Look what I found at Guam- mid 1943
A tough little booger- took a hit from a Mark 23 and actually was blown clear out of the water. Reported as sunk the little sucker seemed to hold together pretty well all the same. This is how she looked on her way to the bottom.
Sorry for the darkness of the image, it was a dark night. I would not have detected this one at all were it not for the targer triangle illuminating as my scope passed over her. Kind of made me feel sort of exposed all the same to know there was another sub in the area that I had had no idea about. Mini sub, or not.
Still have no idea what she was doing in that location at that time of the war but I'm not complaining since it was a happy ending.

I also have a question about finding, well... anything really :D
I can also definitely appreciate that the ocean was not overrun with ships every mile. But my first RSRDC patrol was to sink enemy merchant shipping near the Marshall Islands. I cruise over there, and spent my entire fuel except for a return reserve searching, but didn't see a single other ship. Went back to base, got more fuel, came back, and did another search pattern all around the area but no luck. Same on a third tank of gas, and a 4th. I zig-zagged across a big area, at least in a 250 mile radius covered by going back and forth in an 8-mile separation square wave, without seeing any signs of life.
I also tried starting a new campaign, and got assigned to a different area, but didn't have any better luck with that one. The mission directed me to stay with 300 miles of the patrol point marked on the map, so I can't go *too* far looking for prey. But I'd like to find any old thing to sink :D
I'm sure there must be a trick to it that I haven't mastered yet. I just can't seem to locate anything in my assigned patrol areas. I'd be very thankful for any help about it. I have searched online for maps of shipping routes, and found a few but nothing with enough detail that would really help me find things. I tried extra search time looking for possible routes such as between the Marshalls and Truk, but again no luck. Thanks ;)

I usually just draw a radius around the area that I am given and patrol nearly the entire area. Don't limit yourself to a narrow search pattern, spread out a little. Sometimes the traffic is not where you might expect. That makes sense right? After all, they are trying to avoid being sank so adjusting their approach to avoid the obvious would seem well, obvious.
Also take a look at the map to make a best guess of the direction merchant traffic may be headed. For the Marshal Islands I would expect traffic to/from Truk and/or the Mariana Islands so I would patrol along a North / South axis to the west and try to cross the path of merchants regardless of whether they have shifted their approach or not- they still have to cross that North South axis at some point.
Also, a tactic used successfully was to patrol "in place" along a "likely" route of merchants and just see if the would come to you. You don't use up your fuel either so time is on your side... if the patience lasts is another story.
Know the limits of your detection equipment and adjust your search to take advantage of whatever range you have. This will vary quite a bit as the war progresses and you gain access to better equipment.
You could also simply move out to sea about 30 miles from a likely port and just wait for traffic coming or going. Thirty miles is a good place since ships will not spawn with 20 miles of your location so there won't be any out going ships if you are within 20 miles of the port of origin.
In RSRD the ships are there. Finding them is up to you but once you find the sweet spot you can make up a lot of lost ground in a short amount of time. Several ships in a single day is not out of the question once you find the alley. Maybe this map can also help you out.
http://webpages.charter.net/joecorrado1/Jap_Shipping_LanesTiny.gif (http://webpages.charter.net/joecorrado1/Jap_Shipping_Lanes.gif)
Sometimes I flat out ignore (usually just postpone) my assigned mission. Here is why. Unlike the stock game, in RSRD when you get flash traffick about IJN unit activity in a certain location, IT IS REAL. If you are near the location mentioned, get your steel ass over there. Every time I've been near the location identified in teh flash traffick I've run across at least a few ships, sometimes even an entire TF.
One time, I responded to one of these messgaes in "The Slot", just NW of Guadalcanal. I ran across a large IJN TF composed of heavy cruisers and destroyers. As I was moving to intercept, another large TF showed up on my radar. This one was on a collision course with the IJN TF. Not being sure if it was foe or friendly, I moved in to investigate. It was TF of American cruisers and destroyers. The American line of ships actually headed toward the IJN column and crossed the T. The IJN column saw this and turned tail the other direction. I was hoping to see a big battle but it did not happen. Regardless, it was pretty awesome and the ships are out there. Just change up your patrolling strategy a little and respond to the flash messages even if you are more than a few days away becuase they tend to happen in groups over a period of 5 or 6 days. Good luck.

