscope by deptcharges when they are not fully down.

O/K, great. FYI - I returned to base and refitted my boat with a better? conning tower, on this con the periscopes are fully retracted on the bridge but the OBS? one still shows extended when inside the con, it is o/k outside, just funny inside. :huh:

I'm running version 2.15 (Full ) with SH3 Commander. I started a career, sailing out of Wilhelmshaven. Halfway to Scapa I encountered and sank a nice fat ore-carrier. Then saved and exited ( domestic chores beckoned.) Chores done I returned to WAC and loaded my saved game to find my previously plotted course to the Atlantic still intact, BUT:

1. No trace of the ship I had sunk on the chart - I torpedo + deck-gun to finish it off.
2. My U-Boat back in dock at Wilhelmshaven. My plotted course apparently joined my first way-point just South of Scapa in a direct straight line to Wilhelmshaven
3. Absolutely no Harbour traffic ( moored ships etc )

Undeterred I set sail again until I could "join up" with my plotted course ( without having to go overland ). Halfway to Scapa I encountered an enemy merchant. I dived to periscope, changed course to parallel the targets and increased to flank speed to get ahead of it. I then clicked on the "Weapons Officer" icon to organise my tubes before attacking - result Total Freeze. In the end I had to "Hot boot" the entire machine ( something I always hate doing ). I got desktop, but keyboard and mouse remained totally frozen. I had to go through several recovery operations before getting my system back to normal ( albeit with a totally scrambled desktop - all those icons all over the place ).

What I did between the save and reload was to unpack the three terrain files. could that have done it? Even tho' I did Roll back SH3 Commander immediately after I'd exited and saved?

sometimes sinked ships arenŽt recorded... also happens with Sh3 default
the CTD you descibed I have never experienced before and such thing was also never reported.. I think this could be a problem of installation error!
This shouldnŽt happen again!!

Thanks. I think you must be right. Just to be safe I deleted the entire career and started a new one using SH3 Commander. Just finished my second mission with no problems - except that I can't get over how incredibly good WAC is. Thanks again for all your hard work. It's truly appreciated.

That's right AN73 (shallow).
Sunk coastal near estimated intercept. Later dove to avoid detection by DD and passing merchant.
Hydrophone contacts - propeller sounds. Plotted a reverse "S" and swung around behind the single.
Observed 3 columns, two escorts (http://huntny.us/sh3/6_02/19_38.jpg). Ore freighters, cargo steamers, small tankers and a troopship. First logical attack plan - the two small tankers in the forward corner and the troopship in the center column.
But wait - 2nd troopship spotted! Garrrrr :ping:
U-51's position was then at a better AoB for the tankers, but acceptable.
Pair of fish at high speed to pass the 2nd tanker for the 2nd troopship.
2nd pair of fish med speed for the 1st troopship.
Approaching Escort, dive to 20m rig for silent running, adjust course.
The result? Smoke on the water! (http://huntny.us/sh3/6_02/20_32.jpg) 14000+ tonns.
Rear escort seemed clueless as to my position and circled.
Swung the boat around the forward shhip wreckage and headed out at 245.
About 2 hours later a warship on patrol greeted a steamer from the stern tube (http://huntny.us/sh3/6_02/23_13.jpg).
Resumed course for AN52.

I like it, I love it, I want some more of it ;)

Had a lengthy post but then I cut it because Im wondering if your asking about what the manual or Mod wishes to be.

So I'll start by suggesting the manual be available as a seprated d/l so users can look through it that have an interest in WAC. And it should include some of the Mods history befor going into details.

the "manual" is not realy an manual, it is more a deepter touch into history. For Kaleuns who want to know more about the historical backround of the events ,took place in campain. We will not include any "game history" of included mods, and it will not be seperatly downloadable because it is included in WAC 3.0.

Well ok then but I think that would be a mistake.
Consider the amount of players interested in the Mod but want to read about it first before downloading a gig to look at it. A manual even with basic details added to what you have in mind would be to WAC's benifit. As of now Im pointing people to the revision history html and screenshot pages. Even if it is not a manual but a guide to the events it should still IMO be available sepreratly perhaps as pdf.

