i would like to hear the typewriter then message recieved kaleun in German as the message recieved sound. ps and dont you think the gunner has a cheek asking for a cigarette when relieve.

i cannot open the second file you mentioned about changing line 321 what program do tyou use to open it??? i work with Nortoncommander (it is to use CTRL s ingame)

Open it with any text editor, like notepad, word, wordpad, you name it!

Change line #341 like stated above!

I had a minor problem when I first tried to activate it, what version are you using? Other thing is that this pack is huge, took 2-3 minutes before JGSME took care of it, with the 1st, 45 or so seconds not doing anything.

It's not freezing, the pack is huge. In my computer it takes almost 5 minutes to enable it, and almost 2 minutes to check for incompatibility issues. So enable it and don't do anything else with your computer, just wait for it. May take quite a while, it's more than 10 thousand files.

Exacly... It's a lot of stuff for the CPU to take care of.

Well I finally got it enabled....but.........I had lots of problems with it.....the weapons officer would not open the tubes when I hit the button...nor would he figure a firiing solution......I could not access the Uzo or the binoculars from the watch officer icon.......the pause button would not work....and a few others....I had to disable the mod because of all the problems....from what I heard of the mod though....it was very good......I guess it is conflicting with my other mods.....:cry: :cry:

I highly doubt it could cause those problems.

Well the reason I say that .....is.....when I disabled it....everything worked again....so.....I attributed it to the mod conflicting with some of the others.....:hmm:

Not quite, Privateer. My mod has modified command_en.cfg that could be causing that.

@SlickRick, try this: Delete from my mod the folders named "MENU" and "CFG" and then enable it. Then do what I've mentined in post #245 of this thread, you'll find a step-by-step on how to make this works. I'm also updating the info of post #245 to the first post.

So, I opened with winmerge and combined.. everyone can do it.. Just compare the two files, command_eng(and all files from cfg and menu, except for the bak file) and add to thomsen's file, stuff he is missing.. :doh:

Nice touch on german names of the equipment, also..
And that sound of engine starting, it makes me feel I am in a engine from 1940 driven machine.. How about linking it to the sound when submarine emerges from the sea. I don't think it is possible but would be great if that procedure would be essential for any liftoff..

I couldn't delay anymore the sound pack. I don't like to delay too long my mods.
What I really like is to sit down in my computer and start modding, and only
get out of the chair when the mod is done. I've done this so far, before started working.
Besides, it's a sound pack. A lot easier to do it on the blind. :up:

I think all the sounds together are just the best. All things can be improved but you cant please just one person when more than one thinks its good. if you dont like the underwater sounds maybe you should be on a ship:hmm:

But I trully believe that if one hundred persons post here what they think of the creak sounds, we will have a pretty solid general opinion of them, and from that we can improve the mod, all together.

It's very complicated for a modder when just one guy comes and say "this is not ok", as there other 800 guys playing the mod and don't complaining about any part of it.

Is is a general opinion? If so, sure I'll be glad to improve on what I can, but I need help from you guys.

The moderators here are the law. You ask nicely, and get what you wished, or not.
Acting offensive will not make you get what you want.
The only thing that will happen is to get behind bars, like you are now.

Otto, I just wanted to say I LOVE your work!!!! DANKE!!!!! BTW, what was that "Irish drinking song" in the sounds folder you put in there for the dock music??? HEHE I loved it (nice surprise!) but I'm afraid I had to swap it for "muss i denn" to keep my immersion in the salty depths rather than in Guinness :up: I made some minor edits to some sound files to fit my own personal tastes, but you definitely saved me a tonnage of a load with your mod and endless hours of work staying awake doing it. You rock mon ami!!!! :up: IT'S THOMSENNN!!!! :arrgh!:

PS: Did you say you actually know Otto Sander? I'd say give him my regards, but he doesn't know who I am. So give my regards to the Brazilian ladies instead :up:

That fanfarra music is wrong... I ended up uploading the wrong ones...

