Thank you, but I fixed it. Had to unload all my Mods on JSGME, and reload. Worked perfectly after that. I was doing exactly what you said before, with the aforementioned results. After the reload, everything worked right. Got a Kongo and a Hiryu in an attack, and got to see a DD bombed by US aircraft. All in all cool stuff. Very well done. I guess it was an issue with JSGME, because it works perfectly now.

Yes it does. Some have Fuel, Some have Freight, Some have Ammo

This is my first time trying to post a quote from a previous post. Here goes:

lurker_hlb31. Start Campaign on May 25th 1942
2. Select Sub
3. Depart Pearl Harbor
4 using a speed of 12kts go to position 3010N 17940E or 310 / 195.1nm from Midway Island
5. you will arrive at approximately 1030 on 2 Jun 1942
6. “ Do not” move from that spot, do not submerge
7. At 4 Jun at 0643 you will not the clock “freeze” as the IJN fleet “spawns”
8. At 0725 on 4 Jun you get a radar contact bearing 335 at 12nm
9. go to periscope depth, you will see hydrophone contacts from bearing 245 clockwise to 340

I tried this with a few slight modifications. I started a new patrol (not a new campaign) in Pearl, around the same start date. Headed to Midway, topped off my tanks and headed to the 3010N, 17940E, arrived a little earlier than June 2 1030. Sat there and did nothing. Noticed the clock freezing around 4:40 am on June 4. Could not get a radar contact as it appears that radar is not available yet(?). Tried a couple of various things at this point: Moving West at various speeds, Hydrophones, waiting til 7:25 then doing all the aforementioned. Haven't had any luck. Maybe you just can't change history....

I have a strange problem..maybe. Found two targets that appeared as sunken vessels near Tarawa. You could lock on as "Target 1". In my ID book there are two pages that simply state Target 1 or 2.

Not sure if it's TMO or RSRD. I am told that these two targets shouldn't be there and that I have a corrupt game or mod...someone else says they were placed there so as to have something to lock on to complete the recon...which is it,,,is there a target 1 and 2 in the ID book that are really sunken hulls?

I found them both listed in TMO and RSRD data/roster/env/sea. I just assumed both listed them the same as not to cause conflicts, but told they shouldn't exist and my game if fubar.

A few times I have been in search of a ship, or convoy, to find that suddenly, one or two of the ships appear as grey sunken symbols on the map. It wasn't me mum!

There is "nothing" wrong. These are "camera targets" for recon missions

This is from the RSRDC Upgrade Readme that you can find in the "Support" directory

Revised “ALL” the photo recon missions. Using a “stealth” ship target, the user will now have to take a periscope photo of the target area. The “stealth” ship target is located under the “photo” icon on the nav display. If you have “map contacts” turned on you will see a “green” ship contact under the icon.

Special note: The concept of use invisible ship as a “photo” target was first put forth by “tater” in one of his “Improved Campaign” mods

Roster

Added two “stealth” ship target

What I thought.....dgrayson and ducimas now understand.

If you come back, does RSRD remove all the allied airfields. I noticed they're all gone. I also noticed few lifeboats when sinking capital ships.
I take it that's just too much to program considering both really have no bearing on the game.

What bugs, Keith? I've been using TMO1.7 for a couple of months without so much as a hiccup. I've been assigned to a Sargo class, a Salmon class and now a Gato class boat. All worked quite well except the periscope depth for the Sargo and Salmon were too deep, and I had to go up about 10 feet on both to get a good view. No problems at all with the Gato so far. Lots of targets. In fact, on the last patrol, I had to go back and rearm four times as I couldn't get all the way to the South China Sea with any torpedoes left in the tubes. I've sunk over 100K tons twice with no problems (usually onesies and twosies and unescorted). Nearly sunk my boat twice getting into a shootout with an armed freighter (once 96% hull damage). The admirel shook his finger at me vigerously, but gave me another boat anyway.

I really fail to find any bugs at all. Could you be a little more specific with your beefs, and I can keep an eye out for the bugs.

DBF!

Hi Lurker,

I was using your latest version for TMO v411 and when ever i scroll through the japanese ships in the recognition Manual i get so far and then the screen goes black with the "Microsoft" application error message. I have tested my install of sh4 1.5 with just TMO and this doesn't happen.

As i'm an IT engineer and hate it when people at work, make sweeping statements about stuff not working without checking out things first :down:, So i've done the following;

Downladed a fresh copy and Reinstalled RSRDC - the game still crashes
Noted that the error occurs in all missions - single, war patrol and campaign.
Noted that the crash, if scrolling backwards thru japanese ships, occurs the next page after the momi patrol boat.
Noted that the crash, if scrolling forwards thru japanese ships, occurs the next page after the Katori light cruiser (ASW).
Noted, as previously stated ,that without an RSRDC install the game functions fine, and that i've not had this issue with any other previously released versions.

I'm guessing it's an image in the recoginition manual causing the problem as i don't believe that the Recognition manual actually "calls" any of the 3d models.

If it's just my install then i clear the whole sh4 install and start afresh, but i noted that the new version added some ships.

If you're attacking freighters in a harbour, does the game try to order nearby warships or even a task force there ? Or are those smaller ports never guarded by any escort ships (like Lae - Bismarck Sea)?
I didn't explore too many harbours in RSRD, yet.

Or would such a thing be completely out of the scope of the implementation of this game ?

