I want to replace the sound file that comes with crash diving, the ALARM one, with the original one from Das Boot (I have that sound file already).

I think you're referring to the 'ChE_K_Crash_dive.ogg' files. If so, they're found in the SH3\data\Sound\Speech\1[to]9 folders.

If you want to replace them, you'll have to swap out all nine as they use different voices for the same effect. It should be a simply case of copy, paste and rename files unless you want to install them via a JSGME mod.

For the latter, simply create a new folder named Das Boot Alarm, (or what have you), and then set up the following directory structure inside.

First would be a 'data' folder and then inside it a 'Sound' folder and inside that a 'Speech' folder containing nine folders labeled '1 to 9.' Finally place a copy of your new file inside each of the nine numbered folders and rename them to 'ChE_K_Crash_dive.ogg.'

Last but not least, enable the new mod via JSGME and you should be good to go. Good luck! :sunny:

I can't seem to get this mod (3.2) to work with FM's New Interior and DD OH.

I tried installing it after, and the hatch wouldn't open. I tried installing it before, and I don't get the engine startup. No response from the crew to the order, and no engine sounds. There are no engine sounds when I order engines ahead either.

Aaaaargh. :down::arrgh!:

Find Data/Sound/amb_SubmarineInterior.wav.

Rename it Data/Sound/amb_SubmarineInterior.bak.

That should do it.

This is a wonderful sound pack and I quite enjoy it. Tip my hat to the hard work that must have gone into it.

Only question is, does anyone know if it is possible to decrease the amount of creaking sounds for when you dive deep?

Look in data/Menu/en_menu using notepad or a similar text editor at items numbered 1998 - 2029 & 2760 - 2774. I think these are what you are looking for.

I just recently dusted off SH3 again and am trying to get all my old mods set up.

I am having trouble with Thomsens Sound Pack V3.2cg

What OS are you using? Different than before? or is this the same install. I ask because I had this problem in Win 10. Set the exe to run in compatibility mode for WinXP and the problem disappeared. Just something to try. I have the sound pack running with no problems.

Good call, it is a different install! Win10 no less!

I switched the EXE compat to WinXP SP2. I'll give that a shot and let you know how it worked in a minute.

hey all, newb lurker here in need of some help.

I'm having a tough time getting this to work, I follow the directions download it to my mods folder and enable it with JSGME but I get nothing when I start a patrol, just the original sounds.

Hello mate,

I think your problem comes from a common error : check in the MODS folder (in SH3 folder), that when you open your Thomson folder, you have to find directly the data folder, in which there is the sound folder, in which there are the sound files.

Also, you have to unzip the Thomson folder before adding it in the MODS folder.

Then, don't forget to re-enable the Thomson mod with JSGME.

Well, the mod seems to work, but there are over 40 types of 'creak n groan, there which I never seem to hear as I go deeper and deeper.......I just get files 11 to 15 which are in the original SH3. I tried deleting them to see if the others would appear but then I got no creaking sounds as I went deeper. Anyone know how to get all those great 'creaks n groans' of the hull under pressure into my game....?

The Problem when deleting files if they are default. And they are gone you have to reinstall to get them back. The extra creaks and groans are definitely depth related. You have to dive very deep to hear them. If your Boat can take the depth ( deeper than 200 meters ) also there is an extra file that makes them work with the extension .dsd that has to be in there.

The next time you reinstall, make a copy of clean SH3. That'll help mitigate problems if you ever need to go back to a fresh copy.

Hi all!
I have just downloaded version 3.2 of this mod and am looking forward to trying it out.

The problem is, I also have GWX 3 and I want to enable "Integrated Orders" but I get an error when trying to enable it via JSGME:

"Commands_en.cfg" has already been altered by the "Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg" mod.


Is it okay to enable Integrated Orders (which greys out the sound pack)? I am guessing this means I will have all the new sounds apart from the one file that IO replaces, is that correct?

I would very much like to use IO, but I also want the new sounds, can someone help me please? :)

In my experience no.
It messes with the Eprobungstelle test mission.
Your test mission starts in Stralsund but your boat is thousands of miles away in the Pacific Ocean.
It may work if you enable it after the test mission, so may be worth trying that.

