So far, Anvart has done the:

Passenger Liner
T3 Tanker
Small Coastal Vessel
Tugboat
Hospital Ship
He has said he will not do any more though.:cry: I am hoping he will change his mind, as a lighted Small Merchant and maybe even a lighted Small Tanker would greatly benefit the community.:yep:

How about using the Liberty Ship as the lightship's parent unit? With a little work you can convert the base of the deckhouse into hull plating. This in turn allows you to have a ship with a name painted on the side (symmetrically, too). As the pics show, many lightships were named for coastal features, nearby obstacles, etc. We could clone lightships so that they would always appear where they were supposed to, based on the name. It would also be possible to just name them "Relief" (designation for any lightship filling in for a permanent one).
That might be a possibility, but I think that the Liberty Ship is a bit to big. I think I will stick with the Tugboat. If I can ever get Wings3d to work again.:nope:

Work is proceeding well on the Lightship - maybe it will be ready for a creenshot tomorrow evening.:hmm: But maybe not - I will not guarantee anything as I have a lot of work to do for law school as well.
I cloned HSL without problems. Now it's PTL.
It is necessary to make LightTGA and to remove unnecessary objects.

I guess this will be the last lighted ship though - of the other ships that are left, most are either military (such as the LST) or wartime-only (such as the Victory and Liberty Freighters). The only two appropriate stock ships left are the Large Cargo and T2, and they have bad UV Mapping.:down: They would still look good lighted, but if you don't have time then that is alright. (Of course, there are also the fishing boats but they aren't too important.) You have done a great job with all the rest of the ships, and I'm sure I speak for others when I say that this work has greatly benefited the community.:up:

WIP Lightship. Still needs a tarp over the stern, and some objects need to be moved. Also, the bow tarp is currently part of the hull, and needs to be made into a separate object - it will take some time but is no problem to do.
Does anyone see any objects here that will cause a physics inconsistency? There are no cranes touching the superstructure but many,many CTDs have made me paranoid...:shifty:

Nice - Can we see a red version? Please? :D The tarpaulin is a very nice touch. I don't see anything that could potentially cause a crash-I'm guessing you should be OK.

I'm almost finished with the old-fashioned, medium sized cargo ship classes for my mod. In the next few weeks I'll try and start doing more modern vessels (late 1930's-early 40's).
Most of these shots are of a test mission I ran to make sure all of the models had a unique hex ID. It didn't crash, so I guess everything is OK.

Can't wait to add them into the game. This will help give the game even more depth and realism. I hope the devs of SHIV are going to let the modders have an eaiser time in adding extra's to the new game.
Just have a look what they can do without an SDK. SHIII would have been only as half as good as what it has become if it wasn't for the work of the great modders here.:up:

I didn't like the way that tanker with the red funnel looked, mainly because of the proportions and the drainage holes amidships from the stock LL model. There are also some other features like more rigging, an awning frame over the bridge, &c. It's now 9,000 GRT, and built on a C-2 hull using the Liberty Ship's DAT file. Like most of the other vessels it needs work on the reflections and internal zones. There are a couple more pics on the "Library of All Ship Models" thread.

We did approuch Ibecomelife about his Merchant Pack to see if he wanted us to included them in GWX. Ibecomelife informed us it was not ready. Since we get the same type of questions - "when will it be out" we fully understand Ibecomelife's position and respect his reply. Sadly however this means that these beaut ships will NOT be included in GWX and as soon as they are released we will have to make them GWX compatable. That may take several weeks to a month to do. So pls when Ibecomelife finaly releases his Merchant Pack, give GWMT the time it need to incorperate the Pack into GWX.