You could check out the BattleOfPhilippineSea.mis file. If you wanted to have a look at the IJN task force well west of Guam (if I'm looking at the right file) I might try 0245 on June 19th @ (137.36W x 13.43N) or at the same time on the same day (136.29N x 12.58N). There are 2 TF's and they split.

But I believe they're tied in to the campaign.cfg file & when your current patrol started. For this battle I think your current patrol has to have started after StartDate=19440301 or the .mis file doesn't load. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

Not that I've seen. I've attacked several ships in harbor and have never seen NEW forces arrive, but there are many harbors guarded by DD's and gunboats etc.

I'd like to see more nets/minefields around them like those you find around the atolls in the Marianas & Gilberts, but I'm sure the RSRD crew would have thrown those in around harbors if they didn't cause problems. So I assume putting them around harbors might bugger stuff up?

So is the TMO163 V410 is old and replaced by TMO170v411. I tried 4 times to DL, the DL shows finished but it's not DL the full file. Is there another place to try to DL.

Do we need a new career. I guess it's talked about somewhere on this thread and I just missed it.

Is there a readme included telling what it changes or can I read it somewhere before DL it. I want to finish one career before loading another mod.

What a great job you've done. Just finished the battle of Surigao strait. Simply amazing and fairly historically correct. The surface battles between the fleets was the best so far. Got two Fuso's and some CA's myself..with help.

After that battle, Oct 25 I headed for N Samar and not far out of the strait I ran into the San Bern TF...It turned around and headed back for the San Bern Straits...and finally just vanished on radar. Then the US Jeep Carrier force shows up.

Great job, played all night and wore out. Can't wait to try the update.

Also posted in TriggerMaru_Overhaul_1.7 as not sure which its relevant to:

Hi I've just started Silent hunter 4 after being away from sub sims since the original Silent Hunter when I came across this Mod.
I've installed the following:
1.) REL_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_1.7
2.) Hotfix 4/17 Radar Fix
3.) Binoc fix (CaptScurvy)
4.) Optional mod - RSRD By Lurker_hlb3.
But I am having trouble with getting a correct range estimate. When i drag the ghost image down to the top of the mast so as its touching the waterline of the ghost image I can see the dial turning and showing what appears to be the correct value, but when I click the LMB to set the value it changes to a smaller value (eg. I set the range to 1300yards ang when I click the mouse button it jumps down to 400yards) is there a reason for this? I end up having to create all my firing solution manually guessing and adjusting ranges.

I have tried setting the measurments in options to Imperal and Authentic (What is the difference between these?)

Thanks for the mod, I really like the new patrol descriptions etc. The problem is that I've played two patrols and I haven't come across a single enemy ship. I've had a couple of radio reports but these have been too far away to get to in time. I haven't has a single map reporting of a ship or convoy. I did come across a zero but that's been about as exciting as it gets.

Is something wrong here or is this just the way the mod is; almost no enemy shipping?

Thank you,

M

I think the shipping density is alright in the mod.

I'm playing it for 3.5 ingame years since since 2 years or so I am leading the ... err ... scoreboard thing back in base.

It mostly comes down to patience and finding the shipping lanes. I could stick around some harbours for weeks without any ship coming by and at some (like west of Rabaul - Bismarck Sea) I would encounter them frequently.

I often set a complicated, long mess of waypoints around my patrol zone and cruise along with 2/3 speed, listening to ingame music and often doing something else on the side at 512-1024x TC (depending on area and weather).
Doing that, the overall contact frequency seems to be very believable. At some patrols I meet a single ship every 1.5 days at some (rare) patrols I would use up almost all of my fuel without spotting anything.

What AVG said. Some patrols I bag a dozen or more merchants--other times 3 or 4, once in a great while none. Be aware, late in the war ships become scarcer. Then it pays to hug the coasts.

On my third patrol I came across a destroyer task force. I've had my best luck in the Celebes Sea and the Sulu Sea. Both have 'choke points' that are pretty active (1942-1943). By 1945, you might have to be satisfied with Sampans and Fishing Boats.

BTW, the newer TMO and RSRDC combo seems to arm even those clunky old freighters with two cannon and several large caliber machine guns. Had to limp all the way back to Freemantle with 97% hull damage after getting into a shoot-out with one. Good thing I didn't have any contacts all the way back - it wasn't even safe to dive to periscope depth.

Guys I recently tried RSRD, alone and mixed with RFB, TMO and O. Monsoon.

The mod is awesome, alone and mixed but I have a problem. RFB + RSRD runs smooth, no problems so far after a 7 months (game time) campaign. TMO + RSRD is giving me trouble, the game CTD when it is loading the asigned mission. Thought it was my installation of SH4 ( thought it was a corrupted files issue, even if JSGME was saying there were not changes in my data folder) so I did a fresh install just to be sure, tried TMO _17 + RSRDC_TMO_v170_V411 with the patch (just in case). The game stills CTD but only (here is the interesting part) if I pick an S-Class sub, if I choose any other sub then it will load normally. Were you aware of this?

I am asking because TMO alone doesn't have the problem so maybe it is something with the RSRDC file. Not many people like to play old subs so it is possible that nobody reported this issue before, or maybe it was but I could not find the link.

BTW I downloaded all mods from this place and surely have the latest versions.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Marco

Require the following information:

[quote=lurker_hlb3;1124959]1. Date of mission start ?
December 7th 1941

2. Assign Task Group ?
Task Force 3/51/71

3. home base ?
Manila

4. Which "Type" of S-Boat - S18 or S42 ?
S-18

5. What was the assigned mission that caused the CTD ?
Combat patrols, tried 5 times and all of them were combat patrols to different points, the result was the same: CTD.