How much is a litle Time Compression?
When the mod is disabled do you still get the problem in the same circumstances?
Have you checked your frame rate?
Does your mouse seize so you cannot use it when this happens?
What other mods are you using?

Sound getting stuck has to do with the length of the sound file.
SH3 doesn't like long sound files, and we do.

Will attempt to fix this for the next version.

Okay new problem When Only surfaced and inside the submarine engines just screamss Its scream so loud what it makes me deaf but when on Watch tower everything is fine just normal working engine. Its hard to explain here I made a video of the problem

Had the same issue a while back. I fixed it by removing Aces' Combined SH3.SDL along with some of the conflicting sdl mods it was designed to merge. In the end i settled on the mod i wanted most and threw the others in the garbage so that i no longer needed ace's combined mod.

NOTE:
I'm not saying his mod is the culprit. It could have been one of the other sdl mods. But since there was really only one that i cared about, it was easier to just dump them then try to figure out which one was the problem.

I got another problem with the mod.
I can't hear the Diesel at all.
Neither from the outside or in the boat.
What I hear is the sound of the electric engines.
I am using the following mods: Living Silent Hunter III 2015.
Historical Messages, which is in the modpack of Living Silent Hunter and that's pretty much it, despite a Watermod.
Also the game keeps crashing ocasionaly with the soundmod.

Maybe you guys can help me out.

I have not heard of having ctd's with this mod.
It must be realized that this mod is not designed to be used with LSH3-2015 so some functions may not work properly.
It should be added last in JSGME.

But I think Living Silent Hunter is dead to me.
The game crashes about 60% of the time I try to start a mission and i cannot load saved missions. I created a fresh carrer, saved mid patrol, wanted to load it and I crash to the desktop. But this is something for the Living Silent Hunter thread.

You have the classic incompatible Windows problem.
Windows 10 does not like SH3
Go to my tutorials and you will get all the instruction you need to get your game up and running successfully.

I did some editing to the amb_SubmarineInterior file .
The file is made up of two mono files, amb_SubmarineInterior1 and amb_SubmarineInterior2 merged together into a stereo file, both of them are found within the mod, one is more of an ambient sound , the other is with sound from Das Boot ( a very nice file except that after some time , many lines from the movie will begin to feel out of place ) .
Now, the ambient one has three small "errors" , especially annoying if you play with German voices . At some point some one is saying in English : " Stand-by to take a reading" , at some other point a quick "Easy!" and at some other point : " Easy, both planes zero " . Otherwise, there are no "clear" voices in the ambient file, only some faded background ones .
Since that was bothering me i edited those eight seconds out and i also edited them out of the main amb_SubmarineInterior file ( plus a minor 1 sec editing at the beginning ) , you can download the edited files from here (the Edited Thomsen file ) :

Now, i also did some other editing to the Das Boot file, i removed all the conversation that was out of place and i only left some minor stuff ( general background voices,whispers, nodding and stuff like that ) . I increased the length of the edited track by replaying some of its portions , it was needed in order for the file to have the same length as the other one, the more ambient one. At the end i merged both files into a stereo file , its basically the same as the original one from the main mod but without the "immersion-breaking" Das Boot portions of conversation, i'm quite happy with the result since the voices are non-obtrusive . If you are interested, you will find it in the same archive under the name NEWamb_SubmarineInterior , if you want to use it in your game just remove the NEW from the name and replace the one from your data/sound folder with this one .

Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg Adapted for LSH3-2015
This simple adaption by removing the en-menu text file will make it compatible when using the LSH3-2015_GUI_WIDESCREEN mod and place your U-Boat in the correct Dock when using test missions.

Open the Zip file.
Copy and paste the folder you see to your JSGME MODS folder.
Place last in the Enabled Mods.
Enable and wait for the mod to load as it will take a bit of time so be patient.
Accept Yes to over ride other mods.

Howdy.

I've been playing around with this pack a bit and it's definitely one of my favorite mods for SH3, however, this pack has some glaring issues that, in the end, make it almost unusable for me.

As others have mentioned, using any time compression most of the time causes sounds to repeat over and over for forever. Anything from the sub ambient interior sound repeats, which can be quite immersion-breaking when you're standing on the bridge and can still hear the sounds of the interior of your sub's command room. However, if time compressing underwater, very annoying sounds such as cranks and valve sounds start to repeat over and over as well.

