The read me that is in the documents in the MODS\GWR\documents is gibberish (& by gibberish, I mean that about 1/3 to somewhere close to 1/2 of it is unreadable, due to there not being words, but instead is a weird collection of symbols replacing words interspersed throughout the .txt document), most notably in the install section of it.

So, am at a stand still on going further at this point in time. :06: :hmmm: :timeout:

Are you talking about "ReadMeGWR.pdf" or "GWR.txt" in the Documentation folder?
The latter contains a portion of the Cyrillic text that your computer may not support.

That would be GWR.txt located in the MODS folder, inside the GWR folder.. inside the documents folder... :yep:

It looks excellent but I have two issues.

1. I successfully apply the H.sie patch but everytime I try to apply the Stiebler addon, the sh3.exe magically disappears, no where to be seen.

2. I try to start a career in a type IIA in 1939 in the Weddigen Flotilla. I end starting with nearly 7 extra sailors than I should have. I try to start the patrol only for it to hang around the 100% mark for a while before finally crashing.

Not to mention that the Naval Academy worked *perfectly* so Idk what the issue is here.

Any help would be apperciated. :salute:

I have Downloaded the GWR2020 then test it and I found some Gui Issues
For the original one it seem like MaGui F the recognition book was covered by some layers that I can not change the nationality。
The ARB 1920x1080 UI mod which comes with the GWR2020 I found that the Dials of the TDC was drift, This makes me can not set the shooting Data..

Anyone else having issues with CTDs? I try to start my first patrol in a new career but it crashes everytime! The Naval Academy works just fine but a new career doesn't work at all!
I was really looking forward to playing this mod but it does not want to work.

I tried to install twice, both times GWR 2020 crashes before reaching the menu screen with the loading bar all the way to the right. No idea why or how to fix it but it has since been deleted.

I am also running Stock, GWX Gold, NYGM 2017, LSH-15, WAC and CCoM 12 and so know a little bit about multiple SH3 installations.

OK, downloaded the fix and started from scratch. Installed and activated GWR, activated the four H.Sie/Stiebler mods in numerical order, activated the fix and managed to started a 1940 career. So far so good.

Very pretty to look at but it took almost 15-minutes to load so it remains to be seen if the game play is worth the wait.

Applying the fix and then the mods caused a CTD but installing in the above order seems to have worked.

So thanks for your efforts.

Cannot bring up the UZO. Pressing "U" does nothing. Shift+U and Ctrl+U generate a "Yes Sir!" message but nothing else.

Shift+U/Ctrl+U
This is exactly how UZO is installed on Turms.
"U" is disabled in Commands_en/ge.cfg
So that it doesn't look like when UZO is not installed.
But there is a trick - click not UZO on the turm icon at the bottom of the panel.
PS. On what turm does it not work?

Fixed it

VIIB has a Turm 1, but in different configurations. From 19390901 without Reichsadler and from 19400311 with Wintergarden.

Both are in the Commander. This is done to change the type of deckhouse and U-boat, even if you want to start a career for type VIIA

Thanks for the fix but GWR has stopped working again. I changed nothing in the installation or on my computer but when trying to start using SH3 Cdr or the SH3.exe directly, the loading bar gets to 95% of the way to the Main Menu screen and then it CTD with the error message "Silent Hunter has encountered a problem and needs to close".

Anvar, the patches are supposed to be installed one on top of the other, or just the last patch (GWR-Tool-Fixes-20201013)? Have been unable to start a career so far, the only thing working 100% is the Academy. In career crashes most of the time when loading, and when it doesn't the CTD happens within 30-40 seconds after it finished loading.


What about the XXi patch and TypeIIb_U9_Ritterkreuz?



Could you please update your first post with a simple ordered list of which patches to install? Thank you!

Patch XXI has already been rewritten with the new GWR-Tool-Fixes-202010 **. Mod TypeIIb_U9_Ritterkreuz I recommend to use together with the Black Sea campaign.

