...streched arms are a sign of a memory problem it seams.

- you may try disablening Shadow Improvement Mod and or use a different interrior mod (i use Naights Submaine Textures as it looks best for me and wont use to much of my memory)

- or and additional shorten the very long torpedo loading samples if using SDBSM additional crew sounds.

- i would also use the optional SDBSM remaing unmoded sounds converted to 22khz to spare additional a bit mem.

- if using a 32bit system, upgrade to 64bit and at least 4gb ram, patching sh5 exe to make it large address aware using the 4gb patch.

hmmm... no, the only thing that i know of is that i had the same problem using to much mem hungry mods, and your video mem seams to have at least 1gb, which is 512 more than vanilla need.

It seems that I have to bark the order to crash dive at least more than 3 times to have the crew comply . its almost I am not heard while using Mitons speech engine ,, Is there a bug of some sort ? iam sorry, iam not using Mitons speech engine, but i know that someone created a SD3 profile for SDBSM and be shure that there are many Kaleuns using SDBSM with SD3.

Maybe additional options in SD3 could help, like a customizeable timer for how long a key is pressed and how often a command is executed. At least and not only for the problem, a makro routine could help too.

SH5 seams to have some performance problems regarding its responsive behavior, like that there is only a short time window recognizing diving commands. It seams also that script and or code intensive mods like TDW new UI`s or and additional running a speech engine in the background putting additional stress in that area. This seams also connected of the sub`s wave sprite animations, they sooner tend to jiggle in that case i think.

If you have at least 4 cpu core`s, i would also experimenting with assigning task`s to cpu core`s directly, as i dont know how efficient SH5 work with more than 2 cores, or recognize 4 or more cores at all.

I am also relizing that the speech engine is learning my commands . Last nite I barked the order and it complied on the first try .. Funny .. Iam not quite sure to which file in the program will show the time specs for the command or speech engine to comply .. Is there a direct path that you know of that I can use to see whats under the hood concerning SD3 ? , and the proper files ? Thanks !

you can use a free soundeditor like goldwave to exchange its content or lower the volume til silence :smug:

not shure, but could be another reason for a CTD, the farts are triggered using the AI/CREW behavior scripts, you could remove them there.

Little Update:

Stormys DBSM SH5 v1.3 optional TDW UI 6.9.0 options files

...this is ment to keep things easy, a customised options file of TheDarkWraith`s New UI mod v. 6.9.0

It add compatibility regarding configuration with Stormy`s DBSM 1.3 collection.

it may be that you want to change something, currently it is set up with:

- SH3 Interface style. (recommended)
- hiding UI elemnts. (mouseover show, 5 sec hide timer)
- german text option. (very easy to change back to english)
- Emtguf`s scope usage.
- fitting recharge timer. (diesel startup sequence, recommended)
- Keyb. layout fitting with Commands.cfg of Stormy`s DBSM 1.3. (Church`s Keyb. layout extended)
- not to much TDW radio messages. (Sub sighting messages disabled by default)
- other things to my likings and fitting with Stormy`s DBSM 1.3.
- NEW included are also *.TDW dragable position files, solving window position problems like the TDW message window.
- NEW included altered TDW New UI`s Submarine cfg files, changing the dive dept to a unreachable dept using the "D" (dive command).
(I found it anoying, i mean dive stand for diving and not entering a pre defined dept, what if you are deeper than that old entry,
the boat would than surface to that dept while giving a dive order ???.)

...dont forget to migrade it using the TDW options migrator if installing a new version of TDW UI mod.

you know, the reason using the current keyb. layout was...

1. Usefull for SH3/4 veterans, much closer to it, the majority of the target user group was used to it.

2. More usefull with new additional modded key commands.

3. Not intended to be shooter friendly, this is a different genre.

...iam shure someone did allready a common "WASD" shooter`s housewive layout, he is very welcome to post it here :O:
...i know also that some keys are a bit unlucky at current, for example the hydrophone rotate keys.