I like the NKGN hull but the lack of deck cargo is inconvenient. The hull is also transparent in places unless you're very careful about how you change the 3d object faces.
I haven't had the breakup bug occur for some time. I think that you need to keep cranes and masts away from where the superstructure on the parent unit used to be (this is just a theory). However, I noticed that there were no more ctd's with the Ross/McKnight class when I moved the rear mast away from the NLL's superstructure location.
I'm not sure I will release that ore carrier, because I'm not satisfied with the way the superstructure looks. However, it will definitely be replaced with several bulk freighters of various sizes.
Don't worry too much about how long it will take, guys-although there are about 30 different ships right now they are all based on a much smaller number of hulls. For instance, one freighter hull is used for about a third of the ships in the mod. This means that the supermod developers will not have to work on the internal zoning of each individual ship when it's almost time for release.

Chris911 guessed right. It is the Greek flagship, the Armoured Cruiser "Georgios Averof", or the "devil ship" as the Turks called it. It saw a lot of action during the Balkan Wars and at the end of WWI.
In WWII, during the invasion of the German army to Greece, it´s crew disobeyed the orders to scuttle the ship and sailed with the remaining Greek fleet (including 5 submarines) to Alexandria under constant air attacks by the Luftwaffe, where they joined the Brittish naval forces. During 1941 and 1942 it was a convoy escort in the Indian Ocean and during 1943 and up until mid 1944 on harbour protection missions, mainly in Port Said.

It is my first 3d work. The ship still needs UVmapping. When I finish it, I will post more, and closer screenshots.

A modern freighter with one accomodation block amidships, instead of a split deckhouse. It's supposed to be representative of several classes built primarily by the Japanese and Norwregians. The hull text appears correctly on both sides. I still need to alter the ventilator placement, move some cargo nodes, and add rigging to the mainmasts. Also, the masts may be a bit small; most ships of this size only had three or four sets of derricks.

Oh, and since this is a request thread, you might want to take a look at the ever-changing wish-list (http://norwegian-operations.blogspot.com/2006/10/new-entities-wish-list_115981053469739736.html) for my NOROP project. It's got everything from pretty essential things to totally unimportant eye-candy. You don't have to release your models exclusively to me, I only care that they get done.
The difficulty, I guess, is getting the damage model of the new vessels to match that of GWX's ships:-??
Also, do you have any screenshots with a closer view?You make it sound as if it's easy to get close to a dreadnaught:p.

My future wife wa hopeing that my Christmas leave would be with her, but after seeing what's coming for Christmas for SHIII, I can here my computer calling....:lol:
Since I have never been able to fix the texture error with the light ship (I received help, but to no avail) I am wondering if I should send the file to Anvart to be lighted anyway (assuming Anvart is still interested in lighting the vessel). The texture error only affects the vessel when she breaks in two, which is not very often as most sinkings appear to be intact in testing. Also, most lightships scripted into a campaign would be neutral anyway and thus wouldn't be sunk, of course.
Does anyone think this would be a good course of action? And Anvart, would you still like to light up this vessel? :hmm:

Yes:up: :up: . Guys, possible suggestion/request on the lighting---Is it possible to light the top "beacons" of the two mast as the ground lighthouses work--if a remember correctly the lens used for them were just smaller versions of their ground counterparts.

I actually based this model on two lightship designs combined to make a generic model - the one you just posted and another picture someone posted for me on the original lightship forum.:yep:
I will upload the vessel and send her to Anvart tomorrow.

When the vessel is lighted, I will release it immediately when Anvart sends it back to me. I hope to kitbash another one or two skins from existing ones and of course, to make a new ID image (which I actually enjoy doing).

