Not at the time the photograph was taken.

LEANDER-Class cruiser ordered from Cammell Laird at Birkenhead on 16th February 1931. The ship was laid down on 11th June that year and launched on 1st September 1932 as the 9th RN warship to carry the name. It was previously used for a cruiser sold in 1923. After completion on 10th October 1933 she served with the Home Fleet until 1935 and attended the Silver Jubilee Review by HM King George V. In November 1935 she refitted at Chatham for service with New Zealand Division and re-commissioned with a New Zealand crew from HM Cruiser DIOMEDE on 31st March 1936. Before arriving in New Zealand in September 1936. she worked-up in the Mediterranean during the Abyssinian crisis. This ship had a very long association with New Zealand and was formally transferred to the RNZN on its formation in July 1941.

After 1922, Mikasa was decommissioned (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_decommissioning) in accordance with the Washington Naval Treaty (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Naval_Treaty) and preserved as a museum ship (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum_ship) at Yokosuka (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokosuka,_Kanagawa). She was badly neglected during the post-World War II (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II)Occupation of Japan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupation_of_Japan) and required extensive refurbishing in the late 1950s. She is now fully restored as a museum ship and can be visited at Mikasa Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikasa_Park) in Yokosuka (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokosuka,_Kanagawa). Following the surrender of Japan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surrender_of_Japan) in 1945, the ship deteriorated under control of the occupation forces (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupation_of_Japan), but was restored after another campaign led by the Japan Times (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Times) and Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester_W._Nimitz) that allowed the ship to reopen in 1961. On 5 August 2009, Mikasa was repainted by sailors from USS Nimitz (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Nimitz_(CVN-68)).
Mikasa, a modified Formidable Class British-built ship, is the last remaining example of a pre-dreadnought battleship anywhere in the world. [wiki]

We appreciate that you MONITOR our effort!:arrgh!:https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2a/USS_Monitor_James_River_1862.jpg
The revolving gun turret from the civil war era “Ironclad” ship USS Monitor is lifted from the ocean floor, and placed onto the derrick barge “Wotan”. U.S. Navy divers assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2 (MDSU-2) provided expert deep-sea salvage crews to assist the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to recover the ship’s gun turret, 11-inch Dahlgren cannons, and other artifacts from the historic vessel. Since its designation as our nation's first marine sanctuary in 1975, the Monitor has been the subject of intense investigation. The turret was the first revolving gun of its kind and will eventually be on public display in the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, Va. The famed warship sank 240 feet to the ocean floor during a heavy storm off Cape Hatteras on Dec. 31, 1862. Four officers and 12 men were lost.https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2f/US_Navy_020805-N-0872M-503_USS_Monitor_gun_turret_pulled_from_the_water_d uring_salvage_operation.jpg/1024px-US_Navy_020805-N-0872M-503_USS_Monitor_gun_turret_pulled_from_the_water_d uring_salvage_operation.jpg

This was really interesting to see real footage in color.

Makes me want to load up a flight sim.

American documentary & propaganda film produced by the U.S. Navy during World War II and narrated by Lt. Robert Taylor USNR.

The plot of the film revolves around the life of seamen on board an anonymous aircraft carrier. Because of war time restrictions, the name of the aircraft carrier was disguised as "the Fighting Lady"; afterwards the ship's true name became public -- she was the USS Yorktown. A few shots of aircraft landing were filmed aboard USS Ticonderoga. Due to her fighting heritage, and to honor all carrier sailors and airmen, the Yorktown is on permanent display at Patriots Point in Charleston, SC.

In the scene of a strafing mission against the Japanese-held island of Truk, one of the figures seen running for cover is an American POW. According to his autobiography, that prisoner was Maj. Gregory H. 'Pappy' Boyington, the highest-scoring U.S. Marine pilot of the war, who had been shot down a few months before in the Solomon Islands.