It should also instruct/help make the 'repacking' of the extra's folders easy to understand. I think some get confused as to why this is nessesary.

To clear some things up... the manual will have a short summary of the intention but without getting too detailed!
Because all addition and mods that are contained are still on my history version page.
A detailed description will also be in the manual, as posted some weeks ago!

To get some ideas what should be in the introduction of the manual that describes the WAC mod... what should be in there? what do you think?

1) I would like to see the buoyancy issue at silent speed under 3knots back to stock value.
I am having to edit the sub's cfg periscope depth to compensate.

2) Any way of preventing a sunk ship from reappearing on a save? Or at least untill the next patrol?
Example: I have sunk a cruiser / capitol ship in a task-force. Returned to the save and the ship is back with the task force yet the log shows the kill/tonnage.
2a) Durring the Bismark scenerio the Hood is unsunk and shown after the battle with another battleship.

3) While Im not a fan of using Kiel canal, if there was some sort of auto-map for it it wouldn't be a pain.

4) IMO: scrap the light version. Instead an option to reduce the fire/smoke effects and perhaps slightly lighter harbour traffic (for those of us with AGP or older graphic cards) without taking away anything else from the mod.

5) Uniform the downloads. None of the mirrors are the same. I'd like to continue a mirror so players don't jump through pop-ups, advertisements or porn for the files. Once 3.0 is ready maybe hans could make rar's instead of 7z.

That's enough for now, I'm sure to have forgotten something but these are just wishes.

Of course there will be a lot more "stuff", as in the teaser.
Your question about "leaving to get involved" is quite interesting. I do not know if it is possible. You can edit the days in port but that does not ensure that you have enough time to get close to action. I will talk with Han about this problem.

1. might be possible but then there could be the problem of fast sinking with water leakage

2. unfortunately not possible due to SH engine

4. no good idea because harbour traffic stresses CPU&Ram; smoke only graphic cards

5. good idea BUT.. no rar format possible because of low compression!! would be 2Gb download.. not acceptable!

1. Ok, I've gotten used to the 13.5 edit n/p.
2. Bummer.
2a. I dug up the old screens, unfortunatly I didn't mark the map but here is what I remember and have; The Hood was sailing with the Prince of Wales on a W/N/W heading oviously back to Britan. I can't remember if it was in the western aproaches or farther north, sorry. But it was shortly after (about) May 26, `41.
If you would like to see the screens let me know.
3. Cool.
4. The suggestion was more because the smoke kills my card - frame rate. Perhaps then somehow to take out the extra smoke effects for us older card players?
On a side note alot of peoole have asked me about the "light version". I don't know what is does not have compared to the full so I can't help answer. When I first decided to install WAC I didn't want to miss out on anything so I downloaded the full version. I'm thinking many people who want to try the mod might think the same. Perhaps if on your site you could say what it excludes or leaves out compared to the full version I could mirror the info.
5. Speaking of mirrors, I'll see what I can do about 7z files on the other server in the future. And of course mention what to use to uncompress the files with proper instr.

edit; Seem to have straightened out the 7z problem on the other host. If the next WAC release will be a few months I'll see about uploading the current 2.0 original files for the mirror.

and changed the position of the mast on the Gneisenau right after the funnel!

HanSolo...I realize how hard you work at this but I would like to know if you are still looking into or considering the changes I suggested regarding the "target lock"?

"If a target is viewable in a device (Periscope, UZO, Binoculars or M1-A1 eyeball) it should remain on the map WITHOUT having to be "lockable". If I can SEE it, it gets charted on, and STAYS on, the map...regardless of the targets "lockability"".

I have mentioned this before, and some have replied positively to this "SH3"..."inconsistency"?

I realize this is most likely an SH3 problem and one that cannot be easily reconciled? In which case I say the easiest "fix" is to put the "target lock" ability back to SH3 default levels, or even higher, and allow us to use our honesty and desire for reality to dictate when we push the "LOCK" button?

I, for one, will NOT be pushing the "LOCK" button at 12,000 m !!! BUT...if I can see the smoke from that C2's stack...it should stay on the map?

