With the march on Rome by thousands of fascist “black shirts” their leader, Benito Mussolini, forces the Italian government to resign. Two days later, Mussolini receives from King Victor Emmanuel III. the task of forming a government.

Canteleu (France) The cargo ship was driven ashore at Brest, Finistère and was wrecked.
Moneyspinner (United Kingdom) The coaster was abandoned in the Bay of Biscay (45°00′N 3°57′W) after her cargo shifted. Her crew were rescued by La Fontaine ( France). Moneyspinner was towed into La Rochelle, Charente-Maritime, arriving on 6 November.

Duckland (United States) The 10-gross register ton, 42-foot (12.8 m) fishing vessel dragged her anchor and was wrecked at the mouth of Anita Bay (56°14′N 132°23′W) on the northeast coast of Etolin Island in the Alexander Archipelago in Southeast Alaska, becoming a total loss. Her crew of two survived.
Guillem Sorolla (Spain) The cargo ship issued an SOS in the Atlantic Ocean (48°33′N 8°00′W). No further trace, presumed foundered with the loss of all hands.
Pioneer (United Kingdom) The cargo ship caught fire off Poole, Dorset and was a total loss.

Oregon City (United States) During a voyage from Evans Bay, Territory of Alaska, to Tacoma, Washington, with a crew of seven and a cargo of four tons of herring on board, the 23-gross register ton motor sloop was destroyed in Warm Springs Bay on the coast of Baranof Island in the Alexander Archipelago in Southeast Alaska by a fire that began when her engine backfired. Her crew survived and was rescued by the motorboat Monitor ( United States).

Washington (United States) With 25,000 pounds (11,000 kg) of fresh halibut aboard, the 36-gross register ton, 54-foot (16 m) fishing schooner was stranded near Cape Suckling (59°59′30″N 143°53′00″W) in the Territory of Alaska during a gale, becoming a total loss. He entire cargo also was lost, but everyone on board survived.

The French court-martial in Werden sentenced Gustav Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach, head of the Krupp company, to 15 years in prison. Eight directors and plant managers also receive prison sentences. The convicts are found guilty of the bloody incident at the Krupp works in Essen.

Caesarea (United Kingdom) On departing St Helier harbour, the passenger ferry struck the Pignonet Rock, off Moilmont Point, Jersey Channel islands and was holed. Her captain decided to return to port, but she later struck the Oyster Rock and was beached at St Helier. All 370 passengers were rescued. She was refloated on 20 July and taken to England for repairs. She was later refloated and towed to Southampton, Hampshire, where she arrived on 4 August.

Germany: The Reich government of Wilhelm Cuno resigned after losing the confidence of the coalition parties DDP and DVP and also that of the SPD. The DVP chairman Gustav Stresemann was entrusted with the formation of a new government.

Germany: The new Reich government under Gustav Stresemann (DVP) was sworn in. In contrast to the Wilhelm Cuno government, this cabinet of the grand coalition (SPD, DDP, Zentrum, DVP) had a parliamentary majority. Stresemann became Chancellor and Foreign Minister at the same time.

Sable Island (United Kingdom) The cargo liner ran aground at Lamaline, Newfoundland. Her passengers were taken off on 14 August. She was refloated on 24 August.

Douglas (Isle of Man) The passenger ship collided with Artemisia ( United Kingdom) in the River Mersey at Liverpool, Lancashire. All on board were rescued before she sank. The wreck was cleared in December.

HMS L9 (Royal Navy) The L-class submarine sank at Hong Kong during a typhoon. She was salvaged on 6 September, repaired and returned to service.
Loongsang (United Kingdom) The cargo ship foundered in a typhoon at Hong Kong with the loss of 25 lives.
Mylie (United Kingdom) The cargo ship foundered during a typhoon with the loss of all but one of her crew. The survivor was rescued by Sin Kiang ( United Kingdom) on 30 August. She was on a voyage from Chinwangtao to Shanghai, China.
Sekino Maru (Japan) The cargo ship sank at Hong Kong during a typhoon.

Ship Losses:

Changsha (United Kingdom) The refrigerated cargo liner was driven onto the Tiji Tiji Reef, off Simunul, Tawi-Tawi, Philippines. Her passengers were rescued by Victoria ( United Kingdom). She was refloated on 23 September.
Leicester (United Kingdom) The cargo ship ran aground at Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada. She was refloated on 22 August.
Samson (United States) The 11-gross register ton, 33.4-foot (10.2 m) fishing vessel was destroyed by fire at Cape Augustine (54°57′N 133°10′W) on Dall Island in the Alexander Archipelago in Southeast Alaska. Her three-man crew survived.

Ship Losses:

Submarine No. 70 (Imperial Japanese Navy) The Ro-29-class submarine foundered in the Seto Inland Sea off Awaji Island with the loss of 90 of her 95 crew. Salvage operations began in October.