Honestly now I crash dive only for the sound cranking pleasure!
My favorites is all the vintage electronic sirens , buzzers, electric motors... (small electronic sound when torpedo lauch, periscope up/down motors and so on...)
Also I love the SWS allhands.wav + SWS battlestations.wav sound in the THOMSEN's sound folder but I can not find it ingame!!!!
How to do , pliz??? I tried by using the "surface attack button stations" and "immerge attack button stations" but no way......


Also I have a free comment about realism, I am fed up with the rotation of the periscope , we can use it like a small wood stick! Do you remember the scene in "Das Boot" when the submerged attack of the destroyer, how slow is the rotation + the sound
on the left gggzzzziiiiiiiiii clac! on the right ggggzzzzzzziiiiiiiiii clac!.........
Do you know if there is mod, soluce, about this problem?

Hi all,

ok, then no way to hear the sws allhands + battlestations.wav, pity!!!

However, I saw a youtube ingame video about the U-boat mission pack of SH4.
They attached this kind of siren when periscope depth order is given form surface on a XXIII U-boat if my memory still functionning well.

P. Thomsen --> Don't you think it should be nice to hear such a siren for all periscope order?

About periscope maniability, ok then if no motor it's logical there is nothing in this way.
But we don't feel the weight of the stuff during the rotation, do we?

:huh: I dont feel like a betatester with this perfect mod! It might be too perfect ... while i was in a duell with some escorts i increased the volume and turned my ear close to the speaker to figure out what one crewmate was complaining about one of them damaged my tower running over it. :stare:

There is 1 thing about the alarm of solo escorts which are fighting the sub for hrs. Im no Navyguy but shouldnt be it in a permanent state of alert during the fight so no extra "on battlestation alert" should be necessairy. Everytime i fired on it after 20-60min i could here the sound.

No, I didn't find anything about the diving siren... but if I were U-boot designer I will do it of course! :lol: How to alert the whole U-boot crew of diving procedure if no sound alert?

Nope, you have to rename to periscope_fire.wav. Beware that there's already a file with that name, so you must rename it first. :up:

I'm getting there, my results so far are incredible, and not only for visuals, but the sailing behavior now is much more realistic, the small waves makes the ships look real big, like it was supposed to be. I'm really proud of my progress on this. But I might not release this, since you need a very good machine to make it run. I'm getting only 50 FPS on my 9600gt with 4gb of memory and a dual core.

I do a thread ("for a REAL difference between attack scope and obs scope") and during our posts we get an idea between Hitman and me. Maybe this one could be consider in your further sound pack. (I know you busy about the waves now! :D ).

during attack sequence with scope or UZO, when we mark a target with notepad, what's happen in real life is that the commander transmit to weapon officer the datas.

Then you guess I am wondering if we could attach a voice that say the range (if marking range), the AOB (if marking AOB) or speed (if marking speed) to the officer.

Then another voice (weapon officer) should repeat the order...

I think that MAYBE it's possible to link a voice to an existing command, but in that case you would have to create a command and then a link a sound for it. I'm not sure it can be done, my friend. It's not only a sound matter, much more complicated. I don't have all the knowledge or the time to go this deep on that sort of stuff, sorry. :cry:

Check in the sound folder, if you have a wav named Submarine_diesel_exterior.

The problem happens only with the VIIC?

I've just checked a single mission and I have diesel engine sound in the bridge with both VIIB and VIIC

There's a shorter version of a radio message sound (just the typewritter or just the morse code) inside the sound pack folder, you just have to decompress it and replace the sounds. For the gun action sound, it will be changed for the next version.

it might be nice hear an "all men in battle station"-like sound when you click on "submerged attack", or a "normal operations"-like order when you detach your men from battle stations and prepare the sub for the cruise..

I know this sounds rediculous to all the immersive historians out there, but I find it hard to command a boat when my crew speaks a different language. I have no idea what they are yelling:/ I think of it more as movie style where we are just talking, the language doesn't matter. You know, use your imagination. At any rate, I'd love an english version.

I guess no one else has noticed it, but the file amb_Hydrophone has a VERY noticiable click at the end of the file. I have checked and it is definatly there after extracting from the compressed files. This makes my hydrophone work very irritating due to my extreme pickiness when it comes to sound. Any chance your copy is perfect and mine is bad?