Would it be possible for you to make a version of it where you didn't have to choose the "alt beard" faces? It's just that I'm old school and if I have to force my crew to dry shave with a rusty bayonet, I'll do it :DL

Hi Stormy I have question,I really appreciate your work,that is first that has to be said,and second is that i noticed "Stormy`s options files for NewUi`s 6.9.0 and SDBSM", I am using Trevally's configuration "My current mod list 03/02/12." (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=190656) and is it OK for me to just extract sub config files? I was very annoyed with that dive function so your patch put :D on my face.

ohh, i didnt got what your dive problems are...

the submarine.cfg files are based on TDW new UI`s 6.9.0 but solve a little problem:

some ppl think it would be good using the "D" dive command to reach a predefiened dept, like standing in an elevator pressing "P2" to reach park deck 2 :rotfl2:(more common for housewifes) ...if you have dived below that predefined dept and and press the dive command "D" the boat wont dive but surface. :o:doh:


...ithink that behavior is a no go, the dive "D" command should work as a dive command ! if "D" is pressed the boat simply dive until a level or surface command is given, including hull breach :D

the changes in the cfg files are set to an (allive) unreachable dept, making shure the boat will dive if the command is given (from any reachable dept).

On an unrelated issue (and point taken regarding the ice cream machines :DL ), I tried getting the clean-shaven faces to be, well, clean-shaven by adding the MFCM after your SDBM which, in retrospect, was a bit foolish seeing as how you specifically say not to in your instructions and since I knew that it would overwrite your scripts, which would defeat the whole purpose of loading SDBM in the first place. But, hey, idle hands and all that, not to mention that I had to confirm that it was SDBM that put beards on the faces of most of my crew. Confirmed :DL

Of course, I could have just asked, but what would be the fun in that?

Soooo... I pulled up MFCM and SDBM side by side to find out where they conflict, thinking that I could fix the problem myself and have your splendid mod AND the smooth faces. Surely I can't be all that helpless and God helps those who helps themselves, why should you have to do all the work for me and all that.

Except I was. I can't see any possible reason why your mod should add beards to my crew unless it's in the AI files somewhere, and that is WAY above my pay grade at this point.

I guess I'll either have to learn how to interpret those files or live with my bosun's goatee which, at least, isn't near as bad as having to live with the cook's fiddling. :DL

i wouldnt recommend that !

- OHII use a newer "sh.sdl" file which is based on SDBSM.
- TDW UI use special radio audio samples i created for TDW`s UI`s, they should overwrite SDBSM`s older radio samples.

- SDBSM`s optional TDW NEW UI`s config file after TDW NEW UI`s.

Is there a mod around that adds the sound of sinking merchants? I am hankering for the old death rattle sounds from Aces Of The Deep (ahhh... good times!)

...carefull with Sobers modlist, while his torture interrogation :arrgh!: he admit that he would use SDBSM sounds only, not the other "****" (scripts and so on) which is also comming with SDBSM :O::o

regarding the conflicting files, i answered allready above.

...the new "additional creak`s and noises" work parallel independent, as they sound more decent, they just fit better with the more real original SDBSM creaks.

edit: regarding death rattle sounds, there are sounds for that included in SDBSM, just make shure youre closer than 1000m to the sinking ship, but i must admit that iam searchig for a new one i created where i mixed also low frequency shot cranking sounds with it.

I've had no problems with SDBSM after NewUIs, but I certainly did have interesting results with it coming after OHII. And even MORE interesting results when placing MFCM and MCCD after SDBSM.

Part of the learning experience :haha:

It's all in the load order! Don't assume, when looking at our mod soups, that we're doing it "right", we may just not have figured out what we're doing wrong yet. Read the fine print in the mod documentation as well as go through the [REL] threads for them. That's where you'll find all the little "quirks". As new mods come out and old ones are changed, the readme files may no longer be current when it comes to what they might conflict with.