This is the only problem I have with this pack, and as a result, I just cannot really use it. If anyone has a fix or if Thomsen is looking to fix it in a next release, I would be happy as a clam. Thanks.

After unzipping the "ThomsenSoundPackV3.2cg" file, inside the new unzipped folder, I find the "date" folder and another two zipped files "RadioMessage - MorseCodeOnly" and "RadioMessage - TypewritterOnly.rar"

Pls explain me, how can I install properly this mod?
I must unzipp this files too? Or it is optional or what?


If you've already answered this question, it's hard to see 30 pages with many comments, pls help me!

I just installed this, and I don't know if I have a conflict with other mods, or what.

I have always hit the numpad Enter key to drop back down into 1x normal time. That key still works, but after installing this sound pack a voice also says "Solution ready, sir"

I found this line in commands_en.cfg, in the Thomsen sound mod:

I've noticed that the en_menu.txt file in the mod omits the line
"765=Königsberg"
Resulting in that port breaking.
Replacing the line seems to fix it.

Good evening,

A real newbie when it comes to Mods so am hoping someone can help me out.

I've downloaded Thomsen's v3.2 and am trying to use it with GWX and SH Commander but can't get it to work. I've dropped it into my MODs folder and enabled it through JSGME. GWX loads fine through SH Commander afterwards but when trying to start a new career or load a career it crashes on the load screen you get prior to entering the game itself.

I've got the below mods enabled:

v3.2 is not compatible with GWX v3.0.
Reason was shown in this thread. Post #574 and #567.


Remove the mod.
Delete Cfg and Menu including its files out of PTSoundpack.
ReEnable the mod and try again.

Is there a way to keep the ambience with sailors chatting, etc on during cruise but have them be quiet in silent running? As trivial as it seems, it is definitely immersion breaking to be tracking a DD at periscope depth with people banging around and chatting. Otherwise, this mod is amazing!

I've noticed the crew cheer sound isn't working when I have a hit. The ono_cheer files are in the game folder and they play correctly using VLC, but nothing in the game. I followed the FAQ changes. Any tips?

I saw that one earlier, but it didn't address my issue. However, I found that hits in the naval academy torpedo lesson do not trigger the sound byte (they must be neutral or friendly). After getting into a mission and hitting an enemy unit the sound played just fine.

I noticed in this thread someone edited that file for just this very issue (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=5349). However, the download is giving me a 404 error. Hopefully it is fixed soon!

You can use sound editors to convert the sound you have to the appropriate format

You do realize that the sound effect you hear in the documentary is not necessarily realistic. In fact it is almost certainly a sound effect added when the documentary was made, probably from an old studio sound effects library. :hmmm:

Ahoy there...

For me, sound is one of the most important things in a game, both for imersion and for realism. There is a huge lack of sound mods for SH3, so I decided to start doing that, collecting every sound I could and putting it to work for the sake of all of us. I bet you're already tired of listening the same old sounds since you start playing SH3, while all the other parts of the game are updated by mods in a daily basis.

This is the THIRD version (actually the 194th version I think :lol: ) of my sound pack mod. In this version I have some few surprises for you guys...


- Destroyer sound
Remember those moments of tension in Das Boot when a destroyer was passing over them ready to depth charge? Now you have it. The sound you'll hear inside the u-boat when you're submerged and a destroyer is coming above you to sh!t all over you is the same sound from the movie. I've been playing with it and I must say it sounds incredible. Much more frightening!

- No more looping cranks sounds
Now you have a lot of short creak sounds, which is more realistic, and prevents the game from looping these sounds.

- Increased number of different cranks
from 4 to 47 (yes, 47 different sounds) in shuffle mode, working in groups of 5, so you can have a combination of 1.533.939 different creak sounds everytime you load your game. (ps. Refer to the V3.1 update)

- Reduced bass
of most sounds for headphone players. No more distortion when listening to sounds with high volume.

- Real sounds
of diesel engines, recorded during the WW2, by BBC.
of torpedos being launched from uboat, recorded during the WW2 by BBC.
of weather sounds (wind, ocean, rain, thunder rolls) recorded by BBC.

- WhispeRING RING mod included
lower volume on the RING RING sound for orders in speed changes so your dont hurt your ears.