I have noticed that since I installed your mod, my desiel engine noise keeps cutting out when I am standing on the bridge. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the direction I'm facing or anything else I am doing. There is plenty of crewmen in the section, and they are definatly still spinning the props, but the sound cuts out and comes back randomly. Any comments/suggestions? Do you know of any way to increase the number of concurrent sounds allowed in SH3?

Didn't notice any bad mood, but thanks for the apology anyway.

I had this issue once before, and it was due to too many concurrent sounds. I believe in this case the same issue is here since it only started after adding your rather large list of sounds. I am interested in knowing if anyone else suffered the same circumstances in their game.

I have X-fi extreme on one rig and X-Fi elite pro on another and never had any engine cut outs. I have had some sounds loop when time compression is increased on the odd occation.

You can even enable it in middle patrol by just alt+tabbing out of the paused game. I don't think the game loads the sounds to the memory.

But I recommend that you load the sound pack with the game closed... we never know.

StepMum 82yrs. young graduate from SH2 to SH3 yesterday soo...I set her up with plain vanillia SH3, SHCmdr, ShGen and your out bloody standing 3.3 sound mod on her 6 month old high power cheap speakers Dell PC. She went to the Naval Academy Nav trainning hit Ctrl+S and bam..."Targeting ShIp"...BoRah:damn: check and Recheck my work and I said to her it must be scripted or hardcoding. She gave me that that User Look you know what I mean like fix it yesterday look ace the exam 1st try now I know alittle something about boats. Im 57 or will be very soon and in 1972 back from Nam went to work at EB in rotten Groton as a 3rd class outside Nuclear Machinist started on the Nautlis What (591) it had backup EMD's or Alco's forget which but...before they let you coreload that old SW5 plant, 600's or 700 boomer plants you had to be able tear down, put together and fire up them diesels. Anyway made Mom a quick and dirty patrol...she hit Ctrl+S....man had to turn away from her machine eyes got all watery. She got up grab the SH3 manual and quickref card got her purse, pullout her Visa and said, " Find me some speakers have the order in by tomorrow". True story the sounds are sweet thank you. Will be putting your Mod in my NYGM 3.1 after returning from my 1st patrol thanx so very much would say hats off to ya don't wear them but...I will sling my dregs. Stay deep!

Well, this version of the sound pack is the result of 4 or 5 months of work, 800 megabytes and 10.000 files. If you read carefully the first page you'll see that it adds a lot of new stuff aswell.

This looks very nice, and I hope to use it, i changed the replies to orders as you indicated we could as from my experinece with naval men of that time, they did indeed so reply or wish lower ranks to so reply often, it would depend on the Kaptain, but the ones I knew would ask it....

as for the other two files, radio message typed or morse...what do we do with them? are they options one or the other? i did not see instructions in the read me about them...and I am new so i ask :) with thanks.

Yeah, back in WW2 they didn't say "yes sir" for each order. The crew was basically the same from one patrol to the next, so they were kinda of a "family". So there was no need for formalities.

The radio messages are options if you don't like the original. You just need to uncompress them in the mods folder and enable after the main mod and patches.

Yes, this is a very good forum and you'll love this place! :up:

Now, to answer your questions...
1. The repeating interior sounds.... nope, nothing can be done in that case. The game starts the file again everytime you go to those rooms where the sound is used. That's why I included 3 versions of that sound within the mod. You can choose which one to use, and one of those versions is purely instrumental, with no crew chattering, no voices. All you need to do is listen to them (in the data/sound folder) and choose which one you like. After that, you need to rename the one you like. Ex: The one with no chattering, the file name ends with a ...3. You need to remove that number from the end of the file name for the game to load it instead of the other one. Obviously, you'll need to rename the standard one first.

2. The updates... you really need to install those updates. They are a very important part of the soundpack, with some bugs fixed. In my filefront page, in the same folder of the soundpack, you will find two updates, V3.1 and V3.2. You need to enable both with JSGME. First enable the V3, then 3.1 and finally 3.2. They contain some important corrections and bugfixes.