Oh, and Stormy, I'm still on cloud nine with my crew's fresh shaves. Thanks for the hints, not to mention yet another thing I've learned about how this favorite sim of ours is screwed together. I may actually one day become halfway competent at this :up:

I've at least now created my own personal "alt faces no beard" version of your great mod. Sure, Hackl und der Maschinisten (Palz?) still have theirs, they just refuse to shave, but it's OK. I can't imagine Johann without a beard anyways :03:

Thanks, I try. And yes, the MFCM is definitely awesome, wouldn't leave port without it, but your mod just adds that final... something that makes me able to close my eyes and almost think that I'm in the movie :up:

this sample was a bit to intensive, it also got repeated to much, i got many complains about Bernhard, so i exchanged it with a softer version.

4:59 "LI genau Tiefe halten" ("LI, hold the commanded dept exactly")
this sample plays if you command snorcel dept, i use it if periscope dept is to low for the OBS scope, mostly occours in rough seas.

the install order seams to be ok, except "DEUTSCHMOD_1.0.4" (it is overwriting my NewUI´s options file and keyb. layout)

i would recomment creating a mixed version of the options file if you know how, maybe using the keyb. layout from deutschomd for the commands.cfg and NEWUi`s options file but keeping the other settings in the options file.

you should also check the "F" and "SHIFT+F" keys, if you plan to use Rubini`s fix for MFCM crash dive fix SDBSM version (commanding crew up or down the tower).

yes i was after that long time ago, it is a known problem...

...there is only one command for battlestations which is toggleing it, there are no seperate commands for battlestations on or off.

but there are maybe 1 old and possible 1 new solution after what we have discovered so far:

1. dont use the key at all, use the weapons officer`s dialog menue.

2. connect the keystroke command with a script (as Rubini did for commanding the crew to go up or below the cunning tower), which can check if crew is on battlestions or not, then you can use the script to play the sounds accordingly. (maybe you just need to add a crew script, which have the exact name as the command).:arrgh!:

example:
if Wp:Isbattlestations() then or something similar.

Introducing my very modest contribution to the SDBSM collection:

The Gillette Patch v1.0 (http://www.gamefront.com/files/21445137/Gilette+patch+%28shave%29+for+Stormys+DBSM+.rar)

If you, like I, are using the Mighty Fine Crew mod with alt faces and no beards and have noticed a lack of discipline on part of your crew and their personal hygiene after installing SDBSM (and trust me, you DO need SDBSM and it's awesomeness to be truly happy!) help is at hand!

The Gillette Patch will promptly force those rapscallions in your crew to behave like proper officers and gentlemen and shave regularly. Well, except for Palz and Hackl, who apparently got a dispensation from Doenitz himself. Then again, they're kind of an odd pair to begin with, so it's probably for the best to leave them be :03:

The Gillette Patch consists of three different fixes for:

Basemod v1.3
Additional crew sounds beta6 (with or without the hotfix)
Additional creaks and noises 1.0

If you don't have all three of those, only install the patches for the ones you have and install them immediately after the original mods in your mod soup.

These three patches do nothing else so, as always, all credit for the REAL work goes to Stormy :salute:

I'm just the guy who sent the crew a box of razors.

Misha and I were talking about speech fixes and additions in one of his threads about something else. Rather than hijack that thread, I want to put my answer in here if you don't mind, since it fits better here, and we could use your confirmation anyways. :up:

Now that tells us that we don't even need speech fixes and additions, since his mod already takes care of that. With that in mind, next time I re-adjust my soup, I will deactivate speech fixes and additions.

Tried to find out this .ogg (New_message_received) and all of them are in German language. This problem is only with incoming msg. Other voices and sounds - fine :up:
My SHV version is multi lang - Polish - installed German voices. I tried to reload all mods - no results - this voices all the time backs to me :o ;) Two days ago I reinstalled the JSGME and deleted MODS folder and created again - installed in the SHV main folder.
Any idea for this strange voices?