CTD when I start a campaign, CTD when i start a single mission, CTC when I start the museum every time

I activated the mods in the correct order and the fix by dragging the "data" from the tool fixes to my SH3 folder. I ran hsie and stiebler and updated the .exe from both. Before that i ran the tycho patch.bat. When i run sh3toolkit.exe i only get a report as follows:

At this point, have set aside attempting to add this to the virgin copy I have of SH3... My reasoning is.. understanding the correct order of doing so, is an unclear, convoluted jumble.

The original GWX, was done so, in a clear concise manner.. in that it was simplified, you clicked on the install .exe for it & away it went. LSH3, was in the same format, as GWX. CCoM users, were given a clear concise road map of install order & what to do if issues arose in installing it. (that I recall of.. to be frank, it has been some time since I used CCoM, so My recall with it may be a bit rusty...). WAC, was like CCoM, as well. NYGM, I ran into issues with understanding what to do to get that installed, to the point I just stopped even trying.

That said.. I do want to give this a fair shake.. but at this point, am just stymied as to getting everything lined up for proper install...

Am wondering, if it is possible to have the GWR, set up in a format to allow for it to update a GWX install... or to have the install do as GWX did, start an .exe command that does the install for you.. Yes, I do have some experience with file editing.. but only to a point.. beyond that, I don't feel comfortable poking around with file editing...

I really do want to give this a try, but.. as I said.. am not understanding just how to get it working... :06: :hmmm: :06:

If you look closely at the Mission Editor and figure it out, you will notice that these convoys fly the same routes at different times throughout the war.
Sink them all!

I really do want to give this a try, but.. as I said.. am not understanding just how to get it working...

I hate to upset you, but you are faced with a problem similar to NYGM and are faced with the dilemma of choosing what you want.
I'm not a great teacher to explain what needs to be done. I, like a small child, read from pictures.
Using JSGME rather than installer I can always go back to SH3 stock. But if someone has ideas, I will definitely listen to them.

All the so called GWX improvements that come from this guy almost never work. He cobbles this stuff together and never puts out an install order that is worth a damn and never really answers peoples questions in a straight forword manner. Thats why I won't use his stuff.

I agree 100%. I give up after 4 hours of wasted time, which I spent unsuccessfully to get this mod running, now I'm annoyed and hope for LSH3 Edition 2020, which will explain the installation in a reasonable way. It's a pity, because for the creator here it would probably have taken only 30 minutes to put together a step by step installation guide, with which I probably would have solved the CTD problems

I tried this Crew on Deck in GWX and oddly enough the crew on deck works if playing a Patrol, but wouldn't show up in a Campaign (actually it would just crash the campaign game start up).

AFAIK, the crew on deck mod will not work without or outside GWR 2020, it's stand-alone mod, but for GWR 2020, that's why you are getting the CTD's... :03:
Of course, I could be wrong...

So the problem is not in this mod, but in the lack of RAM for Campaigning.

I think you're right on the nose. I have 8 RAM, which I suspect is also my problem with the Onealix mod.

Doubling up to 16 Ram should do the trick. Or do you think I should go to 32?

I have 16 Gb without problems.
But anyway, you could have 500Gb, when the game engine is overreached...

I confirm what Fifi says !!! whether with 8g or with 16g I myself have just switched to 16 g the Onealex mod works perfectly

I came across the same problem. It seems as the sh3.exe ist automatically being deleted, when applying the patch. I've already disabled anti malware software, but nothing changed.


Any ideas?

Thank you all for your warm welcome after a really long time of silent running ;-). I just downloaded another version of the patch kit from LSH3 mod, which worked for me. I wondered if it was compatible with other mods than LSH3 but the game runs fine so far with Stiebler features working.

While working on the AI _Crew mod, there was an unknown error causing CTD when viewing German U-boats in the Museum. I had to take a step back.