This is an old buggy game, and this soundpack was the best I could do, game-permitting. Still, you'll eventually find a lot of flaws... we do what we can.

I have checked and it is definatly there after extracting from the compressed files. This makes my hydrophone work very irritating due to my extreme pickiness when it comes to sound. Any chance your copy is perfect and mine is bad?

I too noticed the click in the ambient Hydrophone sound - so I loaded it up in cubase and got rid of it!

This is pretty cool, although as I actually speak some German the Das Boot soundbites get a little repetative and inappropriate. (hearing the old man say 'we'll stay submerged' while running on the surface is a bit weird and the chat about horse dung having a good life gets old after hearing it 20 times an hour :) )

but the atmosphere, dive routines, eardrum-friendly engine telegraph, occlusion of 'jawohl herr kaleun' etc etc are all really good!

all in all, a nice immersion mod which seems to work well with GWX 3.0

I have a big promblem with Thomsen's Sound Pack. Firstly, JSGME does not complain of any conflicts when it over-writes the DSD files in the data/interior/NSS_UboatX
folders. I'm not even sure if JSGME is supposed to complain about DSD files.

But the real problem is when I activate the following mod list, every thing works. But when I then add Thomsens 3.2 mod (by layering 3.1 and 3.2 over 3.0), it doesn't work (MS crash box just before campaign finsihes loading). By trial and error the problem is coming from the DSD files.

I've tried using S3D to see the differences but to no avail. Can anyone help ?

Okay, fixed it...created a seperate folder with existing DSD files and then merged in the Thomsen Sound DSD file changes using WinDiff and cut'n paste. Tried doing it with S3D but got into a tangle with headers when exporting/importing the creaks.

Funny thing is JSGME then noticed that the DSD files were being changed....very wiierd altogether. Can only assume I made a mistake somewhere.

Anyway, its working now so no panic.....NO PANIC!!!

I like this mod. Now there is a sound when the torpedo doors open. Before there was nothing. Sometimes I pressed Q twice to make sure the door was opened an for some reason sometimes if wasn't opened but without a sound I couldn't really tell.

So the sound associated with this event helps confirm that the door is opening. Great help! Highly recommend. Appreciate having 2 versions of the interior ambient sound also. I use the second one because in the first one someone says finalology (or whatever that phrase is) too much.

Hi...
First let me say Good work, it is totaly new exp with this sound mod.
The only thing I miss is rejoice of my crew (sound from das boot when the 1st torp hits the target).I shot few targets and I miss this sound so mush, it`s just not the same for me.
So if you could make it for me perhaps i would be appreciative.
Or if that is too much for you just tell me what to do to make it back.

If there is a sound disregard all above.

A simple mod ( with that sound ) on top of this one should fix you up. Someone I am sure will point you in the right direction to do this :yep:

Ok it goes like this.
I tried to eneble this mod Karle's German Cheering Mod V1.0 and jsgme notify me that the files are in use by the thomsen`s sp.Then i played his files and found the cheering files.The question is whay do they not activate when the hit is made?
I played the navy acadamy ---- convoy exam, sink all ships war and mercant not 1 time did I heard the cheering.Maybe i should play the regular patrol in car mod but i don`t think that would make any diference at all!?
What is your exp with this?

A friend just told me that this is a bug with the acadamy and in the game the thompson`s sound mod work just fine.

hi,

I have OLCG2 enabled and while trying to enable Thomsen's SP I get information that following files are already altered by OLCG2:

- commands_en.cfg
- en_manu.cfg
- steam burst.wav

does anyone know why Thomsens SP uses first two files ? I compared commands_en.cfg using winmerge and there seems to be no meaningful major differences.. well en_menu.cfg are LOT different though

why did OLCG2 changed steam burst.wav is another thing :hmmm:

EDIT: well I decided to delete conflicting files from Thomsens SP before enabling it, I'd rather loose some of it's functionality then mess OLCG2 ;)

I have a q.