6. A list of all mods installed and what order ?

Loaded Mods in this order:

1. TriggerMaru_Overhaul_17 + hot fix.
2. RSRDC_TMOv170_V411

Note: I was mistaken the patch I applied was not for RSRDC but for TIMO, the so called hot fix for 1.7.

Thankx in advance Lurker.

Well just conducted a system test based on the info provided and was unable to recreate your problem.

Would like some more info on this statement

no problems so far after a 7 months (game time) campaignAre you saying your problem started "7 months" after the information you provided me ?

Stormende

No, no that is for RFB + RSRD, that mix works just fine no problems at all.

The problem I have is with TMO and RSRD and only if I select an S class sub, if I pick any other sub available then the game runs just fine, that is why I thought maybe there was a problem with the S Class files. Let me do more testing so I can give you more details.

Thankx for now, Lurker.

EDIT: Ok, first than all let me apologize, thought it was RSRDC the problem but it was not. After checking and rechecking the files I found that RSRDC doesn't alter the subs at all so I checked TMO and found it got messed last time I unloaded thru JSGME, it was a coincidence I decided to try RSRDC just when TMO got messed up.

My bad, Lurker sorry for wasting your time.

I do appreciate your help tho.

Thankx!

i have little question: how is managed ships in this mod (i have TMO version + fix) - are there substitute ships for one that have no model or you may encounter only modeled ships?

i was confused becouse i spotted Maya in 1941 in Yokosuka and in this time she should look like Takao not Maya game model so i wondered if it was a substitution.

Hi all,

My install is :
Sh IV v1.5 / RFB 1.52 / RSRD_RFB v1.5_v421 / RSRD_v421 patch1 / RSRD_v421 patch2.

(Patch1 concern Momi and Subchaser upgrades).

So, my question / problem is, should we have access to the museum because I tried to "visit" in order to observe the new ships added by patch 2 and game ctd.
Sh IV v1.5 / RFB 1.52 alone is a go but with RSRD, no museum.

Anyone has experienced this before ?

First of all there is no "RSRD_v421 patch1" there was only a "RSRD_v411 patch1" for for TMO ONLY. I strongly recommend that you remove that patch right now or going going to have problems

The "Japanese Harbor Traffic" in RSRDC is "stock". also IRT "are there substitute ships for one that have no model or you may encounter only modeled ships" the answer is yes, see the following post

Hello all,

I am seeking some advice, I hope you dont mind me doing it on this thread. I have used JSGME to install some mods, they are in this order...

RFB_1.52
RFB_German Audio Files
RSRDC_RFBv15_v421
RSRDC_v421_Patch2
Rel_SH4_BBC_1939_to_1945

I have installed these mods and now RFB_1.52 and RSRDC_RFBv15_v421 are both greyed out as a result of requests to overwrite previous mods.

I just want to know if everyone else's JSGME screen has greyed-out mods and is this normal? I want to make sure I havent messed them up with my overwrites.

Fear not, that just tells you that a file modified by a previously installed MOD, its being changed by another MOD.

that helps to indicate which files are being changed that might generate a problem

for sure, readme.txt and radio.ini will be affected

Hey to all, I'm running TMO and RSRD starting in Dec of 41 with a Sargo class boat out Manila. I am up to my 6th war patrol, late Sept of 1942 (now homeported out of Fremantle) and I keep getting the same mission type... always standard anti-shipping. I do love a good anti-shipping patrol but I would have thought that a boat operating during this timein the war and operating out of Manila, Surabya, and Fremantle would pick up a lot more special missions (evacuations, covert supply, espionage, raids, etc.) Are special missions included in RSRD?

I've noticed that when running the latest version of the TMO 170 Compatible RSRD I'm losing some of the red height indicators within the recognition manual, mainly from the Japanese Navy.

Looking under SCAF I read "For Run Silent, Run Deep Campaign: It should be noted that SCAF is incorporated in the current RSRDC for TMO 1.7 version. For now, it is in the RSRDC_V410_Patch 2A which was released March 31, 2009."

Why is it then that I'm losing some of these indicators? It's a shame because I really like this mod but am disabling it until I can get my accuracy back!

Will the current version of RSRD for TMO (1.7) work with the Beta TMO 1.8?

Yeah I know, the answer is probably "try it and see", really Im just curious if others are using RSRD with TMO Beta 1.8?

Yet SHIV crashes every time it starts to load; the loading bar on the splash screen gets about 2/3s of the way then I get a windows error. I disabled RSRD (retaining just TMO + fixes) and it loads normally. Here is the load order in the mod enabler:

TriggerMaru_Overhaul_17
TMU_Hotfix_041709
MaxOptics&SCAFFix TMO 1.7_41109

Greetings, I must say this mod is fantastic. I play this game often. I noticed whenever I get a flash message and head off to TRUK the game slows down and eventually crashes. I had to finally go back to the save when leaving port to correct the problem, since all saves at TRUK and since eventually cause a crash.

Lurker, maybe you can answer before Ducimas, but it's become a debate at SH.

TMO escorts are tuned much harder. Doe's RSRD override the settings of TMO escorts?

Also, I don't think TMO includes all those bad ships you added with the 6 Y guns.

Simply, doe's RSRD dumb down the harder sensor settings of TMO. I've played both, I don't notice anything and some of those ships you added will kick your arse. Someone said you had most ships set to lower settings, few vet crews, ect., not sure of sensors.

