^ L'anse Amour Newfoundland where the HMS Raleigh heavy Cruiser ran aground to avoid an iceberg in heavy fog-excess speed was a factor. On August 8, 1902, the 12,000-ton, 605-foot-long HMS Raleigh (http://www.lighthousefriends.com/pointamour9_kla.jpg) ran aground just west of the light station. While visiting Newfoundland ports, the commander of the British warship decided to make a stop in Forteau Bay so the officers could try their luck in the Forteau River, which was known for its salmon and trout fishing. While approaching the bay in a heavy fog, the Raleigh had to sharply alter its course to avoid an iceberg and snagged its hull on a reef. A motorboat was launched to take a lifeline to shore, but it capsized in the surf, resulting in the drowning of 10 seamen. One sailor did manage to get the lifeline to shore, and with the help of men at Point Amour, it was secured allowing the nearly 700 men aboard the Raleigh to come ashore.
Every square foot of living space at the station had to be used to house the unexpected guests that first night, but the surrounding communities pitched in to bunk the men until a vessel from Montreal arrived five days later to take the men back to England. In 1926, the Royal Navy returned and destroyed the remains of the stranded warship. Visitors to the station can follow the “Raleigh Trail” west to view pieces of the vessel (http://www.lighthousefriends.com/pointamour6_kla.jpg) that still litter the shoreline. A re-enactment of the wreck takes place each year on the anniversary of the grounding. . http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/95/Hms_raleigh.jpgGrounded upright for four years-a total write off-destroyed, after all salvageable gear was removed, with explosives.

If you look at the old type of Carrier and the carrier that came some years after the WWII. There's a huge different in how the flight deck was made.
The person who came up with the idea of a landing deck and a strait deck(do not know the real name for it) was a genius

While watching documentaries of D-Day I was surprised to learn that the Germans found a dead Allied Officer with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist. Inside was the entire battle plan for the D-Day invasion.
Unknown to the Allies then, the Germans knew the entire D-Day (and after) battle order, including the bridges the paratroopers were to take and hold in preparation for the main invasion force moving inland.

USS Franklin after hit: "At that moment, logged at 7:07, Commander Jurika saw an enemy plane sweep over his head. It was a Japanese Yokosuka D4Y Judy dive bomber, and it dropped two 500-pound bombs on Franklin. The twin blasts hurled Jurika into the air, and he hit the steel overhead. The first bomb ripped through 3-inch armor to the hangar deck. The second bomb detonated two decks below that, near the chief petty officers’ quarters. The explosions knocked Captain Gehres off his feet. He saw great sheets of flame envelope the flight deck, the anti-aircraft batteries and catwalks. The forward elevator — weighing 32 tons — rose in the air and then disappeared in a great column of flame and black smoke.": One I had not seen before from 'Saracen discovered' thread photos. http://www.independent.co.uk/incoming/article10129825.ece/alternates/w1024/WWII_UK_27.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/db/Attack_on_carrier_USS_Franklin_19_March_1945.jpg/1024px-Attack_on_carrier_USS_Franklin_19_March_1945.jpg< wiki

Sword Beach (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sword_Beach) was her assigned area; she was given the primary task of silencing the Berneville battery. The ship began by opening fire on the 6" german battery out four of the six guns in the first 80 minutes and keeping the attention of the rest, allowing landing craft to proceed unmolested. By evening she had accounted for the other two guns.

"No stranger to controversy, Constitution experienced another episode when Assistant Secretary of the Navy Ernest Jahncke made comments doubting the ability of the modern US Navy to still sail a vessel of her type. Veterans groups from around the country had proposed that she should make the tour under sail, but due to the schedule of visits on her itinerary she was towed by the minesweeper Grebe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Grebe_(AM-43)). Nevertheless, she was recommissioned on 1 July 1931 under the command of Louis J. Gulliver with a crew of sixty officers and sailors, fifteen Marines, and their mascot, a pet monkey named Rosie. Setting out with much celebration and a 21-gun salute, the tour of 90 port cities along the Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific coasts began at Portsmouth, New Hampshire (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portsmouth,_New_Hampshire). She went as far north as Bar Harbor, Maine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_Harbor,_Maine), on the Atlantic coast, south through the Panama Canal Zone (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Canal_Zone), and north again to Bellingham, Washington (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellingham,_Washington), on the Pacific Coast. Constitution returned to her home port of Boston in May 1934 after more than 4.6 million people visited her during the three-year tour. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d7/Constitutionpanamacanal1932.pnghttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Constitution (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Constitution)

Reportedly some time before the ship became locked "in irons" the officers had debated whether to remove the commanding officer in order to turn to a safer course, but the executive officer refused to do so as there had never been a mutiny on a US Navy ship. This was the inspiration for Herman Wouk's The Caine Mutiny.