Is ti posibile to intensify the hidrophons sound when "H" is presed.
I found it very disturbing when i "put my headphones (in the game when I press "H") that the sound in sub is stronger then the sound from the hidrophon headphones.
Is there a way to make thos wright.
That when I sit in front of the hidr. to listen the sounds by myself the back ground volume be lets say about 5 and the hidr. volume be 10.
So to be more realistic.Afthet all you put the handset and it make more sense to the sound from the phones be more louder than the backgorund sound.

Question is can it be made?

I can put Thompson's SP V.3 along with the updates on my ftp if you have any problems getting it. Only downside is I only have a 512k upload. Still the offer is there should you need it. PM me.

yes, i think that if the file is too big (i don't remember now how much big) ,a ftp acount must be set in order to be able to upload them .LzZ or Sailor Steve could had directly upload them or ,if your ftp acount is setted,you ..proceed

UPDATE

After asking both Sailor Steve and LzZ, it seems the only way I can get you Thomsens Soundpack is to put it up on my FTP or create a filefront acct. I've chosen the latter and am uploading as I type. Details will follow soon as it's done.

I think you are ok to put it up. PT has not been here in over 5 months, as you know he loved this community. I am positive he would be ok with this.
Your not making any changes to it, just putting it here so folks can have access to it.

I believe that the 3.1 and 3.2 updates are each just patches, so you will have to apply 3.0, then 3.1, then 3.2 for them to work right.

Alternatively, the compiled link above is a smaller file in the common rar format which only requires you to apply one mod and includes the ambient hydro sound fix.

I'm having some difficulties with Thomsen's Sound Pack - I just got it last night, and while I like it very much, I am unable to change the settings in the TDC!

The issue seems to be a conflict with the Hitman Optics Mod - there is no button to switch from manual to automatic TDC updating in this mod, you have to hit CTRL+T. Sadly, with Thomsen's mod active, I am unable to convince the TDC to do anything when I hit CTRL+T. It just stays put - can't change AOB or target speed, both of which are kind of important!

Does anyone know what the issue would be, and what I need to do to fix it? I would love to keep using both mods if at all possible.

Thomsen's pack uses commands_en.cfg which overwrites the GUI mod. Not sure what Thomsen uses that for (one is I think the engine start sound) but you can delete that file from Thomsens's mod and enable it like that.

Thanks! I'd like to keep the start-up sequence, but I have to give the Hitman Optics precedence over that, since I'd only really be listening to it at the start of my patrol anyway.

Excellent variety of hull creaks and really like the raise and lower scope sounds. Still undecided on the ambience with German voices (I know there are two alternatives). Also, small glitch that the chief engineer's speaking animation no longer matches the shortened response sound when giving orders although this is very minor.

I notice with both stock sound and Thomsens sound that when i go to different rooms like the nav room I still hear the wind blowing and then when I dive I still hear the wind blowing so I am disableing the mod until I find out why that is. If anyone know I would like to fix it thanks

This happens with other sound mods too. Save, exit and reload should fix the problem.

This Mod sounds cool, but i've never installed any Mods for SHIII before. coud someone explain just how i go about doing this. I checked for a Mods folder in Programfiles/UBisoft/Silent Hunter, but couldn't find any. (maybe i missed something.).

I gave this pack a try, and really like (most of) it.
But there seems to be a recurring bug. Sometimes, when diving below 100m, a certain cracking noise caused by pressure gets stuck in an endless loop. Only way to stop it is to reload the patrol, wich takes me about 15 minutes.
Anyone else experienced this?

You don't need to reload.
Simply dive again this deep, let the loop play out by itself. And be done.

This happens mostly when one uses time-compression while sound files play. In your chase diving. So don't.
Keep in mind that Thomsen's files are powerful ;):rock::o:up:

Oh, and if you use SH3Commander, you can adjust the time compression for all the effects when to be played or rendered.:88)

May be not the best place to ask but I don't want to start a new thread for just a question.

So , for one more time I am asking for your help.
I want to replace the sound file that comes with crash diving, the ALARM one, with the original one from Das Boot (I have that sound file already).
But despite messing around with sound files, I failed.