Doing a little reading on that now to see what type of light was really used. Found a neat little excerpt that can give you an idea for your next lightship skin-"mini-battleship":lol:

The liner, sister ship to the Titanic, suddenly materialized out of the fog; its towering bow hung poised like the blade of a guillotine, then severed the lightship in two. Seven of the Nantucket’s 11-man crew died in the collision. In response to the tragedy, the British government replaced the Nantucket with a new lightship, one resembling a miniature battleship. Its hull was fashioned from armor plate, enclosing a maze of 43 watertight compartments. Atop its mast was a light visible from almost 50 miles. And, whenever the foghorn would sound, a radio transmitter would automatically broadcast a signal, enabling navigators of oncoming ships to calculate the distance to the lightship"

Boys I would like to thank/congratulate you about all these magnificent ships that you are about to introduce. Just one question: Are these ships possible to be adjusted in other modes, e.g. Warace? And something else: There was an incredible variey of merchants of tonnage between 1000-2000 tons (passenger+cargo). If you have time give them a chance in paraller with the Atlantic Convoy ships (4000-7000) and very small ships that you create right now. Finally the greek Averof type armored cruiser (see previous pages of this thread) would be the ultimate add to the games sea roster together with the soviet MARAT type battleships. Thank you!:up:

It is not finished yet of course - a couple of cranes need to be moved slightly, the lifeboats need to be moved, the hatchcovers need to be adjusted, and an ID image needs to be made. Also, I managed to ruin to UV Mapping of the upper level of the bridge, and thus it may have to be rebuilt.:shifty: Anyway, here is a WIP shot:

It doesn't matter to me - I think we can assign all the ore carriers as a particular class (104? 105?) so that they spawn very rarely. I see you didn't wait for a response anyway - you went ahead and did a great job! :sunny:
I'd still like to see about two more classes of large ore carriers for variety and a handful of small, coastal bulk carriers with the bridge foreward, engines aft configuration...

That's a good idea; we could use some small passenger ships for coastal areas and the English Channel, especially...
I actually was working on passenger/cargo ships this past weekend but the ones I made were fairly large - one of about 9,000 GRT and another one of 10,000-11,000 GRT.

Hi AG124, from what I read--various lens were used--in most cases-it's regular white--the photo below is quoted as a replica of "lightship lens innovation" ---from what year innovation i'm not sure--but shows some versions were blinking.

At smaller brightness light of a beacon will be badly visible from distance approximately 3...5 Km.
Use Pack3D with last date of files 22.10.2005 (10/22/2005) and you will not have problems with my files. Pack3D last version has more mistakes than Pack3D the previous version.

Things are happening up here in my house, and soon I can play SHIII again! I will ofcourse download many things from the SHIII community, but I have one or two questions about all these ships:
1.Are they easy to install?
2.Will they feature in the dynamic campaign?
3.Will they work with the supermods? (Like TGW for example)

@ Biggles - There is no single answer to that question, so I'll try to address it in parts:
- Appearing in stock campaign: Only certain types of vessels will appear in the stock campaign, mostly cargo vessels (type 102), coastal crafts (type 04), and destroyers and escorts. This will depend upon whether or not there are generic entry types in the campaign for particular ship types or particular nations. This collier for example, will appear for all stock nations except Free France and Japan (but never in convoys). Other ships, such as capital warships, will need to be manually scripted into the campaign.
- Actual installation is easy though - the folder of each ship just has to be placed in the Sea directory and a copy of the .cfg has to be placed in the roster nations of your choice. Englishnames.cfg and Germannames.cfg can be edited with notepad to specific a name for each ship type.
- Supermods - Both GW 1.1a and NYGM currently use a different damage file then the stock ships (NYGM) which involves different zoning to simulate flooding rather than the stock loss of HPs. I used to release my merchants with a "NYGM compatible" zone file, which was not actually a NYGM file but one with 2160 HPs (the same number as GW1.1a and NYGM ships). I did this because I thought it would make better compatibility than doing nothing, but a combination of a stock .zon file and 2160 hps just made the ships impossible to sink at all. Anyway, you can use stock .zon files with these two supermods, but the new ships will be much easier to sink than the stock ones. Also, I don't think either of the mods has very many generic entries in their campaigns anyway. I'm not sure about IuB, AOD2.2, or the WarAce Campaign 1.9.