The campaign files for RSRDC and TMO are way different. FYI the reason your getting your arse kicked is because of changes in TMO.

Hey Lurker, while i was attempting to load up RSRD for the new TMO 1.8 I noticed this.

"AI_Sensors.dat" has already been altered by the "TriggerMaru_Overhaul_17" mod.
"AI_Sensors.dat" has already been altered by the "BETA_TMO_17_to_18" mod.

I was just wondering if you could briefly tell me what the AI changes are. this is the only file conflicting with 1.8.

Red Devil
08-05-09, 04:47 AM
I wouldn't worry about that as its normal for one mod to alter a file ahead of another mod. All it means is that the necessary information is already installed, a 'notice' I see quite often. Its not a conflict as such but telling you the necessary change has already been completed satisfactorily.

I suspect that you have downloaded the "wrong" version of RSRDC. The current download versions of RSRDC_TMOv170_V11 and Patch2 have been re-downloaded and confirmed to "binary" match the CM controlled version.

There have been over 1400 downloads of both V411 and the patch, and so far I've only heard you and one other say their having a CTD.

I think you need to recheck what your downloading and installing

No targets? Its a B-I-G ocean, and you have to be in the right place (at the right time). Lurker has the ships and convoys pretty much accurate as to where they actually were. Not sure if there are any extras thrown in.

I've been in the Asiatic Fleet since the start of the war, and haven't had any trouble finding targets. Usually, when I finally get to my partol area, targets are scarce. I've been assigned to the S. China Sea, and always have to reload/refuel at Darwin at least once, and as many as four times just to get to the partol area - I run out of torpedoes before getting anywhere near the area. Here's the cruise I usually take:

Freemantle ==> Darwin (top off fuel)
Darwin ==> Banda Sea via passage W. of Timor
Banda Sea between Buru and Ceram (targets around Ambon Island) ==> W. of Obi
Obi ==> Molucca Sea (targets transit between Halmahera and Celebes)
Molucca Sea ==> Celebes Sea (Choke Point in passage between Kema and islands)
Celebes Sea ==> Sulu Sea (Choke Point is passage W. of Tawi Tawi)
Sulu Sea ==> S. China Sea via Balabac Strait Choke Point or Minboro Strait
S. China Sea - Saigon/Camrahn Bay ==> Hong Kong/S. Formosa shipping lane

I have yet to even get to the S. China Sea without returning to Darwin at least once to reload. Most of the targets are unescorted single freighters or tankers. Life gets alot easier after you get RADAR installed.

You have to loiter around known convoy routes and slowly zig zag across the route, ships will appear, fairly regularly.

Raven08
08-20-09, 12:29 PM
First two patrols were odd with no contacts, but now I'm sold on RSRDC. Third time out, spotted two unescorted IJN Heavy Cruisers in 89 ft. of water, closed within 900 range and took them both out. Subsequent patrols have been great, stalking the shoals and grabbing tankers inbound.

Have to say this mod delivers on all levels, can't imagine playing the 'shoot em up' stock version again.

Happy Hunting! And thanks for the great mod Lurker! Lucky to have modders willing to take the time to make these sims so much more immersive and realistic.

Hello,

Thank you for an excellent mod. I also have had no issues finding ships and have seen plenty of aircraft which leads me to my question.

I have

RFB_v152
RSRDC_RFBv15_v421
RSRDC_V421_Patch2

installed via JSGME

I have only one glitch, I have been dive bombed by "betty's" that are crashing into the ocean and bouncing off the water strangely?

Is this an original SH bug? or a mod issue? 2 other types of Japanese amphibians are attacking me w/o these issues, the single engine single float and a 4 engine, but the betty issue has happened 3 times now on this 1st patrol. I have a save before it happens one time and can recreate it.

Thank you for any info.

Yea, I see that myself. Didn't notice it much with TMO 1.7, but a lot with 1.8 beta. I thought i read somewhere RSRD works with 1.7. I didn't see any conflicts with anything 1.8 related, so not sure if I'm just paying attention since I run cams more patrols.

Would love to see all the added ships recently made added to RSRD. Really don't understand why some of them add and some don't. Take the new frieghter..It will show up in the game, but just ID's as Large Modern. So many new ships, hope you add some.

kinda torn on this mod.

i really dig the new objectives, orders, etc.

but i like convoy battles, which there seems to be a lack of. part of what attracts me to these games is the non linear gameplay.

but it seems here, i have to go grab some ww2 books to find out when and where to go if i want to see any real action other than a single ship here and there.

i know this mod is aimed to make it more realistic.. but did japan not have sizeable convoys moving about their occupied holdings?

ahh well.. i always preferred the atlantic war when it comes to subs.

Something for everybody, its historical in the quantity and nature of the convoys. Its as close as SH4 and time would allow to the reality of the PTO. Prior to bagging the mod, you can check out Silent Victory to get a sense of the tactics, strategies and an insight on where to find the Japanese Convoys.

Happy Hunting!

Do IJN AI controlled submarines show up in RSRD campaign ? Like they do in TMO.I know German U boats do, browsing campaign traffic layers in RSRD and can not locate a layer for IJN subs.Never had any messages about IJN subs, but noticed IJN AI subs are on the roster of ships.Hopefully will run into one sometime. They are fun to deal with in TMO.

I have sent four IJN subs to the bottom in TMO, they blow up real nice. Are you sure they torpedoed you? As far as I know none of the AI subs can fire torpedos yet(someone is working on it, cant wait for that day)

The sub you encountered, was it in RSRD?