Just my thoughts, commented on by a few others, on how to fix this inconsistency. No...it is NOT your (WAC) error! YOU did not tie mapping of targets to target "lockability"...SH3 did. You can only work around SH3's limits.

I am just trying to suggest a possible fix, with your fan's honesty and desire to "simulate reality" as your guide? Yes, some will lock a target at first site of smoke...we can't worry or care about "those people"...they are not the WAC afficianado's that you spend all this time on? WE are!! :up: We are the one's who will not "cheat" at every opportunity but will make things as real as possible in our own SH3 campaigns.

I hope you understand the issue I am trying to tell you about. It is the last hurdle I have run across in WAC to make it the BEST MOD for SH3...and it already is that!

Thanks for all your time and effort HanSolo...it's a rare quality to find someone who is both dedicated to running a sim AND improving it, as you have. I realize you have used the work of others, combined with your own...we all know what a "Supermod" is! LOL! It still takes a lot of time and effort to put it all together...so that it works!! :up:

They are both into the mod (otherwise Operation Cerberus (Channel Dash)would be a little bit tricky;) ), but not in this Version. Both the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau got both the right 28mm turrets (not the now used british turrets) and some cosmetic features like the mast-position .

I know there is discussion around 3.0 in the works, but for current 2.15 players - don't miss out on the War Ace Norway Operations !! Outstanding :up:

We got Task forces, Convoys, AI-subs, friendly and enemy, converging convoys in ports near Trondhiem, air patrols where the Luftwaffe coordinate attacks, I even had them bomb an S-class snooping around I detected. We got landing ships, troopships, tankers, capitol ships, aux cruisers and more.

Sail back to Kiel? I don't think so, back to Trondhiem and Im going to hang around & patrol the Norway coast for now:arrgh!:

I do not think so. None of the supermods is mixable with an other supermod. If you love the campain, and you will do so if you tried, you have to come to WAC:up: :lol:

I need to know what sound file is used when the boat is at critical depth.
The sound has bolts bursting - breaking off and someone says something in German.

Version 2.15 should be installed over 2.0!
2.0 is a must have for 2.15 but you have to choose the apropriate version!
light 2.0 can only update to light 2.15 for example!

the light version only has minor harbour traffic, 8Km atmosphere and fewer graphical changes. events are the same!

btw. next version... might be a 3.0 full... will contain over 40 events (now 20), detailed manual for events, etc. weŽll see ;)

But a long way to go....

I will do some personal research on the 8km / 16km differences but I'm wondering by fewer graphical changes does that mean just less smoke & fire affects or what else?

I have tried a few different smoke mods and found "DowlysNewSmoke[Non-edited]" to my taste, it also does not seem to crank on my video card as much! As a result I can once again enjoy much of the close up fireworks (http://huntny.us/sh3/7_03/21_453.jpg).

Back to the 'wish list' in a way, this is a few things I've noticed playing April - May '40 (Norway Ops). Never a boring patrol btw; outstanding actions :up: Three patrols out of Trodhiem and each over 50k!

When you Start a patrol in Trondhiem there is a stationary enemy merchant in the harbour. The shore guns and nearby warships imediatly start to blast it (http://huntny.us/sh3/7_03/7_734.jpg). It does add a sence of war but I dunno if it is supposta be there. Also a Norwegian flaged Hospital ship goes through the channel (scripted?) and even if you submerge and let it pass it gets blasted and sunk by the land units.

Not sure if I mentioned this before and I dunno if it can be fixed - something is odd with the S-class subs. They fight back if you attack them (http://huntny.us/sh3/7_03/48_921.jpg) alright, but score zero (0) tonnage (http://huntny.us/sh3/7_03/16_437.jpg) and disapear from the screen. In other words the marked kill does not show (http://huntny.us/sh3/7_03/36_828.jpg). Before I exit the patrol I edit the log file for about 950 tonns each but that is just weird.