I've tried to find more information on the "Nereus" and "Proteus", but there isn't all that much, even on the 'net. Their loss isn't very surprising; they would have been in their 20's and 30's by the outbreak of WWII, and I think you said earlier that this class of ships wasn't particularly well maintained. Bad weather, bad rust, and a stressed, 30-y/o hull full of heavy ore-NOT a good mix. :-? IIRC there was an important chairperson of a certain company (Canada Steamship Lines?) who died in one of the sinkings.
I once read a really good book on mysterious losses at sea that included a chapter on the Cyclops, Nereus, and Proteus. Of course, I can't remember the author or the title.:damn: But anyway, the author described the condition of their now-forgotton sister ship Jason around 1938 (I think) as she was being prepared to be sent back to the US from the Pacific for scrapping. As she was preparing for the voyage back to the states, one worker stood in the empty hold and, with the hatch opened and the sun shining in, saw that over the years, the iron support beams and braces had all rusted away and were completely gone (the process had apparently been helped by cargoes such as manganese ore).:huh: Thus, only the bare hull held the bow and stern together - and the hull was so rusted, another worker accidently broke a hole in it with a hammer. It took months to get the ship slowly back to the US, and I believe the holds had to be reinforced first. I don't know much about the other two forgotton ones, Neptune and Orion, but the Orion did run aground and break her back a couple of years before scrapping. However, a board of inquiry determined that the damage was from the impact and not from the design.
If the Nereus and Proteus were in the same condition as the Jason, it doesn't seem too far-fetched to assume they sank from stress during mildly heavy weather (there were no storms in the area where they disappeared, but the sea was rougher than usual). Their loss has since been credited to unkown U-Boats, but it is now known that there were actually none in the area at the time.
Back in 1968, a diver by the name of Dean Hawes claimed to have found the wreck of the Cyclops, although when a team returned to the site later, they only found a Greek bulk carrier. Assuming he had been correct, the ship had supposedly broken in two near the stern - the author I mentioned earlier also stated that this would have been the most likely breaking point of her sisters Nereus and Proteus. Ironically, my model will never break in two, unlike just about every other merchant ship in SHIII - due to the fact that the parent NPTR cannot break in two.
BTW - almost completely off-topic, but since were talking about mysteriously lost ships, I heard (about a year ago) that the Marine Sulphur Queen has been located off the coast of Florida.:huh: Haven't heard any updates yet, but it might be a different T2 or one of two Liberty ships lost in WWII (all sunk by U-Boats).

I didnt translate it in english, but you can easily use it for calculating GRT of merchant ships. Just go to the top of the sheet, a little bit to the right and insert the values of length, depth and width an you will get a proposal for GRT (based on statistic method and the original values of 9 (merchant) ships of that time.

If cranes have identical geometry you copy the block type 4 of the first crane and insert into the same *.dat a file in the end. Then you change the identifier of the new block type 4,
coordinates of an arrangement of the second crane and if that is necessary the parent identifier.

The CTD problem had nothing to do with you or your work with the multi-skin .dats. It was being caused by misplaced .obj's, I think, which needed to be removed. No worries.:know: Or did you mean something else?

A long time ago, there was someone here who was trying to kitbash the Brasilian battleship Sao Paulo from the UK Revenge class, but he hasn't posted since.:-? Whoever you are, if you are reading this, are you still proceeding with your work?
Also, a long time ago I saw at least two merchants that no one has mentioned in ages:
- A T1 tanker kitbash, which I may have seen on one of Ubisoft's forums.
- A Dutch motor freighter based on a C3 hull in a Small Merchant's .dat.

Geee thats a good question,I have downloaded so much lately and I can't remember it all. I use many of the latest mods. I love much details of interior and exterior of the subs,but also the water,waves,the moon,the clouds,the rain and even the seafloor is for me very important :oops: !!