Awesomeness, Stormy. I had the same problem as Kurtz but, since it was really only those messages from the radio operator, I decided that it wasn't that big of a deal. Now I know how to fix it! :yeah:

Not a chance, brother. It had been bugging me for a while but, since it's a very minor issue and I don't like to complain about the flavor of the free ice cream, our modding crews have more important tasks to deal with and I thought that it was just my particular mod soup that was to blame anyway, I just pretended that it was my radio guy, young Raabe, who had gotten so used to listening to intercepts in English that he'd occasionally speak it too :03:

Now if he'd been speaking French at me... Just kidding... :DL

Played few days - real and now is ok :) I`m still learning commands - actually I`m using mouse - double clicking on periscope depth and the U-boot going down to 11-12 meters :) When the F is pressed I can hear a little "chaos" - noices and voices - nice one - one of :yeah: I really like these sounds :) And the tubes... Shift+F1 and go on :yep:

Hey, I am quite new here and maybe I didn't saw it yet, but is there any way to change the controls back?I was pretty ok with the usual silent hunter 5 controls, and now I've to play with the arrow keys what doesn't make fun at all (W, A, S, D doesn't work anymore) :doh:

Otherwise, this mod is just awesome, it makes the game way more intense :)

Currently the game only uses the one "Torpedo tube opening.wav" file for both open and close effect.
I converted Sound Samples to OGG format then edited my data\Cfg\Commands.cfg file to have one sound sample for Opening effect and another for Closing effect.
I placed the new OGG files in the data\Sound\Speech\ChiefEngineer\Normal - Tension - Whisper folders.

Then installed the

All the other mods in my list are installed furthermore

Now i haven´t a sound for flouding the tube and the worst no sound by firing the torp:wah:

And btw, is it possible that the sounds causes ctds with unfavorable modcompilation, when you hit one or sink a ship :hmmm:

What was Game Date and what type Torpedo did you fire when you got CTD.:06:

I have noticed during my game play that if you sink non mission essential ship with a T-IX Electric Acoustic Homing Torpedo prior to 1942 it can some times cause a CTD.

Moin beast,

it was the holy 25th of december 1939, North Western Approaches, Queen Mary on the spot with ca. 10 attendants and firing a torpedo salvo 2 ones type T1 GTa with contact pistol.

Another issue, btw, the secondary mission for Nothwestern Approaches i get in the bunker was scapa:hmmm:, but scapa already finished 2 month before:rock:

oh its just an options file using my personal taste of TDW New UI`s settings but in conjunction with nessesary entry`s for SDBSM features like battery reloading timer settings to enjoy SDBSM`s diesel startup procedure or keyborad layout compatibility and so on...

...it can be used as a base config file while migrating it to the last NewUi´s version using TDW options migrator and fine tune it later for each personal taste without having to worry that a important SDBSM setting is missing then.

I press scape and the sound continues until I enter again in the periscope. In SH5 with no mods I have the same problem but I install the new ui's and all works fine except when I install your mod.

After all, this is just a suggestion and I'll try this out myself later today :yep:

Another suggestion - to create a new mod list order based on an existing one - the most convenient way is to edit the existing .mep file rather than loading all mods in a new order in JSGME.
As long as all mods are present in the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS folder that is.
When you've edited an existing .mep file - remember to give the edited file a new name so you don't overwrite the existing one.
When saving the new edited mod list - save it in the correct format. NOT .txt :up:

And - in my suggestion the MightyFine Crew Mod 1.2.1 Alt faces and the MCCD_1.04_MFCM_1.2.1_compatible, are placed before all the DBSM.

This mod is the best sound mod i tried so far :sunny:

But...i found out some of the data/sound/files couldn't be played on my PC, and furthermore giving me errors when trying to read them.
It was dirctly related to my CTDs when selecting torpedo tube and/or open tube.

So i replaced those broken sounds files one by one (mainly in TDC part) by stock SH5 ones, and CTDs are gone:up:

Don't know if it's coming from corrupted download, or if it's coming from my PC sound card...:06:

Well, i didn't get CTD each time i clicked torpedo selection or open tube, but only sometime...it seems it was kind of random.
Maybe my PC is more sensible to this than yours :yep:
But now i'm sure it was related to this reading problem, cause since 2 full days i don't have CTD anymore.

Little note: since i replaced those files with stock one, i can now hear the little "clic" sound when selecting something :) and same little "clic" sound when turning my periscope for each degree.