Unsure of its design, did not see it, but assume IJN sub because nobodt was on surface in a zillion klicks of me, no aircraft and no enemy forces on land that was not near me anyway.

I'm trying to edit some of the convoys and TF's in RSRD.

Problem is if I make any changes, it resets the respawn rate from 0 to 24, if I try to set it back to 0, will not stay. Can set it to 10000 hours or so etc but not 0.

Any ideas? How did you get the ME to let you have zero?

Want to add some traffic to the Yellow Sea, its pretty lonely up there.

From the readme's in the "Support" directory of RSRDC

For those of you who enjoy “reverse engineering”, if you use the SH4MissionEditor on any layers, under no circumstances make changes or select “ok” in the “Group Properties” window. If you do, you will cause All the tracks within the layer to longer generate correctly. The reason is that I’m making “hand” edits to these files to ensure that the tracks generate “on time”

Bubblehead1980
10-06-09, 12:02 AM
Ah, I read some of the readmes in RSRD but frankly there are a lot of them. Thanks for answering. Now my question is, how do you hand edit the traffic? So can get respawn rate at zero and not affect the timing.

A new version of RSRDC for TMO is up. Check first post for download link.

Hello! First post :D
Relatively new to SH4, have been playing TMO beta 18 for a little while..

The mods I use as of now (installed with JSGME):
*tmo 17
*tmo17-18beta
*tmo 18 patch 1
*tmo 18 patch 2
*tmo 18 patch 3
*tmo 18 patch 4
So all I need to do is add RSRDC v500 here? No patches or anything?

Also I was wondering, in TMO 18 (and stock? don't know..) one can easily raid many ports/harbours for 20000 tons each..
How is it in RSRDC (in general)?

Also another question: I tryed RSRDC v4xx something (can't remember sorry, before I saw there was a v500 for TMO18) and just screwed around alittle to see how it seamed..
One thing that bugged me was when I sat (for 4 days) outside a port on the SW end of Formosa (because I wondered what the "unknown black objects" were on the island?). I saw in that time 3 merchants approach from the west only to dissapear less than 2000m from me, is that "normal"?

Thx for what seams an incredible mod mr. Lurker, very much looking forward to trying it out with TMO18!!!

What your seeing is "end of track" the ship in question has reach it's last way point and is dropped from the system.

Lurker, Re later versions of TMO, just as a heads up. I'd hate to see you bend over backwards only for me to throw more changes at you later on.

Its my intent to start utilizing unit type 16 and 17.

Im moving bungo pete to unit type 17. (elite destroyer escort)
I'll be creating PB102 under the same unit type.

I moved my "Q ship" to unit type 16 (elite patrol craft)

Im considering making another auxillary gunboat and inserting him as a corvette.

I have no other plans on changing unit type designations. I have these changes in a WIP, and have not posted them in any form yet.

I am also considering changing EQP files. I may finally get around to making a 2nd type of DC rack or Y gun. Something im considering, but its just an idea.

CFG files are likey to change as well if i make SCAF an optional mod.

Sorry if any of these changes are giving you problems.

I was pleasantly surprised when I was redirected to another objective. Then another and another...which leads to my question..

I was directed to intercept shipping along Palawan. I circled it a couple of times and couldn't find anything, so I moved north across the South China Sea to blockade 2 enemy harbors..still nothing..down to Darwin to refuel, back around Palawan, east to Hong Kong..nothing. Back to South China Sea, circled Palawan again, then in desperation i ran along the eastern coast of Japan looking for anything except airplanes. 3 months later and no sign of a target.

Do you ever get the message to Return to Base, or does the mod keep you out at sea as long as you keep sending radio updates after completing objectives? The crew wants to go home to their wives, I'm debating just heading home.

Had an interesting patrol yesterday: I was commanded to drop supplies for some troops in a hidden bay. I arrived directly at the location (not 50 yards difference, i swear), but nobody was there. I waited a bit when suddenly i heard "radar contact, medium range". I dived and hid. A fast (and small) enemy ship drove EXACTLY to the location i had been waiting the whole time and circled around looking for something.....

It was a trap!!!! :o:o:o

Not sure if that was scripted and what role RSRD plays in that, but it was so incredible. Awesome.

edit: Ran into a giant convoy today... As I was too afraid of the escort shield I shot 6x Mk14's at slow speed at the maximum range, three hits, three misses (I couldn't see sh** due to fog, night and rain. Sank one ship with ~7000tons and damaged another one, but it got away. Interestingly the escorts did NOT find me and I could simply sneak away unharmed...

One question, though: Is that escort shield realistic? It felt somewhat odd...

edit 2: duh.. here the pic:http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4135/sh4img20091116185045250.th.jpg (http://img134.imageshack.us/i/sh4img20091116185045250.jpg/)

Is 'Run Silent Run Deep Sound MOD.SPAX' still needed, or is it now part of RSRDC_TMO_V502 ?

I still have to finish out the war with TMO 1.7 and RSRDC before I load up the new mods. Oct '44 at the moment (the furthest I've gotten yet). I have noticed that shipping is getting a little scarce. At the beginning of the war, I would have to return to a base (usually Darwin) and reload two or three times before I even got to my assigned area. Probably realistic, but makes for L-O-N-G patrols, and skimpy tonnage.

Thanx for all you do. :salute:

Did RSRD change the way the fleet commands are labeled. I ask because with RSRD, the sub commands are: SubPac and Task Force 3/51/71. With TMO only the sub commands are: Pacific Fleet, Asiatic Fleet, Pacific Fleet Div 2, and Asiatic Fleet Div 2.

