Great job.:up: A lot of the Japanese merchants in SHIV can easily represent Western merchants, including all of the ones which have been posted here. But there are some more which would make good conversions as well; are you planning on reskinning and posting those as well?:hmm:

So if you got any other converted Merchant from SH4, bring it to me and i will make some Skins for them.

Iam a Newbie in 3D-working so iam not the man who can build new Ships but i got nice Ideas.
Is it possible to use the high detailed Bridgehouses from SH4 ships for some new cloned SH3 Ships ?
For example :
Can you replace the Bridgehouse from the Empire Celt Tanker with the one of the Split Cargo Hakusika ?
If this is possible we got very fast nice lookin ships like iambecomelife´s "Merchant-Fleet-Mod".

You can use this Ships in GWX 1.03, thats no problem.
The most of them are JSMG-compatible.
The only thing you have to do is to replace the Original-Skins in the Unitfolder with my Skins until you activate them with JSMG.

Hmm u are using GWX1.03 arent you ?
I can make an Package for you for easy installing those units to GWX 1.03 !
It will take one hour for me to work it out for the Community.
Only Thing you have to do is to put the Mod into the Mod Folder and activate it with the JSMG Modenabler !

I have tested it with my GWX-Installation and it seems that all is working fine.
Well, it must work in GWX cause it works in my Modpack 2007.
I havent forget nothing. The Germannames.cfg and Englishnames.cfg is already overworked.
The only thing you have to do is to copy the extractet File into your Modfolder of your GWX-Installation and enable the Mod with JSMG.
Watch out, the Germannames.cfg and the Englishnames.cfg are from GWX1.03 so this Mod only will work without mistakes on a GWX1.03 Version.
For using this Mod in other GWX-Version you have to create the Cfg´s by your own.
I hope you enjoy this Mod.

Yes, most of them have been included in GWX, including some that haven't been released as single downloads.:know: In fact, of all the ones I have released, only the Proteus and Chatham Hospital Ship are not currently in GWX. Plus, the NKBL and NKCA are available in GWX only (although old WIP pictures are available further back in this thread) and I built the Garibaldi and Brooklyn CLs with help from Ref. As for ships in GWX 1.04, you will have to wait and see.:cool:

Yes, actually.:o It is quite easy too - I exported the .obj files from the .dat of the Hiryu quite easily, since there are enough similarities for Pack3d to work in that regard, and since objects are obviously in the same format (.obj). The only major issues would be completely different UV Mapping and the fact that Ubisoft may not appeciate it.:-? The extra poly count should not make any difference, since it would not be significant in amount and SHIV ships have already been shown to work fine with SHIII's graphics engine.

Nice Job MadMax (although FYI there's no propaganda involved w/my mod - everything that I posted in the last update will be released).;) Those skins are exactly what you would have encountered in the Atlantic especially between 1939-1940, when many British cargo vessels were (unwisely) still in non-camoflage paint schemes.
I had been wondering how skinning would work for the SH4 vessels and it's good to see that the necessary files are easily accessible. Do you know if you can add letters and numbers to the hull or would they repeat? I was unable to get text to work on most of the stock SH3 ships.

To your Question:
It´s not possible to add Letters to the Mainhull cause they would repeat.
Only a Letter ore a Sign can be added to the Muffler.

you can combine this mod with every other mod by overworking the configs !
Spawnprobability will be like normal SH3 Ships.

Unfortunately, the style of the *.sil files is not the "standard" GWX style. Hopefully,someone more talented than me can create some modified *.sil files. Anyway, great work and thanks again.

I wouldn't mind seeing new sailing vessels myself, especially a trawler or cargo ship with combined sail/steam power.

Your best bet may be to alter the hull of an existing ship
Import your new sails etc to replace deck objects of that existing model
Importing a complete new model is difficult at best

Great work Boris.:up: I don't think the lack of a 20 degree angle will really hurt anyway, as the other three are ample for proper recognition. This is particularly true if you study (and mod) the merchants in the Museum on a daily basis...:cool:

EDIT: Sorry, I made a mistake. The original draft for the Biyo and the Haruna are Ok. Only the Nippon and Hakusika are wrong.
Hi,
I have played around a little bit with the SH4 ships from MadMax and found out that some ships have the wrong draft. I tried to sink them with the magnetic pistol (I used draft+1m), but the torpedo was too shallow and hit the ship directly/bounced off.
I found out the following more correct drafts and changed the values in the corresponding *.cfg and *.txt files:
new value original value
OLNippon 9.0 7.5
KLSSHakusika 8.5 7.5
The new draft values are not 100% correct because I don't know how to find out the exact draft. However, if you add 1m to them the magnetic pistol will work. If someone knows how to obtain the exact draft I would be very happy to know it.

iam just working on a SH4Warshippack for GWX1.03 which includes 6 Warships and one Merchant.
It is already finished but my problem are the Sil.files from these ships.
Boris from GWX-Team converted the Sil.files from my last Merchantpack for GWX to original SH3-Style and now i wanne ask him to do this until i release the Mod.
It would be much more comfortable for al users if the Modpack already contents the right Sil-files .
Is it possible for you to make this Boris ?