I have just installed it I regret not having precise explanations on the installation of the patch kit more precisely 1.V16B1-Patch-Kit because I had the problems previously ... quote! in the optional mods no explanation on what these mods do ... if you want "testers" you need more precision how to install !!!:k_confused:in the past I had already tried rework GwR 19 but due to lack of time I could not continue elsewhere there was a lot of problem ...!:It's a shame because I'm sure the mod is worth it

I'm no novice at installing mods but it was hard for me to follow his instructions in the read-me pdf or whatever it was since it was all broken up by page breaks and poor English. It wasn't well organized either. I had to just feel around and go with lessons learned from other mod installations.

It is difficult to give an opinion, even if there is sometimes a problem, before testing repeatedly, as well as to take into account many other factors.

I am currently focusing on wolf packs in my career i had several successful conversions, after installing the penultimate fix i had a CDT several times during the pursuit of the convoy,which, of course, does not mean that the cause is in fix

Now I'm testing with the latest fix, and in the meantime the new version of GWR has come out ... The bad thing is that i can't be a big criterion when evaluating a mod, for the simple reason that my computer has poor parameters

Those are the subs for H.sie's wolfpack patch and are part of it's documentation. Stiebler's are a separate item which are part of NYGM and are found in the .rnd file. It is an easy job to add them to any SH3 installation.
H.sie's are called in to attack via contact reports. Stiebler's are attached to a few convoys in the .rnd file and attack when the player enters the convoy's 3d bubble, though there are no solo attack reports generated from it or H.sie's either.
Since ivanov seemed to say he didn't call in this attack (seemed surprised by it and mentioned Stiebler) the ai subs didn't seem to have been H.sie's hence my .rnd file comment.
Maybe I misunderstood Ivanov's post. :hmmm: Maybe by "report of a solo attack" he meant that was the reply he had to a contact report he sent which can happen with H.sie's patch, but then no H.sie ai subs would have attacked and someone did..

You're right, DGUI is not tuned for GWR. Remove Commands_en (de) .cfg from it. I copied them to Documentation folder instead of moved.

I have not added support for German sub compilation yet, that is why those commands don't work. I added shift u and control u in the last version but I have not tested them. I had a very busy 2 weeks and I could not work on DGUI but I think this week I can finish adding integrated orders and those commands.

If My ol' dusty HD aka brain... serves Me right, I think the commands were cntrl+D/Shift+D to have them assemble on deck & to shuffle off back into the boat... I seem to recall that being the proper commands for Crew on deck... just don't quote Me 100% on that, though.. & only time having them on deck, would be just before departing home port.... just My own thoughts on that... :yep:

Any way, hope this is helpful on that front.

Ok, using the crew on deck commands, while in the control room... ain't gonna net you a view of them from there... the only areas you'll see them show up on deck (or shuffle off back into the boat which is a misnomer as I recall they aren't even animated, they just pop into view automatically & disappear the same way..), is from the bridge, using either , or . to go to side shot view... or, finally using the free cam . That's it.

If ya want to delete the whole crew on deck, ya gonna have to get info on that process from one of the others commenting in here... I know jack squat about that process... other than dumping the mod, if it was activated in jsgme, then pretty much every one knows how to there. :yep:

Finally got this Mod running, the problem was the the installation folder required a four-character name (GWR3 vice GWR) otherwise otherwise it would crash to desktop before loading.

The lack of documentation beyond the installation process detracts from the mod. There is no way to know what keystroke commands do what and I could not figure out how to get the crew off the deck or the UZO in position although figured out the flag (F), RDF antenna (V) and control room hatch (H) using Shift and CTRL as per conventions in other mods.

Loading time is about 12-minutes from clicking "Start", about twice as long as CCoM 12 and more than three times GWX.

How does one disable the "Crew on Deck" mod? I want the crew at their stations on departure and not lollygagging on the casing. While some people might find this so-called feature "immersive" for me it's an unwanted, irritating distraction and I need to make it go away forever before I try this again.