With TMO 18 or earlier with the appropriate version of RSRD, I had the 4 sub commands as opposed to just the two.

Hi lurker,

I'm running RFB 1.52 with latest fix, and on top of it your magnific campaign, up to RSRDC_RFBv15_V421

I was out of Fremantle in an S class boat in april 1942 with the objective of patrolling the Celebes Sea, Northeast of Tarakan Island. Found good hunting there and put down three merchants, expending all my torpedoes, but had three problems or strange experiencies:

1.- No matter how much I crossed and crossed over the objective mark, even atop the center of it, it never changed status to "completed". The objective had no duration, simply to "reach" that position. On other patrols, as soon as I got close to such objectives, it was completed and I got a new one asking me to patrol for X hours. Not this time, though!.

2.- With all torpedoes expended I reported to base on my way to Brisbane (Received a message telling me that by 18 april 1942 all S-Boats were to report there), but the return message I got was to continue with my current objective :o Low on fuel and with no torpedoes, is that normal? Shouldn't it be "Return to base, well done"

3.- I planned to refuel at Darwin, as the icon showed there was a refit tender or secondary base. But when I nosed in at april 25th, there was nothing but a docked destroyer. Could not refuel, and had to creep my way slowly to Brisbane at economical speed. :damn:

Item 3: Didn't you notice the small "anchor" icon in the upper right corner of the display. It will be there when you are within 10nm/20km of the "base" marker. Just double click on the icon and the "refuel/refit" window will display.

Reloaded the proper mission, went to Darwin and ...

:damn:

OK, now I got it :shifty:

Since I'm used to move those icons to a less disturbing part of the screen, it went unnoticed to me, as I'm also used to see the pop-up window automatically.

Thanks

I spent some time looking for an answer--couldn't find it. Can I install the latest RSRDC for stock, on version 1.4? I'm waiting to hear from ubisoft about getting me a new activiation code for my uboat addon (uninstalled it over a year ago.)

I was hoping I could run a RSRD campaign over 1.4 in the meantime.

The latest versions are 1.5-compatible only. However, you can download and install the 1.4-compatible version(s) of RSRDC. Go to this link to select the proper ones (TMO, RFB, or stock compatible): http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=157853

These were the final releases for 1.4. I played them up until last week.

Say, Lurker,

Whatever happened to the fishing fleets, sampans and junks? My gunners are really bored since Ducimus armed the freighters early in the war. Makes surface attacks unadvisable.

BTW, Ducimus said he didn't eliminate them. Since I'm only running TMO with RSRDC, I must assume this layer was 'forgotten' during the re-write. Is it possible to get them back? I really enjoy shooting the masts off the junks. :arrgh!:

There was no "forgotten" layer. The campaign files used by RSRDC are different from "stock" TMO

I haven't seen fishing fleets, sampans or junks for quite some time now. That's why I posted the question. Lurker says they are still there (and he should know), and Sudo says he just took out 4 'junkers'. Guess I'll have to give my radar another tap.

I try to patrol fairly close to shore or islands, where I used to find them quite often. Usually in groups of 4-6 in a fleet. I'm in the Asiatic Fleet, so don't get to Japan very often. They were usually quite common around the Philippines, and I imagine I've sunk more than one Filipino fishing fleet.

Now its November of '44, and not much in the way of Japanese shipping to shoot at. The convoys in the China Sea, around Singapore/Camranh Bay are really cagey, and make straight for the shallows where I can't even dive to periscope depth without scrapping off my SONAR head.

I really appreciate the effort Lurker has put into this MOD to get it accurate. I haven't played without it for a very long time, and each new addition just gets better.

Anyone had any luck getting the latest (in this case i have RSRDC_SH15_V550 and RSRDC_TMO_V502) RSRD to run with Ship Reflect and Caustic Envoriment Mod 5.1?

It runs of course if you add RSRD after the other, but it overwrites everything making it not functional aka, no reflections, etc.

The problem ive been having is the some ships are bugged.
A test for this ive devised is to use sub school, torpedo attack mission.
This ship is bugged everytime. It doesnt move, shoot at you, and the flag doesnt move.

Ive tried using tmo (19) and the rsrd_tmo but same thing.

Would love to have these two mods working together as the reflection-caustic mod makes the ships and stuff look ten times better.

I posted something on the download page for the caustic file, but didnt see a thread here so decided to ask my question here.

Also i should add, im using the 'simplified' version of Caustic-reflect becuase the other one crashes to desktop even with no mods installed at all and outright wouldnt run.
Im using 1.5 gold edition SH4.

Thanks for your time.

Hello community,

I have a question abour RSRD.

Does it change any propertys of equipment?

Since installing this mod(on new W7 pc), i have had a large number of mk14 torp failures. In one instance i fired 4 14's at a cruiser in a spread and all 4 detonated one after another about half way to target...

This is the only mod I run, oh and the small sea bed rocks mod. I enjoy the stock game and dont need to fiddle with it much.

I have realisim turned up but i did not think the failure rate was that high...

any advice?

Torpedo failures are modeled accurately, torpedos were really unreliable before Fall 1943.They had magnetic detonators designed to go off when torpedo was underneath the target, busting its keel. They were not tested in the Pacific beforehand and tended to detonate prematurely. In the game they do so, usually happens in rougher seas but can (and will) happen in calm seas.