Leading two ships are: Kansas (BB-21) and Vermont (BB-22). :hmmm: Roosevelt didn't want a break with Japan, as the United States was ill-prepared for war. Most of our battle fleet was concentrated in the Atlantic, and there were only a handful of armored cruisers on duty in the Pacific. In the event of war with Japan, this small contingent that made up the Asiatic Battle Fleet would have to abandon the Philippines for West Coast ports until the United States had strength enough to go on the offensive. Thus, to impress upon Japan that the US Navy could shift from the Atlantic to the Pacific, Roosevelt ordered the Great White Fleet to sail around the world. The President also wanted to find out what condition the fleet would be in after such a transit. As he stated before the fleet's departure, "I want all failures, blunders and shortcomings to be made apparent in time of peace and not in time of war." But, more importantly, Roosevelt felt that a successful cruise of this magnitude would provide the American people with an example of US naval prepardness, strength and range. I guess when dealing with the 'Yellow Peril' in 1907 ?!! it helps to dub fleet the Great White Fleet...move over RIMPAC-The apogee of 'gunboat diplomacy'! http://www.history.navy.mil/research/library/online-reading-room/title-list-alphabetically/c/cruise-great-white-fleet-mckinley.html (http://www.history.navy.mil/research/library/online-reading-room/title-list-alphabetically/c/cruise-great-white-fleet-mckinley.html)

At the Battle of Santiago USS was very actively involved. OREGON was the only vessel in the American Squadron that was able to obtain and exceed her rated speed, as a result of a combination of factors, reflecting her captain's preparedness. The vessel had kept all of her engines engaged rather than disconnecting some as some vessel commanders had ordered to save coal. In addition, her captain had preserved his best coal for use in an engagement. It was the guns of the OREGON, which bracketed the CRISTOBAL COLON (http://www.spanamwar.com/colon.htm), the swiftest vessel on either side, that caused the COLON (http://www.spanamwar.com/colon.htm)'s commander to decide to beach the vessel, ending the battle. USS Oregon's arrival at the battle was noteworthy: The 14,700 mile cruise, under the command of Capt. Charles Clark, (http://www.spanamwar.com/clark.htm) was done with the utmost speed, but still took sixty-seven days. The ship did not even put into port when a coal bunker was discovered to be on fire adjacent to a magazine. (similar to what had destroyed the USS Maine-causing the war to begin with??!!) The race of the USS OREGON around South America and through the stormy Strait of Magellan to join the Atlantic Fleet was closely followed by the American public. The voyage was of the factors that drove home the need for a canal linking the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. In short: the tactical gunboat diplomacy:up: of rounding the 'Horn' opened the way for the strategic gunboat diplomacy of separating Panama politically(1903) from Columbia in order to build the Canal...:yeah:

Concurrent with the first batch of Elco 70-foot PT boats (PT’s 10-19), the U.S. Navy also ordered twelve boats to be fitted out as submarine chasers, or PTC’s. These boats were the same as their torpedo-boat sisters, but the PTC’s would carry twenty-four depth charges instead of torpedoes. Six charges would be carried in racks on the stern, while four more charges could be carried in two Y-guns located forward of the stern racks. Reloads were carried on rails that ran alongside the port and starboard deck edge.

But, but, but, the Us navy only HAD two Mackerel class subs, and that Guppy 1A has a Guppy 3 sail!

Imagine my surprise to learn that we made 4 Mackerels for Peru. And that 1A boat could certainly have received a later Guppy 3 sail before being sold to Peru.

Oh the things we learn...