Called optimization...reducing all TGA weight (when it’s possible - compromise with rendering), deleting all numerous non used files (there are plenty), deleting english speech folder etc etc...
Sound and TGAs are the heaviest parts of the game for loading.

@ Anvar1061, Thank you for the response and the info on how to remove the Crew on Deck thing.

I have tested the naming convention a number of times and I think that it is real but may be related to the first letter of the folder name in relation to similar folder names for SH3 copies. I already had a SH3 installation with folder name GLX for the Onealex supermod but every time I tried to use GWR or GXR as the folder name for your mod I got a crash to desktop, even with the stock copy. Then, on a whim, I renamed the folder of the SH3 stock copy from GWR to GWR3 and lo and behold, there were no more crashes. Odd but there it is.

Since nobody else seems to have noted the issue it's probably irrelevant.

I will fix the three types of shells issue for next version, it was there from the base mod I used. I will also check the free camera on deck too.


The size and shape of the periscopes and uzo is the same because I wanted to maintain consistency on the perceived size of objects when using them. Also, I wanted to use a realistic monocular shape. I probably won't change that.

I don't think those graticles and deck gun graphics are the ones in my mod, perhaps something is overwriting them. The deck gun should look like the one ericlea posted.

Not sure what you mean.

It is running, started a new 7th Flotilla career via SH3 Commander, November 1942 to see how the Wolf Pack functioning goes.

Figured out how to get the crew off of the casing: first use the "Crew on Deck" command in the Watch Officer Menu and only after doing that try CTRL+D, otherwise the troops on the casing just flicker a few times.

The interface will take some getting used to but I saw nothing to object to.

Tried to refit the boat with the two-platform Turm to double the AAA available but the sim crashed to desktop after the "not so long ago..." screen. This career became unloadable so had to delete and start over.

Second career attempt using the same parameters; did not change the Turm and it loaded fine. Some traffic but the enclosed St Nazaire port shown on the map screen does not appear and was able to sail straight out of the bunker and through the harbour graphics on the map. There did not seem to be any reason for the 8-16 FPS in the immediate vicinity of the port but frame rates soon improved to 30+ when on the bridge.

Once into the Bay of Biscay tried to move an officer without the Watchkeeping ability to the bridge using the Crew Screen and the sim crashed to desktop. No idea if the lack of ability was the cause or something else entirely. However, with loading times typically in excess of 15-minutes (3-5 to load the menu and 12+ to load the sim), I am not too inclined to do much troubleshooting. Had neglected to save up to that point so the career is scuppered.

Is what I have seen so far impressive with regards to visual appeal? I would say so but I am not yet certain that I am on board with some of the included features and to be honest, the long loading times are a bit of a killer.

For what it's worth I have no less than seven SH3 super-mod installations in no particular order:

GWX3
CCoM-12
LHS-15
WAC-5
NYGM-7A

Each has its charms and issues but one thing that they all have in common is the tremendous dedication and talent demonstrated by the respective development teams. As a content consumer rather than a content creator it is important for us to recognize the debt that we users owe all Modders.

CTD moving an officer from the aft accommodation to the bridge. Officer had the watch keeper ability. Had done this successfully a few minutes before so cannot discern a pattern here.

Watch Crew never dons wet weather gear despite heavy precipitation.

Think that I'm about done with this mod in its current form. It has too many features that I don't want, it seems to be too unstable on my rig and takes far too long to load. Thanks for the opportunity to test it.

Fwiw, the crew won't don wet weather gear below the storm settings in each sub's .cfg file.
Change it to something lower if desired but the flak/deck guns will also be unable to be manned at the same level if that matters (I don't use them anyway).

I just tested DGUI with just GWX and it works well. The cursor that you show in your screenshot is the default GWX cursor but mine is larger.

Try downloading my mod and copying all files in data/menu/MouseCurs and replacing the ones you have.


I am downloading GWR 2020 to test it and try to give you better support.

I haven't installed the mod yet but I can see that the DGUI mod folder included has the right files. It is probable a mod order problem, some mod could be replacing the mouse cursor files.


