When im try to add my converted ship from other game Its only Revolution class that can be added to sh 3 and im try to add SMS Deutschland Pre dreadnought And SMS Nassau. so its always Crashing when in gonna see to museum and now im try to add Ship to campaign to make it appears in carrer Its say in sh3 Mission editor [The Unit Class SMS Deutschland.SMS Nassau from Country german not found in the platforms library Are you any idea guys :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up::Kaleun_Cheers:

SMS Deutschland.SMS should be the name specified inside a .cfg file into data\roster\german\sea folder, right?

[UnitClass]
ClassName=SMS Deutschland.SMS
UnitType=*number*

Now, into data\sea folder you should have your ship's folder, and inside another .cfg file with those lines:

[Unit]
ClassName=SMS Deutschland.SMS
UnitType=*number*

The Unit Class XXX from Country XXX not found in the platforms library is an error that usually appear when there are differences between ClassName or UnitType from the roster file to the ship's folder file.
They should be identical, not similar.

Also, i suggest you to replace empty spaces into names with underscore (_) character, like SMS_Deutschland.SMS

:doh: Try to check a little the *.zon file, if the ship can take too much damage, or the library with the gun you select for the ship, if the guns are too effective...

You can edit both with 3Ditor.

Yep, first of all you need an *.obj file for every part of the ship, in order to import them.
You'll need separated parts for main hull and superstructures, rudder, propellers, masts, funnels, lifeboats, etc, plus guns if you'll not use standard library files.
Open another ship with 3Ditor in order to see the parts you'll need :up:

After created a node, go to linked 3D model and add the material \ tga of your model (if you've created materials; if now, we will see this after).
Next step, right click on the node, and point "append new child chunk"; a menu will appear, left click on "3D Model (1\101)"
Now the "3D model container" will appear under the node. Select it, and on the right you'll find the "import" command, who will allow you to import your *.obj file.

From the import menu, after you're allowed to choose the file, i suggest you to select "Optimize texture coordinates", "collapse subobjects in a single mesh", "use materials", "load .OBJ files", and the name of your obj.
Sometimes "import vertex normals" could be usefull for a better render of the model, but not always. Try this with experiments.

Welcome back!
Nice model.

I can suggest you those parts:

- Main hull with superstructures, without details
- Details
- Portholes if 3d modeled
- Funnel 1
- Funnel 2
- Crane 1
- Crane 2
- First mast
- Second mast
- Rudder
- Propeller (you just need one if they're all identical)
- One model for every type of boat
- One model for every type of turret \ gun with only rotating parts
- One model for every type of turret \ gun with barrles \ elevating parts

Textures just need to be converted in *.tga format, i guess.

I think one can change smoke easy.
I just looked for a ship with similar funnel position and copy the smoke Id from there in .sim
I think it works this way

... and the date and time of the mis file you create, versus the date and time of the entry of the ship(s) you are using. Many ships & planes in the game default to using 19380101 0000 as the date and time of entry. If your mission is for 1942, you may never see what you added...

Thank you for replying. I am trying to add them to the campaign, specifically to the Campaign_RND.mis layer. Does that make a difference?



The ships are Swedish DD Sauro and TB Spica. The date in campaign is June 1942 so both ships should be within there historical range.

You're welcome!
Well, i usually script ships using Campaign_SCR, so i'm sure about meet them.

The RND file is, as name suggest, the "random" part of the campaign.
If i well remember, you should be sure to include the SPECIFIC units (not generic\types) with SpawnProbability=100, or they will be spawned only sometimes...

1942 should be ok.

The models are very well done. They look like models from a modern game, not a game from 2005.


Are there any alternate skins? I am pretty sure the Swedish navy did not have those Regia Marina red and white stripes.

If you want to add those skin randomly, just add those files into ship's folder, where others .tga files are.
If you want to use ONLY those skins, delete all the skins (T01 to T08 into both ship's folders) rename the last part of the new texture's name T01 instead T09, and put them in the ship's folders.

I salute you, Stefan Timmer, Sphere, Japlance and your other gifted partners on your wonderful ship mods. They are truly amazing.