Hi all

A small fix mayb this what i did i am no sound enginer:shifty:

1, i downloaded Audacity
2, i then copy the above sound files from Stormy`s DBSM collection
to my desktop
3, inported one file in to Audacity to see if i could here it, which i could :huh:
4, i then exported it to a new folder on desktop, i did not change eventhink
so i repeated it for the ever files, Now this is the funny bit they now play back in Windows Media Player :rock:
4 So i copy the new files over the top of old one in Stormy`s DBSM collection ,

Now all works:yeah: But and Yes they is always a but the
HUD_Click file as no wave in it:nope: its just a flat line

hi all,

seams that some systems have problems playing very short compressed wave files... damn iam supprised that this problem made it to the surface now after so much time. :arrgh!:

i will have a look on it... and for the meantime, i am shure affected skippers can live with the solutions allready present here.

...as for the HUD Click sound, it is silented because i dint liked it at all.

actually i have the 1.15 version of silent hunter 5 and i have these problems
first the torpedo propelers are not moving...second the engine explosion deck gun firing and shell impact are gone....no matter what settings i have....and when i try to install the 1.5 update it says that there is no istalled game!!!

I've been working on this all day, and it's now late in the evening and
I'm pulling my hair out. I desperately want to use this mod after seeing how good it is. SH5 seems dead without it.

If someone can tell me how to stop it crashing to desktop everytime I hit
the Periscope depth icon on TDW's UI, that's when it crashes to desktop. I gather it will do it with any other of those ui icons.. crew icons work fine (Das Boot).

Also, I like the key mapping arrangement of the default (movement keys asdw). I found the commands.cfg n gather it's in there, but don't know what to change.

I reinstalled DirectX, didn't help (game did have an issue installing that when I reinstalled to add german voices) but it's in fine now.

Thanks for the reply... I just tried that, n after reorganising
my mods, it didn't help :(

I'm still getting CTD's any time I press any key or menu icon that
controls depth. Also, still the depth guage numbers and dashes are
missing when pressing Cntrl. Also if u use the button to view it.

[Edit] OK, now I know there's something up with DBSM mod, because I just uninstalled
all mods using JSGME, then just installed ONLY:

So only way I can use this mod is not to play. :(

What can give you CTDs is also your default media player.
Mine was by default Windows Media Player, and it couldn't read some of Stormfly's sounds files in the base mod :yep:
I downloaded VLC media player, and allowed for it to be the default one on my PC ---> no more random CTDs!
It's worth a try, because Stormys DBSM is THE sound mod imo :up:

I did what you suggested. I also replaced the media player from windows
default to VLC Media player. I removed those mods you suggested Trevally,
and started a new campaign.

It didn't work, it crashed again as soon as I pressed Periscope depth. sigh :(

It's not the computer, it can handle any game on max, especially since I'm running Windows 7 Pro, with 32gb ram. Should be more than enough memory to handle any mod.

I hope stormy can come up with something, because I love this mod, it creates everything I've ever wanted for the interior of the sub. But, I won't give up! I'll find a way, or hopefully someone can suggest something else to try?

Ahhhhh I found it :D:D:D

It was because I didn't have these two mods:

Mightfine Crew Mod
MCD_1.04_MFCM_1.2.1_compatible mod

Put those in, in the right order and now it works fine :D

Now one question about commands.

I don 't like using arrow keys for movement, and would like to
change it back to ASDW, so I was wondering how I can do that?
I'm guessing it's changing something in commands.cfg???
Obviously it would involve changing the movement keys from
arrow keys to ASDW, plus also moving the key's now used as ASDW
to something else. D is dive, W is cycle tubes, S is surface and
not sure what A is used for atm.

Since the commands.cfg key mapping method is unfamilar to me
I'm hoping someone can post an example for me to cut n paste in :) please??? :)

Stormy, I love your DBSM mod, it creates such great
immersion in game.

Now I don't speak german, and it's a bit frustrating
not being able to understand some of the things ppl
are saying. I do have english text, so I can understand
important stuff.

Hi! First want to say that this truly is an amazing mod, that really add alot to the atmosphere of the game! :salute:

But is there any way to alter the keybindings introduced in the mod? I want to be able to move around with the WASD keys, for example. I have altered the "Commands" file in data/cfg but nothing happened.