As in real life, the backup impact detonator was also faulty, the firing pins would crush and not set the torpedo off, so they would get duds. This is well modeled in the game. The problem lagged on because the higher ups didnt want to accept the torpedos had problems.

torpedos also tended to run 10-12 feet deeper than set, this is also well modeled in the game earlier in war.

In the game, around August 1943 torpedos began to work very well and youll notice default setting becomes contact only on the detonator panel. This is because the magnetic detonators were disabled and the firing pins were fixed.Torpedos are very reliable after Aug 1943.Duds are rare, torpedos run to set depth.

For more info, should google Mark 14 torpedo and read all about the troubles, it's a wonder our subs sank anything before the problems were fixed.

Rolled up under layer about 3 k in front of the cruiser at 1k...

Lined up my settings all purdy like... figured i would let 4 fly and hope for 3. I try to guage that last fish to hit where the ship slows down.

I've never had any luck with M14's over 1500 yds (M), early war, at all. Rather than wasting multiple $10,000 torps, I try to get within 1500 yds (preferably 1000-1200) before I shoot. I still get a few 'duds', but that solves the premature problems. I use my torps like I had to buy them with my own money.

I may be mistook, but I don't think Mark 10s are available for any except S-Boats.

If you do the research (Wikipedia) on the Mark 14 torps, you will find that NAVORD did NO live testing at all on those torps. They were too expensive to waste 'testing', and since they were all made in the US of A, they were ASS U MEd to work as advertised. Actually, NAVORD was headed up by the same old fuddy-duddies that ran Army Ordinance during the Civil War. You remember, the same guys that didn't want to arm the army with repeating rifles cause they would waste alot of ammunition. Fasinating 'repeating' histories.

Mark 14s indeed cost over $10,000 (read $150,000 in todays dollars) since they were virtually hand-made by the each, and not mass produced. There were also shortages of torpedoes, and many boats went out without a full load.

Sorry for double Post, but it seems I have a quite larger problem here ;)

Yesterday I did a fresh install from the SH4 stock game, then installed the U-Boat Addon.

After that I installed Trigger Maru Overhauled 1.9, TM Patch 081209, and then RSRD TMO 502 (with JSGME)

Then I started a SUBPAC Campaign in May 1942, first mission was to "help out" in the battle of Midway. In only encounterd one allied Task Group, so I thought I was just unlucky.

Next Mission was a Patrol around Kiska, got a Flash Message that there will be a resupply mission from the japanese, didn't even found one enemy ship, only encounterd Airplanes. Maybe unlucky again. I also did a patrol to the other Harbor there (something with A, don't remember it yet), didn't make any contact. I also got into SJ-Radar Range to the Harbor's, but got no contacts.

Now I'm on my third patrol. I was ordered to patrol near Bungo street (I think that is the name), didn't encounter one single ship out there, only one Airplane contact was on radar in ~72 game hours. I entered the street, not one ship contact (by the way my ship was equipped with SJ Radar)

Entered two japanese harbors, you guess it, no ships there.

Then I went to Tokio Bay all along the japanese coast and...right....no contacts on the way.

Then in Tokyo Bay I only encounterd one armed Trawler and two Minelayers, but no other ship traffic.

So what is this? It's September 1942 and Japan already has runned out of ships? This can't be possible :wah:

Can there be something wrong with my installation? Or is RSRD not compatible with TMO1.9 after the latest patch?

OK

Based on your inputs, it appears that you have hit what I would call a “dead zone”, were one Campaign layer is finishing up and another one is loading. There appear to be an issue with the way the ships are spawning/ re-spawning that is a at the root case of this issue. This problem has been around for a “Very” long time and you just had the bad luck of “hitting” it at the wrong time.

I will be working up a single patch that applies to “all” versions of RSRDC and get it out shortly

It you time it right you can often find where convoys or TF pass each other or about come together. Such as the battle of PS, two large JP TF basically passed each other, close to 70 ships.

I love Java in Feb and March of 42. I think this is a SS of the Java force, can't remember the number of ships, but I didn't fit most of them in the shot.

Guess I will peek, want to see if I've missed one larger.

Lurker, I know that if you do certain things to campaign layers such as changing convoy composition, etc in the mission editor it will mess things up but if you only add new traffic and do no touch the existing traffic, will it still throw things off? Merci et bravo pour ce MOD.

My first carreer with RSRD:
SH4 U-Boat Missions + RSRDC_RFB_V575 + RDRSC_V5xx_Patch1
Base : TF 3/51/71 (Cavite) on 7 dec 1941
USS Snapper (Salmon class)
Manual torpedo firing. Dud torpodoes = false (I hate defective torpedoes :damn: )

1st patrol: patrolling in Gulf of Lingayen during 72 h.
After 72 h. no ships detected.
Message : Heavy IJN units in transit from Cam Raul Bay. I run to 07°30'- 110°E...
Bingo ! Big IJN Task Force detected and sunk : 90,000 tons
On the way back, I meet a new Task Force but I only have 5 fish. Another battleship will join his friends.
I rallied the base in Surabaya : many medals !
I buy SD radar and a bow 4" gun.

2nd patrol: patrolling in Macassar Strait and report IJN contacts to ABDA TF 3 ASAP.
Arriving on the area, non-escorted convoy merchant detected but impossible to send the message. :06:
Attack!