Can I mod these italian navy ships into NYGM without problems? Is there a technical reason why they arent already modded into nygm. It would make Mediterranean campaign so much more realistic.

Second question, can I remove some of the T01.tga T02.tga files from the data/Sea folder of the mod if I wanted a lighter install package? Is there a way to use the skins separately with say JSGME. How do the skins work?

My apologies if these questions have been answered in this or another thread.

They are already if you play my NYGM enhanced (but not 100% of them)
If you plan to add ships, the zones in zone.dat must correspond to the ones existing in zones.Cfg of NYGM !

As Fifi said. They're compatible with almost everithing out here, using their own library (they're always tested on Vanilla and GWX Gold, for reference), but some with some megamods you could need some small adaptations...
The technical reasion, btw, i can only guess, is related with use of memory. More ship you add, more memory you use, and, with a 32 bit program like SH3, you have to make some choices.

Second question, can I remove some of the T01.tga T02.tga files from the data/Sea folder of the mod if I wanted a lighter install package?

Yep, but you need to rename the remaining textures in order to have a new T01 etc. Game engine just read progressive numbers. If you've, for example, T01, T02, T04, T05 and T06, only T01 and T02 will be used!

Is there a way to use the skins separately with say JSGME. How do the skins work?

With JSGME idk. With SH3 commander, using folder by time you can assign a specific skin to a specific time of the war. Another way, if you want, for example, a specific cruiser of a class, and you've only a generic member of the class with textures for every member, is clone the unit and assign him a specific roster name. But this will use memory and address.

Thank you for your quick response VonDos and Fifi. I haven't tried Fifi's NYGM enhanced because I am presently using an 11 year old laptop with integrated graphics and 5400rpm platter so I suspect some of those enhancements might strain the poor computer .. but it looks like its going to save me all this work I was about to get into. I appreciate your help!

The best way would be probably to delete this all dark blue scheme from the package. I guess it will be difficult to have just one texture for the gun of this one. That mean that we must make same thing for all the over ships as this gun is used on another units. I must say that usually I'm focus on those details, but I've forgotten this problem on this scheme. PS @flush deck and @Mister_M, thanks a lot. Well, i like the "all blue" scheme too... I guess everyone doesn't like the effect will delete it, but for me is good too. Times ago i studied the idea to have library object who change colors in order to adapt to ship's multiskin textures. Result give us, for example, the A\A supports for Soldati, Navigatori, Poeti and Dardo classes italian destroyers, who are included into specific library files. I guess the idea of have similar variable guns outside the dat will work in similar way, but will require more study btw (add guns in every dat\sim\zon etc could eat a lot of memory, i guess, i remember a similar work in latest the_frog work, with great results i must say). Maybe in future... :P

The best way would be probably to delete this all dark blue scheme from the package. I guess it will be difficult to have just one texture for the gun of this one. That mean that we must make same thing for all the over ships as this gun is used on another units. I must say that usually I'm focus on those details, but I've forgotten this problem on this scheme. Yes, it's strange to see a ship all painted in blue but with grey turrets...

The solution could be this one :

1. You reserve a place on the ship's texture for the turret's texture.
2. You re-do the uv-mapping of the turret 3D model.
3. You add the turrets directly in the ship.dat (no more need of special entries in the guns library file and in the ship.eqp file), linked to the same texture as the ship's texture.
4. Of course, you add some proper nodes in the ship.sim file for the turrets to work properly.

This can work if you want to have different textures for the same gun mounted on different ship classes. And it doesn't take much memory. You have to duplicate the guns and link each of them to a different texture. No need to duplicate the 3D models, you can just link the ID number of the 3D model you want to duplicate...

i remember a similar work in latest the_frog work, with great results i must say).

Yes, me too, it was a british cruiser, maybe the Town class, with more than 10 camo skins. The effect is stunning ! I think the_frog used the method that I've described a few lines above.

I've done it for SH4 with the ships in the MFM, removing the gun platforms from the main ship 3D models and adding them in a library. That library object takes the texture from the main ship hull, so it fits with the rest of the ship.