Correct many mistakes of visualization. New texture and correction position of flag and cable.
1- Copy the folder: NBB_HoodU234, in folder: SilentHunterIII\sea.
2- Copy the file: BBHoodU234.cfg, in folder: SilentHunterIII\data\Roster\British\Sea
3- With notepad, add in file: EnglishNames.cfg, that it is found in folder: SilentHunterIII\data\Sea, the text contained in the file EnglishNames.cfg, in this folder.

Right now the 3d modeling for the "San Gerardo" class is in progress. These will be the largest tankers in the mod (13,000 GRT). They were very similar to the class that was converted into Whale Factories during the interwar years. I will shrink the hull to make some old fashioned tankers of 6000-8500 tons in order to help balance out this ship's high tonnage.

I'm almost finished with the new 13,000-ton tanker. It has the liberty ship's hull and deckhouses, cranes from Sergbuto's large cargo, masts from his transport (NPTR), a Victory Ship funnel (so the company logo doesn't repeat), and "X"-shaped struts from the T-2 tanker. The tarpaulin frames were made from the Large Cargo's crane parts; I always see these frames on pictures of old ships and couldn't find any SH3 vessels that had them.

Yep. I added those frames to the liners' bridges to make them look more visually interesting. This feature seems to have been common on ships in the East Asian and African trades; without them the bridge would probably be very uncomfortable in the tropics. However they were also placed on transatlantic vessels, too.

Here's one of the smaller tankers to balance out the one above; IMO if you always encountered giant tankers ingame then your patrols would get pretty dull. It's over 100 feet shorter and will weigh maybe 5500 - 6000 tons. I took an old-fashioned cargo ship that I had made and moved the superstructures further apart, narrowed the funnel, and rearranged the rigging.

And in Wolfgang Hirschfelds report about u-109 he writes about a ship loaded with nitroglycerine blowing up in what he described as the fiercest explosion he ever witnessed. In fact the explosion was so strong that the ship simply disappeared with it. He also said U-109 would have been sunk had they fired from a slightly better position. I had hopes that one day we would see this type of instant explosion, as a rare occurence, but it might not be possible.

I modded in larger fires for my installation but I removed them because of unrelated problems with the effects files. It would be simple to re-edit them again and release it (although I've forgotten some of the steps :oops: ).
I still have my install modded to include giant smoke plumes and larger, longer-lasting fireballs. The only thing is that i don't know how to make these effects specific only to tankers. They look a bit misplaced on, say, a tramp steamer that was supposedly carrying general cargo. Even the provision for separate cargoes (Fuel, Ammo, Freight) does not always prevent this.
IMO one minor flaw with the game is that too many sinkings are accompanied by dramatic fire, smoke, USS Arizona-esque magazine blasts, flying metal, sailors getting flung overboard, etc etc. IRL many torpedoed ships sank without catching fire, or the fires were belowdecks and not observable.

I'm sorry that I can't help you with the Lighting or UV Mapping, but you may want to contact Anvart on the subject of lighting. I don't know if you really need to light up this ship though, as she would always be sailing under the British (i.e. a belligerent) flag and would never be lit up in real life.

Yes, a Queen Mary normal, and another ship, I think a German ship or hospital ship, with a light.
Have you have some idea of a liner with three funnel? :hmm:
I have a long list a liner in construction, but I would want to be concentrated on some and... to end the job :up:

If you're looking to pick one to light up, it might be best to choose an American, Spanish, Swedish, or South American liner as those countries would have operated liners under a neutral flag during at least some point of the war. I might be able to find you a three funneled US liner, although I can't think of one off the top of my head right now. I doubt any of the other countries I listed would have operated any liners that large though.

Even if Gerome_73 doesn't make the other two classes, the Dorsetshire class itself would be a pretty good stand-in for the other two classes - more so than any of the current CLs would be anyway.:yep: But I really do hope he makes the other two classes.

For the rigging, have try, you must divide the polygons, that then compose the rigging, in many fractions and with manipulator, to bend. Or to create the rigging like nurbs, to bend it, and then to coonvert to the polygons.