I want to arm the gun but location for the crew is no longer available. I do not think RSRD is involved because I had the problem with TMO, a time.
38,000 merchant tons sunk. Despite shooting manual, pretty easy, but the planes were annoyed !
Back to Surabaya. 5 medals

I loved:
- Patrolling with realistic goals
- The new navigation map with a lot of bases indicated
- Fueling in Balikpapan

Some questions:
- Nagumo's fleet (Pearl Harbor attack) never comes into play.:06:

Overall it's a great MOD. Thanks.

Running RFB 2.0 with RSRD latest version for RFB (1.52) I was patrolling the Bismarck Sea October 8th 1942, and decided to make a harbour raid in Rabaul :arrgh!: when I found something strange in the Rabaul Bay: A fishing junk going BACKWARDS :o Must be a new fishing technique :haha:

Here's a weird one. I'm useing the latest RSRD with the latest RFB. I'm writing in this thread, because I feel this issue may have to do with shipping patterns. Feb/42 Tambor class. Patrolling Southern Marshall Isls. Off the coast of Mili, make visual contact with a small modern composit freighter. Determine he's heading for Mili. Track him for some time on the surface, then dive to periscope depth. He disappears! No sound, no more visual. He's just gone. I read somewhere that this is due to ships reaching their last waypoint. Is that what's happening here in this particular location? Thanks for any info.

I came across him by chance, and was way out of position. This time I'll just try to run the bastard down and use the DG before he vanishes into thin air!:D

That's just what I did. Ran him down and blew him to pieces! Ha!

Interested in trying rsrd out, but I get a slew of warnings when I try to enable RSRDC_RFB__V575 overtop of rfb_2.0 + rfb_2.0_Patch1:

"ADB_B5N2_Kate.cfg" has already been altered by the "RFB_2.0" mod.
"ADB_B5N2_Kate.eqp" has already been altered by the "RFB_2.0" mod.
"ADB_B5N2_Kate.sns" has already been altered by the "RFB_2.0" mod.
"ADB_D3A1_VAL.cfg" has already been altered by the "RFB_2.0" mod.
"ADB_D3A1_VAL.eqp" has already been altered by the "RFB_2.0" mod.
"ADB_D3A1_VAL.sns" has already been altered by the "RFB_2.0" mod.
"ADB_Kyushu_Q1W1.cfg" has already been altered by the "RFB_2.0" mod.
...
(that's the first of about 50 more like it, including .zon, .sim, .dat).

Unless I'm misreading the first post, I believe I have the correct version.

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions.

Those shold be normal conflicts if you're running the correct mods and looks like you are...Simply each one of those is a change made by the mod, so it tells you. Totally normal, just click and move on.

Quick question before I go breaking anything, the extra merchant ships (MFM 4.1 I believe) that are included in OM, would it be possible to add those to the Japanese roster without breaking RFB/RSRDC?

I didn't know missions to pick up people existed....

add on? mod? Never seen it myself but have landed agents in Japan, soldiers in phillipines and supplies, never had to pick up a pilot either yet.

Evening fellow Captains,

I am running SH4 1.5 with the following MODS:

(In order)
RFB 2.0
RFB 2.0 Patch 1
RSRDC_RFB 575
RSRDC_V5xx Patch 1

I followed the install instructions that came with RFB 2.0 and it said to install it first and then RSRDC. I did that and JSGME states that if I enable RSRDC it will overwrite a ton of stuff in RFB 2.0. As an experiment I accepted the overwrite. Now, I get a CTD when I am sailingin the open ocean during a campaign. I would be most grateful for some help. Thank you in advance.

Lurker,

Maybe you can help or know. Not sure if RSRD doe's this or just part of the game.

Did the Battle of Leyte Last night. In reality US planes sunk the Musashi Yamato class before it hit the strait.. In this SS US carrier planes are coming. Several large groups pass. I 've tried before to find the Center Force before they come through the San Bern S8's and time an attack when the US planes attack it...Not sure if they do, but most battles they do, so would be nice to get in an attack while the planes are in action...

Is this possible...I try not to look at ME, but wouldn't know how it times planes to attack, location, ect...

Just didn't know if you had anything to do with the planes and how they attack.

Okay, so I tried to reload the game that crashed on me, and no luck. It seems the file is corrupt. However, I started a completely new campaign from the Philippines and I am cruising around no problem, no CTD's.
I was in port when I was enabling/disabling mods and somehow the "wires" or "streams" got crossed.
The date was in 1943 and it locked up on me when I was trying to go through the Java Strates. My base was on the southwest coast of Australia. I do not remember the boat type, sorry Lurker. Maybe a porpoise class?

(In order)

have similar problem. same mod list.

history: under rfb1.52, i had, occasionally, couldn't load a saved game.Very occasionally, when torpedeo hit, would have ctd. restart mission and no problems, would sink target.

now, under rfb2, the unable to load 'saved game', over the time of restarting 3 patrols, got worse to the point that none of the 'in game' saved games will 'directly' load, with out ctd. what do i mean by 'in game' and 'directly'? i found that if i loaded the 'autosaved..leaving..port..' file, then start the mission and then once at sea, if i load the 'saved game', it would run.

this indirect loading, has worked every time.

For the first patrol, i sunk 4 merchants. started second patrol, sunk a merchant, then on second merchant, so far, with several trys (at least 8), when a torpedoe hits (mk10 or 24), i get ctd.

I know I asked about the MFM4.1 and porting it over to the Japanese side, I guess i really should have worded the question better and for that I am sorry.

Lurker do you have any plans to add that to RSRDC for the Japanese side?

I was hopeing that the "Sofu Gan" mod could be added as a small update or something. I really don't feel like manualy editing files to make it work.