Yep, i read. As said, this will require some study, whatever is the best way to do it. I know your way is correct, and i guess JapLance's one is correct too (this is the one i used in the past, as said, for other uses.
At moment i'm a little busy with new models, but, again, i'm not ruling out this feature for the future :yep:

In fact, it would be easy to test the idea (turret's texture included in the ship's texture) without having to redo all the textures of every ship carrying the same turret. Indeed, you just have to duplicate the turret in the library files. So, for one turret (base + cradle + barrel), you have to add :
+ 6 ID for the .dat file (node + 3D model for each part of the gun)
+ 1 ID for the .sim file
+ 1 ID for the .zon file

The biggest work is to modify the texture of the ship and to redo the uv-map of the 3D models. And I understand that you and Flushdeck don't want to do this work, only because the "all blue" texture needs blue turrets...


That's why it's important to keep this in mind before doing the texture work.

Maybe for the next ship? Well, maybe not honestly. All the work we're doing, in my opinion, is in order to "homogenise" various Kriegsmarine (an other nation's) warships, and assure a standard quality level for all of them. Introduce new features on a group of ships only will create different standards in the same fleet. So, if this turret's features will be implemented, will interest ALL the Regia Marina and Kriegsmarine ships. And will not be this year (or next one, i guess).
Kriegsmarine's ship includes a main new features,in comparison to Regia Marina units, moving radar and rangefinders. This is a thing i'm interested to fix too, and will require some time too (not too much, is just a library question), maybe when Kriegsmarine and Royal Navy fleets will be completed.

This question is far more complex, and i'm easily bored from copy-paste info, controllers, 3dmodel etc... This is just my opinion, btw.
Again, if someone will be interested in implement this feature, certainly his work will be included, gladly, and with credits!!

Oh, HNLMS De Ruyter, i really love this ship, she always remembererd me a kind of "small" Graf Spee version!
Years ago i found an old model and i've reworked it a little, it still working in my installation:

Too many polygons, you have to separate the model into several parts (let's call them "3D meshes") and import them into different nodes. Take note that only the 3D mesh contained in the main node (or "root" node) will show some damage textures when a shell or a torpedo explodes on the ship. So, choose carefully the polygons for the main 3D mesh (only large surfaces).

I'd say this could be a problem with the normals of the 3D model. Invert them in the polygons that appear transparent in S3D and reload it.

Yes.

The duffuse texture needs to add brightness and contrast. And if the AO-map is too dark, it also needs to be lightened.

Good. For lifeboats plane etc you need to add them damage boxes and spheres, like with the command deck before.

I've done it for SH4 with the ships in the MFM, removing the gun platforms from the main ship 3D models and adding them in a library. That library object takes the texture from the main ship hull, so it fits with the rest of the ship.

So there's a big chance that if it works in SH4, it can be done in SH3.

Here an interesting remark:

The models of the large weapons have been incorporated into the *.dat files.

Actually, some weapons of the original SH3 models used the textures of the ships (by refering to the "normal" / "complete" textures). With most "normal" textures being changed for multi texture use, this didn't work anymore and caused CTDs. The respective guns were then re-mapped to use the turele.tga.

I'll only create the AI unit, but i know someone is interested in make the playable one, just matter of time :yep:
The guns below the deck, in AI version, can shoot. And belive me, they do...
Torpedo launchers can rotate too in order to engage the target unit.

Awesome. If those torpedo tubes can swivel and launch fish it'd be a crying shame if someone doesn't mod it into a playable unit. I recommend the boat should get lots of skin packs to simulate disguises. I'm currently playing Chinese U-47's wsm2.0, my GeAux is flying a Greek flag right now. I'm testing some edits to AI_sensorDAT to lower enemy detection range to model a successful disguise. Unfortunately there are no skins to be found anywhere for my Raider. I tried to swap in tgas from the ClassName=KGN (large merchant) in nygm which is moded off the GeAuxCruiser in stock but it isnt working, maybe because of the deleted seaplane.
@itadriver if you see this, skin packs with false flags for commerce raiders por favor

They can swivel for sure and point the enemy units, but can't launch torpedoes in AI, sorry.