And last but not least; the damage control, or flooding control seems a bit heavy (http://huntny.us/sh3/7_03/45_375.jpg).
Even with minor damage and with compartments filled, repair qualified men, the flooding seems to quickly remain out of control and your boat sinks - done. Sometimes you can set speed at 2/3 to maintain depth but of course then your not in silent running and the escorts blast you again. So I'm not sure how the new damage system is working, the crew, you would think, should address the flooding first but seem to be off doing other repair? Or it seems like the flooding recovery time is always getting worse and even with full crew they can't handle it.
Thoughts on this? Can it be tweeked a bit perhaps, or is there an edit.

the issue with the british sub is known. The problem ist that SH3 is not able to realise a sunk enemy sub with tonnage. We hope to solve this problem, maybe someone of the gwx-team has a good idea about, because the will release a lot of subs in 1.4 and should have the same problem.
Your smoke ist for my taste "to grey" imo smoke has to be heavy black.:yep:

At some point in WAC 2.15, BDU allows the use of the English Channel. Before that date BDU does not allow traversing the EC due to minning. Does anybody remember the date when using the EC is allowed by BDU? I'm wondering if I missed the message from BDU stating that I can traverse the EC? I'm patrolling in January, 1940 at present.

After reading this thread, I decided to give your mod a try.

In a few words: OUTSTANDING!!!:up:

However, there are some suggestions I would like to make.

Crew fatigue: WAC should incorporate a more realistic model, in order to avoid micromanagement and improve gaming experience. Is there a SH3 commander fatigue model that best suits your mod?

Crew configutation: basically, it is the same stock crew. I am also a big fan of NYGM 2.5 and sail with a type II boat. The number of petty officers should be increased to 10 instead of the original nine and the engine positions should be reduced to five as it is in NYGM 2.5. In this way, the operational efficiency of the boat will be greatly increased, and the sonar/radio station will be covered at all times.

Keep this mod up. I think it is great and I will recommend it whenever I coud, despite I only sailed for five hours.

Urdhuk, glad your enjoying the mod! I just finished a nice 130k patrol in a VIIB. Norway Ops May-June 40`. HMS Renown in the list!

Hans - A6; I have spotted an error I belive in when 1st Flotilla moves to Brest.
I have a VIIB outside of Norway and when June 1st hit I got the Message the base was moved to Brest (http://mysh3.info/danurve/7_09/59_453.jpg), the date is June 1., 1940 (http://mysh3.info/danurve/7_09/58_984.jpg). The correct date for the flotilla move is June 1941 (http://uboat.net/flotillas/1flo.htm) I thought. Or 8/40?
If that needs to be corrected, what file contains the edit untill the next release?

Another minor thing that might need attention, I docked the boat in Mosjoen, (N/E of Trondheim) to simulate a resupply. This port has no docks, and so I don't think a boat would normally use this port, - but if you do when you start the next patrol the U-boat is partly stuck on the shore (http://mysh3.info/danurve/7_09/44_750.jpg). Ahead full frees it but you wind up with some minor repairable damage.

date of base change is located in messages.txt in the campaign folder for the radio messages. or the actual date for base change is located in flotilla.cfg in cfg folder!
I know that the radio messages donŽt match with the selected base changing times.
Whether the base changing time will be changed or the radio messages in 3.0 !
The thing with the stuck u-boat is not possible to change because of the missing dock... IŽm sorry!

Well I have gotten a boat in and around Dunkirk late May `40 to check out the event.
Neat stuff even though most of the targets are small, this would be historicaly accurate. First run I managed to scrap the lead escort and then take out the trawler. Surfaced and caused a bit of random chaos!
Wasn't long before the RAF showed up though.
Sometimes I think my deck gunners sniffed a few to many diesel fumes.

With 3 pages of log entries near 60k tons I slipped away to Helgoland and returned to the event at high speed thinking this is a cake walk. Where once again a few RAF bombers and an angry DE with a pair of corvettes provided an attitude adjustment. Got a chance to watch a few AI engagements, exchange gunfire etc.
Going back for more..:|\\

Just a note depending on what kind of balls your machine has, be carefull using any T/C in the area of Dunkirk.

I'm glad you liked some ideas taken from NYGM related to crew composition and fatigue models (at least for my favored Type II boat). I hope you can implement them easily.