Stormys_DBSM_SH5_v1.3.rar was downloading fine from gamefront listed at post #1. Using Firefox browser. Check gamefront site, some countries have limits to what you can download.

I had no issues with the downloads either. My biggest issue was that when i installed these my controlls got completely mixed up, most importantly player movement went from WASD to arrow keys!

IIRC there is an optional mod in the SDBSM collection that changes controls.. so, for get standard controls back you need just disable this optional mod or just remove commands.cfg from this mod..

i realy cant recommend removing commands.cfg, as many entrys in it are responsible for playing special sounds, again again and again and ones again there are instructions in the readme and 1st post how to handle that if you want to alter the keys.

As someone mentioned here before, there is some problems with the download links. I can get to gamefront but pressing the download links there does nothing, maybe it's just gamefront servers that is acting up. "armedassualt" seem to be completely down. I'll try tomorrow again!

Most of the gamefront files has localized download restrictions. Try with US ip, for example with the earlier mentioned firefox app. Sometimes still having timeout error but basically its working with that way!

It's easy. You install WOS first, and Stormy's mod second. It's a sound mod, do it affects nothing but the sound files. Easy as pie.

Vecko commented on this a while ago about what you need to do to make this compatible with TWOS.
I have not seen any adverse comments posted back so maybe it worked ok.
You may need to go back a month or two to find the post.

well, SDBSM is made of modded sound effects and speech files, a different keyboard layout and some other important bugfixes too. i think i didnt included much music, its music isnt important.

sh.sdl file is some kind of imporatant as it have many corrected sound volume entrys and range adjustings, same for the modded keyb. file as it also is responsible for playing some additional sounds. (btw, it is very easy extracting all those settings)

...as many wanted it, ive allready created a new "WASD" version of the keyb. layout file, i will upload it as soon as i get the new domain name from the hoster regarding the broken dl links.

Thanks Peter, I have made some tests, I did what you said and I also removed the keyboard command settings, and everything else except the script and sound folder. I did also add the beta6 files without the sh.sdl. The mod works great in TWoS 2.1.0 and is really awesome :up:

Stormy's and Church's keyboards are the same as far as I can tell.
What I do not like in the default keyboard used in TWOS is the W-A-S-D keys to move around when in the maps you use the arrow keys.

Stormy's and Church's only use the arrow keys so for me I just add Church's keyboard to my TWOS mods.

One big advantage with both keyboards especially if you are playing 100% realistically is the use of the Z key which the Soundman will give you sonar bearing in the message box evertytime you press it.

One thing you will need to do is sort out the doubling up of keyboard commands which clash, so you will need to re-program some of the OFEV patches to overcome this.

You will not be able to use the C key for the compass as you will crash dive.
Click on the middle of the bar compass to open the compass dial,

F3 replaces the M map key.
F8 use the Chief Engineer icon for Silent Running.
In the OFEV use the F key for Radio Messages otherwise the I key will give you both Radio Messages and Torpedo Load.
Use the K key for your Message Box.
The T key doubles up for the Teleporting Bar and also the Radio.
Use the Y key for your Teleporting Bar.
Shift + X doubles up Follow Warship and Remove Navigation Marks.
Use Shift + S to Remove Navigation Marks.
Remember the C key is crash dive only.

Stormy's Mod changes a number of keybindings including W-A-S-D which are replaced by the arrow keys.
This actually makes sense because the maps are moved by the arrow keys anyway.
If you have TDW's Options File Editor Viewer installed you will also notice a number of duplicated functions which can be changed by allocating different keys.
There is more information in my tutorials.

Hey guys I have a question about this mod. I am interested in using it. I do use TWoS.

Now I think it is more than just removing the sdl file correct?

I dont want to change the keybindings, I just want the sound and speech. is that possible?

I read THEBERBSTER stuff on it, but it seems I would have to change keybindings? am I correct?

If you want to keep original TWOS keybindings, you should delete Stormy Cfg/Commands too, i think.