It aint just skins, its a whole bunch of new ships... pretty much the longest most anticipated mod for SH3. It's beginning to look something like Duke Nukem forever :rotfl:

I decided to try making a warship for a change to get some experience. Here's a "Perth" class cruiser in a rough early war skin. ATM I'm trying to find more information on minor structural features so that the superstructure, etc is improved. This will be available very soon, separate from the freighters and tankers I've made. The parent unit is a "Dido", with the Tribal's bridge and several parts from the "King George V" and T-2 tanker.

It's sad to read about what happened to this class. "HMAS Hobart" was the only one to survive WWII. "Sydney" was lost with all hands, and "Perth" had most of her crew KIA when she was sunk; afterwards hundreds of the survivors died in Japanese POW camps...

No - this is anything but dead. Right now I have enough spare time to work on it so I am spending hours on end skinning (about 50 skins a day). I am also researching ship paint schemes and fixing various problems with the 3d models - several more existing ships have gotten complete makeovers. As of today the paint schemes for 1939-early 1942 are about 60 - 66% complete. The late war skins (1942-1945)will take less time since they do not require complicated logos and hull markings.

Which unit was that for? I tested the small tramp steamer and found that I could get a maximum of about 12-14 skins before they would repeat - I forget exactly how many but based on that I have been making no more than 12 skins per ship.
Also, do you know if he figured out why the game always displays skins in a certain sequence? You might have noticed that you will always see the same skin on the first liberty ship you encounter, another particular skin on the second - in other words the same sequence of ships will appear on every patrol. This was a very annoying quirk and it would be nice if it could be fixed so that we didn't need to use randomization programs like SH3 Commander and my MVP Skin Randomizer to get around it...

Sydney is on hold due to the Merchant Fleet Mod. I would like to release it with one or two other warships in the next several months. Someone was nice enough to send me a beautiful profile drawing of this ship class, and I want to use it to correct some inaccuracies with the model. Sergbuto has not released the Furious for similar reasons - he was concerned about the modeling accuracy (although it looked excellent IMO).

I have a few further questions concerning modding. If I want to change the armament from, say, two quadruple torpedo tube mounts to two triple mounts (or delete the mounts altogether), is it enough to alter the .eqp file or do I have to alter other files as well? And if I modify the tube mounts in any way (deleting the domed housing for the layer/trainer) does this mean creating a separate file for a new set of tubes which has to be incorporated into the guns.dat file? Ditto for modified single 4.7-inch gun shields.
As I'm waiting for drawings of the Dutch "Admiralen" class destroyers (from the RNethN's Historical Branch, delivery time 3-4 weeks) I have started to modify SH4's "Clemson" class destroyer to represent IJN Patrol Boat 102 (ex-USS "Stewart"). One of the alterations is a reduction of top speed to 25 knots. Is it sufficient to alter the entry in the .cfg file or, again, must other files be altered?

Could you just equip it with British heavy calibre weapons from the SH3 weapons roster? You can't notice the calibre difference from a distance, and a battleship shell will do massive damage regardless of if it's 14 or 16 inches, so most people won't mind. I think someone put German guns as stand-ins for the triple 8" turrets for the SH3 version of the "Northampton" class cruiser, so I guess it should work.

The Pennsylvania had triple 14" turrets and unless I'm mistaken they do not exist in SH3-the nearest equivalents would be the German triple 11" turrets used for the Panzerschiffe and Scharnhorst. Somehow I don't think Pennsylvania would look right with them.
If somebody can point me to the locations for the relevant files in SH4 I could have a crack at it- unfortunately the files have changed somewhat for SH4 so the file names differ from SH3.

Are there any "detaild" 3-D models out there? What I mean is, I play with GWX mod, and i recently saw in the SH3-Museum that "big" ships like Carriers, Battleships, Cruiser etc. lack of armament. E.g. the Iowa says in the Info Table that it has like 40 x AA-Guns (don´t know the name exactly but you get the picture of what I mean). But they are not there. That is what I mean.

@ UBOAT234 - Warspite would be an excellent choice for a UK capital ship, as she was an icon of the Royal Navy and, of course, could represent the other members of the Queen Elizabeth class.:yep: I think that is one gap in the RN that the community has been waiting to see filled for some time now.:up: As I recall, Chris911 (who built the Ceramic a long time ago) started a Queen Elizabeth kitbash, but when I PM'd him about it a few months after he'd started it, he said he had quit working on it and had deleted it.:cry: But now, maybe we will finally see a QE class BB sail the seas of SHIII.:arrgh!:

A version of HMS Warspite that I just started. It's based on her configuration circa 1942. I am using a modified version of the Nelson's superstructure to represent the modernized tower, but this may be replaced with one kitbashed from smaller deckhouses.