There is another feature I saw in NYGM mod you should consider. This mod introduced changes in the in the speed and maximun range atainable. The most efficient speed is now ahed standard. I think this is very realistic.

I'm sorry I didn't wrote to you earlier, but my system was destroyed by a virus and I am still recovering and trying a new video card. It is a GeForce 7900 GS AGP. I hope it could be enough to play your mod smoothly.

Finally, a couple of questions. Are the downloads links still working? Which one would you recommend me? Are you going to implement your new version as an upgrade or a stand-alone version?

For A few days I am staying at friends who have broad band....Super....! So I downloaded "WAC lite version" but the "Update 2.0 to Light Version 2.15" is not working! I get a message files does not exist!

The first download works still fine for me.
Otherwise.. if you downloaded the update you have to install 7-zip to extract the update and the activate it via JSME!

I've been reading your site and decided to download WAC - it sounds great. :D One thing though... some parts e.g. "Kiel_Scapa_Suez" come with a file called SH3Repacker.exe and the readme says "Follow the instructions to use SH3Repacker.exe" but there are no instructions... where do I find them?

Just a lil problem, the Konigsberg and a Flottenbegliter on Aug 27 out of Kiel ran aground on the spit of land with the Lighthouse on it as you enter the channel leaving Kiel.:hmm:

Did not see any reports of problems with the Konigsberg so figured I would let you know.

Thanks. :sunny: SH3, besides being a great sim, has lead to learning about many areas of WWII (that was presented in school so dryly I forgot most of it), the WACs being one of them. :know:

That is so true, I never paid attention to WWII History in school. But since I bought SH3, I have gained an interest in it, because now I have something in common with it. Dear Hansolo and others knowing about WAC.

I have not played SH3 for a long time now, but I got interest in it again, and wanted to play WAC. I have installed the FULL version, but I wonder if the FULL version is to challening for my computer...

I mean, it lags pretty much when in the harbour, like 15 to 10 fps, but will it lag as much when the u-boat is out on the sea? Since I wonder if I should have WAC light or FULL, I love the FULL's featrues, but it lags when starting. MY pc has 2 Gig's ram, 4.2 Gig CPU, but a GeForce 7600gt video card, which is the only factor which is below the requirements.

So, will it only lag extra much in the harbour, but ease when on the sea? because I don't want to play WAC full if I only have 10 fps...

Another question. Since I maybe need to have WAC light instead, I have downloaded it, but the v. 2.15 light is not available to download on your mirror!
Can I just skip the 2.15 and jump right to 2.15 hotfix? If not, where can I get 2.15?

Answer will be very appreciated!

Stuntman 2.15 light is available off mysh3.info/WAC mirror.

To my knowledge WarAce light has 8k not 16 k and lighter harbour traffic, all the events & jazz included as in Full. It may solve your fps, WarAce is still intense on graphics. Once your boat is out of the harbours fps is better.
The specs on your pc seem ok except if your video card isn't as you say there may be some things you can do. Make sure your event cam is off. In the video settings for sh3 lower your particle density to 50%. Make sure your card-driver settings are up to date. You can install the stock ocean-floor mod, how often do you use the external view to watch the ocean floor anyway? Also the files for WarAce smoke effects are heavy on video cards, you could try the new SH4 effects for SH3 mods (beta) by racerboy, intense effects but belive it or not not as much of a card drain. Btw; I use an older but not ancient 256 AGP card. Or the Oblivion smoke is good to.

edit Don't skip and just install the hotfix. Hotfix is a 'fix' that prevents CTD from the update / sound.

When I was playing sh4, i remember there was two starting options: outside or inside the harbour...this could be a solution for the players that wants full experiences avoiding FPS pains;)

Thank you, danurve! It really helps! I will use stock seafloor, and the beta smoke, and 50% particle density. But where can I get the smoke mod and stock floor mod? If you can be so kind to give me a link, please?:lol:

Btw, what is the "synchronize" in the options screen? what does it do? will I get better FPS if I toggle it off?

And I hope I still can use FULL after these good tips.