Well, in reality the ship began to be built, but she was never completed. She was launched as an heavy cruiser (the Seydlitz, Hipper class), but when 95% completed she was selected for conversion into auxiliary aircraft carriers in early 1942. So, she changed her name in "Weser":

Not find now, but read any english document where was say, that 11 june 1942 year this cruiser was sunk by mine near Tallin. And have superstructure above water only. Not say that was document was, so forget now. Write in himself research only. May be find this docu,ment later and write what was in it.

The ship was laid down in December 1936 and launched in January 1939, but the outbreak of World War II slowed her construction and fitting-out work was finally stopped in the summer of 1940 when she was approximately 95 percent complete. The unfinished ship remained pier-side in the shipyard until March 1942, when the Kriegsmarine decided to pursue aircraft carriers over surface combatants. Seydlitz was among the vessels chosen for conversion into auxiliary aircraft carriers.

I've also found pics of ship partially completed, with superstructures partially assembled and without superstructures during conversion.
Interesting trivia btw.

Meanwhile, works are in progres with auxiliary cruiser \ commerce raider Komet too.

VonDos не обижайся на мои слова про разные истории - это правда. И про то, что я рассказал как всё было на самом деле тоже не обижайся на меня. То, что читают в учебниках истории и рассказах историков для толпы - это только официоз: каждая власть каждой страны считает что она решает какую именно историю должен знать её народ - ту историю и пишет. А сами власти считают нужным знать реальную историю. В том числе и по действиям подводных лодок (это моё исследование). И вот 30 сентября с из Германии скачал примерно 30 гигабайт архива с отчётами германских надводных кораблей всех классов 2 мировой войны. Это всё высококачественные сканы германских документов различных боевых кораблей и катеров. Примерно 4-5 тысяч страниц сканированных документов. И получил абсолютно бесплатно. Все германские документы надводных кораблей, что были отсканированы уже.

VonDos не обижайся на мои слова про разные истории - это правда. И про то, что я рассказал как всё было на самом деле тоже не обижайся на меня. То, что читают в учебниках истории и рассказах историков для толпы - это только официоз: каждая власть каждой страны считает что она решает какую именно историю должен знать её народ - ту историю и пишет. А сами власти считают нужным знать реальную историю. В том числе и по действиям подводных лодок (это моё исследование). И вот 30 сентября с из Германии скачал примерно 30 гигабайт архива с отчётами германских надводных кораблей всех классов 2 мировой войны. Это всё высококачественные сканы германских документов различных боевых кораблей и катеров. Примерно 4-5 тысяч страниц сканированных документов. И получил абсолютно бесплатно. Все германские документы надводных кораблей, что были отсканированы уже.

Hi everyone!!

This evening, an update for all WIP with pre-release posters, thanks to efforts by Flush deck, the great textures artist who made those great skins for my latest models :salute:

1) Hipper, Blucher and Prinz Eugen will now have a new set of textures for decks, with new, more detailed "shadow" effects, and a reworked UVMap for them.

2) Unfinished carrier Weser (ex Hipper class "Seydlitz" cruiser) is near to release! She will be dressed with 3 different paint schemes, 1 gray, 2 camo:

3) Pinguin auxiliary cruiser also is now almost ready! Some iconic dresses for her also.

Also, another large WIP is under works, but the name of the unit is a reserved info for now.

If i well remember, an I400 converted from SH4 by miner1436 and a "Pamir" Flying P-Liner by nautilus42 are avaiable somewhere, ready for sh3 :03:

I know Patreon, but i prefere to stay on SubSim with all contents free for everyone in the community. This is something i do in my free time.
Also, most of the units are also based on someone other work, or are realized with someone help, this is "VonDos AND COMPANY" shipyard, after all, so i think it would be a little unfair gain money on their free work!

Note, this unit is not intended to show a single historical unit, i'ts largely modelled on one specific ship, but i'd like to use her in order to "impersonate" a large kind of ships, so some details can be a little "generic".

It's a little big. They also had some different roles. Both were used like escorts and A\A, but our mistery ship was also used for something other...