I'm having a crack at teaching myself 3D modelling right now (I'm a graphic designer/printer by trade) with the far-off goal of producing a QE from the Queen Elizabeth/Valiant group complete with 4.5" HA pillboxes and flush, casemate-less gunwales.
Also, a modified version of the Nelson/KGV/Warspite tower structure could be used for Renown. That, with the QEs, would cover all the battleships/cruisers...unless someone wants a crack at doing a scabby old Iron Duke mooching around Scapa Flow :88)
PS-Bear in mind that WS's "Queen Anne's Mansion" looks roughly like this:

You're right. I took a look at a model of the Warspite in her late war configuration, and the area around the bridge seems to have been much flatter than the Nelson's or Rodney's. I will try taking the triangular deckhouse astern and combining it with some other parts to make a new superstructure

There was an Essex class carrier floating around somewhere at one point. I think it could be part of GWX (not sure as I'm going off memory). U.S. Fleet carriers did only a few operation in the atlantic (they did do some in the med), but the majority of fleet carrier ops was in the pacific.

Since VonDos/Uboat234 and iambecomelife are apparently both working on the warspite, wouldn't it be better if they either work together or one of the two groups drop the project?
I have no doubt that either result will be great since both have released fantastic works in the past...but do we really need two warspites?
Maybe a crack at the older carriers like Argus, Eagle, Furious or Courageous would be better. Just my 0.02$

I think that merchant ships should have the priority....yes...battleships are beautiful to see,but we see them quite rarely....The ships that really create the main difference to the gameplay are the most common ones, the merchants, and seeing a lot of different types of them really improves the game.

That definitely is a paradox of naval simulation building - how so many companies spend hours and hours of development time on big-gun warships when it was the merchants that were more common. Just got a chance to see your new ships now Iambecomelife (haven't been around much lately) - I've got to say, these are so detailed, they are just beyond belief.:o:o:o And your warships are looking better than the ones which came stock with the game - I was quite surprised to see the HMS Warspite after all this time (although it was a pleasant surprise, I assure you, since no one else seemed to bother with such a key ship:D).
Also, if you are looking for another non-merchant project, the idea that someone put forward on the last page is a good one - UK pre-war carriers are also sorely lacking in the game right now and I don't think anyone is working on one right now besides Sergbuto and his HMS Furious import. One or two shiuld be sufficient to at least fill in for these carriers, at least more so than the current Illustrious class. Of course, I believe that merchants still take priority, although there is a greater number of them either completed or as WIP's than ever before.
BTW - Serbuto; speaking of the HMS Furious, have you made any progress with completing her? I know you had reservations with the quality of the model, but I think it looked pretty good.

I think that would be best, if Iambecomelife continue merchant mods. So he excellent autor units and can made units from foto. With other side capital ships was few and mainly people wish made capital ships. So I think that Argus or Furious can made any other autor who can not made from foto. And merchant ships was many. As said BBW, for example, in game have not soviet merchant ships total. And abscent merchant ships many many countryes total.

For what it's worth, I'd like to see both versions of the Warspite completed. One idea might be to modify one of them to represent the Valiant/QE group which had different secondary armament (similar turrets were installed on the Illustrious class and the model could use those) and a couple of other minor differences. I just wish I was competent enough to make a go of it. When they do make their appearance, I'd certainly have a crack at placing them in the campaign files. They were very active in the Med and, later, the Far East.
All in all, they were by far the most important class of capital ship the RN had at the opening of war. The King George Vs didn't even begin coming into service until a year or so later. It really is strange that they've not appeared in SH3 until now.
PS - I have a stack of HMS Warspite pictures if anyone needs reference.

uhm:-? :-? :-? the size was nearly the same ( M/V Hannover, Audacity's "dad" was a 11000-ton vessel) but the silhouette was very different! Jap ships have a very distinctive shape, very different from the western counttries ones.

A modern 4,500 ton merchantman that is still "in the shipyard". It will be assigned to several European merchant fleets and to Japan.

i'm working on a shufflewhell steamer, based on the SH4 conversion "Zinbu" (by Molke2005 aka Yamatoforever).
The ship has full functionality - both shufflewheels are revolving in the right direction.

So I want to ask ( altough many others have asked:-? ) How far are you with this excelllent work? I know about beta tests some months ago and I've red about and in ID book for this mod, but still nothing about release time and overall progress.

look on the NYGM 3.0 sticky.
some of IABL's ships have been released for NYGM. It's not the whole fleet. Perhaps 10-12 merchants and tankers.
Some of the ships have been rezoned for NYGM, so I'm not sure how they would sink in GWX. I'm going to load them up today and do some testing.

I am still working on Beta #2 of the mod. Have you downloaded the Arrow Tanker yet? It is an advance release ahead of the main mod. Also, please check out my new thread on the replacement T-2 tanker. I have only one beta tester for it, and I need more volunteers.

Pity that such Gerome's beauties are being made only for SH3. They also deserve to sail in their glory in a better world of SH4. :) Adapting them backwards in terms of occlusion maps is kind of pain in the butt unless some dedicated software helping along the way is available in the future. But as they say, to each (ship) her own. :)

Gerome_73's "Strasbourg" battelship and his "Loire M130" seaplane are released in LSH3 since Version 3.4 (current Version 4.0). You can d/l LSH3 by cklicking on my sig (swiss site, in german) or clicking the following