In general DGUI should be installed last, the only exception would be compatibility patches.

also inside the GWR/Mod folder, at least some of them.

1) Если в одиночной нет вылета, а в кампании или в музее вылет есть возможно есть смысл поменять идентификаторы с помощью S3D... во всех связанных файлах мода.
2) Кроме того в моде редактировались файлы вооружения, исправлялись ошибки анимации и геометрии. Черт возьми это было так давно, что я уже почти ничего не помню...
Попробуй сначала первое...
Кстати в Музее у меня и без AI_Crew иногда вылетает при просмотре немецких подлодок, когда курсор быстро перескакивает с одной на другую, третью...

I do not recommend using a steam version have an ubi or EMEA DVD version ...
did you download the mods?

if yes in the GWR SH3 v21.2 folder there are 4 folders and 2 files
place them all in your install folder of the games ex: D: \ Sh3 \ SilentHunterIIIGwR21
then use Jsgme exe ... to activate your mods read the doc provided in the mods because it depends on the way you want to play several ways as possible :Kaleun_Salute:

Сравни все файлы со своим модом. Сразу могу сказать: последнюю строку из NYGM EnglishNames.cfg/GermanNames.cfg вставь в свои одноимённые файлы. Проверь/сравни все файлы мода с такими же (если есть) или аналогичными файлами других классических подлодок. Начал миссию на Type2D с подключенным _AI_crew_anim_.7z прошёл до квадрата патрулирования... вылета не случилось. Очень долго грузятся Музей (~9 мин.), кампания и простенькие одиночные миссии также примерно 9-9.5 минут. Очень раздражает, надоедает - это будет причиной малой востребованности.

Продолжаю. Было бы замечательно, если бы ты протестировал AI_Crew отключив все моды изменяющие файлы sh3.exe, и другие.

metal radar warning fumb from 1943 is awesome too, radar antenna wonderful too, uzo too !
Skin from type 7C is fantastic in GWR21 !


but 08/1942 and 08/1943 i can't leave 20-30 km west from Saint Nazaire base. i have always ctd.
(at TC x32 sometime x64 max)
I think there is problem when playing with a 1980x1080 widegui. (as sometimes in wac5.2)

it is better than before (in gwr20) with type 7C (when full interior was in type7c i always had ctd at load screen with 1920x1080 widegui). I can now (gwr21 is without full interior) enter into the game but it is not stable enough to play...



I will now test with Type 9C at Lorient. 08/1943 and i will demand a transfert to Saint Nazaire after patrol to test type 9C in Saint Nazaire too...

yes you are right but there is big stablity problem when we want to play GWR21 in a 1920x1080 resolution. even with the excellent 1920x1080 DGUI from Diego (wich eats less ram memory than Ahnenerbe or ARB widegui).


I think at this day, max resolution to play GWR21 in good stability condition is 1360x768 not more...

after a fresh installation I installed the Gwr21.2 mods to start the game without other mods so that it creates its backup then I started with "commander" and I realized that commanding does not delete the opening intro despite this one either check by checking in the "ini" file I wonder if it works normally because I don't think someone can confirm it? So does roll back work? Does "commander" work normally? :hmmm:

Saw this yesterday and decided to give it a whirl. Here are my observations so far:

1) Difficult to understand installation instructions. I'm puzzled at the nested MOD folders. After a bit of playing about I (think, anyway) have it properly installed.

2) The initial load screen takes longer than any other mod, about twice as long. However, that's not really anything to gripe about; 30 seconds versus a minute is chump change. The subsequent career load, on the other hand...is crazy fast compared to the other supermods I'm familiar with.

3) Gramophone track only plays one song.

4&5) Both issues with the Navigation Map. The water colors (oceans, seas, etc.) are way off (see below). As well, the "helper tools" are offset from the actual plot point (again, see below).

If I run across anything as I play, good or bad, I'll post here. So far, this looks very promising!