HMS Nubian (Royal Navy) Battle of Dover Strait: The Tribal-class destroyer was torpedoed and damaged by a Kaiserliche Marine destroyer and was beached. She was subsequently salvaged, with her stern section being joined to the bow section of HMS Zulu ( Royal Navy), the new ship being named HMS Zubian.
In late 1916, two British destroyers of the 6th Flotilla in the Dover Patrol (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dover_Patrol)—Nubian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Nubian_(1909)) and Zulu (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Zulu_(1909))—were badly damaged by German attacks in the English Channel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Channel). Nubian's bow had been destroyed by a torpedo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpedo) from a German torpedo boat (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpedo_boat) on 26 October,https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a0/HMSNubian.jpg/170px-HMSNubian.jpg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:HMSNubian.jpg) while Zulu had her stern blown off by a mine in the Channel on 8 November, and was towed to Calais (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calais). Both wrecks were then towed to Chatham Dockyard (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatham_Dockyard), where a complete destroyer was constructed by joining the foreparts of Zulu with the stern of Nubian, and despite a 3.5 inches (89 mm) difference in beam (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beam_(ship)),the unique operation was successful. The ship was renamed Zubian by Admiral Reginald Bacon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reginald_Bacon), the commander of the Dover Patrol. The hybrid destroyer was commissioned on 7 June 1917. The choice of name caused confusion among the German Imperial Admiralty Staff (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Imperial_Admiralty_Staff), who knew of no such ship under construction. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1e/HMS_Zubian.jpg THE hybrid EFFORT PAID OFF: On 4 February 1918, she encountered the mine-laying UC-50 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-boat) in the Dover Strait; the U-boat was surfaced about 400 yards (370 m) off Zubian's port bow with her radio antennae up. Zubian attempted to ram the submarine but the Germans managed to submerge. The destroyer then dropped depth charges over the submerged U-boat and a significant amount of oil and wreckage was observed thereafter. Zubian marked the location with a buoy and an hour later, the patrol vessel HMS P12 (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=HMS_P12&action=edit&redlink=1) dropped additional depth charges there. Trawlers later located an object that divers confirmed was UC-50. a considerable victory as UC-50 (kapitänleutnant Rudolf Seuffer), had sunk 29 vessels; five of which were Royal Navy vessels.

Admiral Kuznetsov: heavy aircraft 'cruiser' In the Russian Navy, "aviation cruiser" is a designation for the Kiev (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiev-class_aircraft_carrier) and Kuznetsov-class (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuznetsov-class_aircraft_carrier) ships. They are a cross between cruiser and aircraft carrier and are divided in two classes, the aviation cruisers and the heavy aviation cruisers. The Kuznetsov class ships are considered to be aircraft cruisers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_cruiser) under international law. The term originally used by her builders to describe the Soviet ships is tyazholiy avianesushchiy kreyser (TAKR or TAVKR) – “heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_cruiser)” – intended to support and defend strategic missile-carrying submarines, surface ships, and maritime missile-carrying aircraft of the Soviet fleet. Under the Montreux Convention (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreux_Convention), the Soviet Union was not allowed to transit aircraft carriers heavier than 15,000 tons through the Turkish Straits (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_Straits). However, there is no tonnage restriction on cruisers operated by Black Sea (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sea) Powers. Turkey has always allowed them to pass through the Straits, and no other signatory to the Montreux Convention has objected to their designation as cruisers.https://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-QY431_RUSNAV_M_20161125143327.jpg Admiral Kuznetsov is conventionally powered by eight gas-fired boilers and four steam turbines, each producing 50,000 hp (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horsepower) (37 MW), driving four shafts with fixed-pitch propellers. The maximum speed is 29 knots (54 km/h; 33 mph), and her range at maximum speed is 3,800 nautical miles (7,000 km; 4,400 mi). At 18 knots (33 km/h; 21 mph), her maximum economical range is 8,500 nautical miles (15,700 km; 9,800 mi) Since the inauguration of Admiral Kuznetsov it has been plagued by years of technical problems. The vessel's steam turbines and turbo-pressurised boilers have been reported to be that unreliable that the carrier is accompanied by a large ocean-going tug whenever it deploys, in case it breaks down. Other problems include flaws in the water piping system which causes it to freeze during winter. To prevent pipes bursting, the water is turned off to most of the cabins and half the latrines do not work.:k_confused: IMHO: how not to "show the flag" in the Mediterranean!

looking at the vessel 210m long she is required by SOLAS to have pop up life rafts every 100m so no doubt they are stowed at the fore-ward end while the life boats which likely have a capacity of 125 persons each are stowed aft thus fully complying with SOLAS chapter III.