- Identifying target/Solution to target
New sounds for it, a more realistic approach, you hear the sound of book searching and TDC calculations, instead of the instant response. Although the sound is longer and more realistic, I'm still working on the order reply (still coming out after two seconds, instead of after the sound finishes).

- Submarine ambient Interior Sounds
Three new sounds for it. All of them are 30 minutes long, so you don't have to hear the same short and repetitive sound all the time, the patrols are long, so should be the ambient sound. The first one is a ambient sound taken from Das Boot, so you have a lot of crew chatting in the back. The second one is with no chatting at all, for those who understand german language and think its not imersive. The third one (which will be played by default) is a mix of both first and second, but chatting on the left channel and ambient on the right, creating a very nice and imersive stereo ambient. It's my favorite one.

- New radio sounds
For new radio message received. You can hear the typewritter and crew chatting. For those who like to hear the morse code, there's also a compressed file inside, just de-compress it and enable via JSGME.

And thousand other things you'll notice during gameplay. I'll not put it all here becouse I can't remember all of them. Over 10 thousand files.

Im my humble opinion there's still a LOT of things to fix/improve. Im not even close to be satisfied with the sound pack yet, but I realised that I can't go on without feedback, and that's where you all can help!

F.A.Q.

1) Is this mod compatible with *whatever*?

For being a sound mod, its much easier to have compatibility with anything. I'll not post the list of mods that this sound pack is compatible with, it would be a long list. When enabling with JSGME, compatibility issues will be presented to you, or not. If you have any doubt about any compatibility, ask me here, posting the files that JSGME found being used by another mod and I'll give you an answer, and if thats the case I'll upload a file solving the issue for you. Basically it will work normally with anything, but in case of warning messages about files of .dat, .dsd, .txt and .cfg extensions, please ask me more details here.

2) How do I install it?

First off, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you to have the latest version of winrar, this sound pack is heavily compressed to make a more easy download, so you can get bad extractions using older versions of winrar. Its 850 mb of mod compressed in a 350mb solid archive. Just extract the content of the .rar file in your silenthunterIII/mods directory. Done that, enable it via JSGME. Even being compatible with GWX, its very likely for you to get warning messages when enabling, thats normal. Any doubt, read the 1) above.

3) I cant hear the "jahowl, herr kaleun" when giving an order, whats up?

From the "instructions.txt" in the mod folder:

Decent mods are made after a lot of feedback. Say what you don't like, why you don't like and how it should be modifyed. Modifying a sound is very easy for me, difficult is knowing where to use the magic wand!

5) Thomsen, when I enable your sound pack I lose some functionalities on the keyboard, like the binoculars and other stuff.

It's very easy to fix this. Just follow these steps:

1) Disable my mod, go to my mod's folder and delete both folders "MENU" and "CFG"
2) Enable my mod back on.
3) Go to sh3/data/menu and open en_menu.txt and change the line #1052 to:

1052=System check, diesel engine start

4) Open the sh3/data/cfg/commands_en.cfg and edit it with the notepad, in line #341:

Just copy and paste this over there. So there you go, you have the CTRL+S system start at the beggining of your patrol working with any version of commands_en.cfg and en_menu.txt, so by all means this will make V3 compatible with anything.

6) But thomsen, you're nutz! How the hell am I going to download such enormous file if I have a dial-up conection?

Easy there... Thinking of you guys, I've uploaded the same file divided in 10 parts, so you can download 10x 35mb files without a sweat!

7) The other interior sounds you mentined before, how do I put them to work?

The three sounds are in the same folder (sound folder). To activate them you have to rename them. The game will only load "ambient_submarineInterior.wav", so the other files have a number in the end "... interior1.wav" or "...interior2.wav"... you just have to rename the one you want, removing that number in the end.

Acabo de adquirir la nueva versión de GWX 3.0 (2.1) y lo que justamente le faltaba era tu mod de sonido. Tuve algunos incovenientes con los comandos, las cuales no me permitían moverme por el interior del u-boat y tambien anulaba la apertura de las escotillas. No obstante, pude solucionarlo borrando los archivos "Cfg" y "Menu" de tu mod y ahora no tiene ningún conflicto. Ahora pasearse por dentro del u-boat con tus sonidos es una experiencia deliciosa!