RSRDC Upgrade Readme
This is a general upgrade for all “supported” versions of RSRDC.
This is a list of the following changes:
Campaigns
Added 97 Ultra Messages (Convoy Locations)
Revised Japanese Mine Fields, especially around the entrance of Japanese control harbors.
Revised all Japanese Harbor Traffic. If a users wants to do his “Cary Grant imitation” i.e. Destination Tokyo, and attack Japanese harbor, the user will now find that the ships will “react” to him and if they are ASW capable, will go after him.
Error corrections to some of the IJN convoy that were detected during code review.
Added OMPaula Class Oiler to IJN tanker convoys.
Revised “ALL” ContactReport missions under the DynamicMiss folder i.e. upgraded the messages, lowered the required amount of tonnage, and type of ship required to complete the mission.
Revised “ALL” the photo recon missions. Using a “stealth” ship target, the user will now have to take a periscope photo of the target area. The “stealth” ship target is located under the “photo” icon on the nav display. If you have “map contacts” turned on you will see a “green” ship contact under the icon.
Special note: The concept of using a invisible ship as a “photo” target was first put forth by “tater” in one of his “Improved Campaign” mods
Roster
Added two “stealth” ship target
Sea
Revised ASW weapons loadouts for the following ASW ships based on ONI documentation supplied by LukeFF:
Type B
Type C
Type D
Kamikaze
Minekaze
Mutsuki
Matsu
Added Target1 & Target2 (“stealth” ship target)

Thanks for the reply JoeCorrado. I had the same thought and did do quite a lot of N/S searching between the islands and Truk, but still didn't manage to find anything even in several tanks of gas (I'm using RFB, which I believe has some effect on range).
Maybe I've just been unlucky. I'll keep trying :). Is there anything I can do to increase the 'random' traffic just a little bit in this mod? I do think the vanilla game has too high levels of random encounters, but I could stand just a little more now. The occasional lone ship going from here to there, and so on.
You don't use up your fuel either so time is on your side... if the patience lasts is another story.
Actually that's another question I have. If I go to 0 throttle, 0 knots speed, on the surface, it seems like I still do use fuel. If I'm on time accel I can see the fuel reserves going down, although I'm not sure why. Maybe that's to model use of the engines for purposes other than propulsion, like generating electricity to run other ship systems, or something?
JoeCorrado
06-05-08, 09:09 PM
I never noticed that fuel useage was even noticeable submerged or on the surface when stationary. I'll have to give it a try to see but it should be modeled to reflect very little use at all and that mostly for station keeping.
Anyway, check out the map that I posted- click the map for a full sized version. RSRD stays pretty faithful to the shipping routes has been my experience.

I'm not sure how this is modeled in the game, but IRL the engines were not directly connected to the prop shafts. Rather, the engines were connected to generators which powered the batteries. So even on surface running the screws were actually battery-powered, with the diesel engines topping up the batteries.
So I suppose even if surfaced and screws not turning some amount of fuel would be consumed in topping up the batteries, which would also be powering electrical equipment such as radar, lights, etc.

I'm not sure how this is modeled in the game, but IRL the engines were not directly connected to the prop shafts.
That's true, however the batteries weren't actually being "topped off" constantly. In most Fleet type subs it was like this(simplified):
On the surface the diesels would drive the generators(one per each diesel, directly connected), which could be used to supply power to the electric motors or to recharge the batteries. The electric motors(4) would drive the props through a reduction gear(1 per shaft). Underwater the power to the electric motors was naturally supplied by the batteries. Lurker and Captn Scurvi,
I am running RFB1.5 and RSRD 3.95 (patched) enabled by JGSME by the BOOK as instructed on page 1 of the RFB1.5 thread.
I noticed an omission in the integration of both mods, namely:
The ships added by RSRD to RFB do NOT have the SCAF red aiming line in the recognition Manual as ALL the RFB ships DO have.
Maybe the newly created ships were not yet "blessed" by Captn Scurvis SCAF?
(maybe only a silhouette pic would do the job?)
Hope this helps to finetune your marvellous mod. After reading Clay Blairs fascinating "Silent Victory" and then reading that U guys modelled the mod after it
I knew that this is it!
Thanks, Trebb

SCAF is in the process of being modified for RFB, whereby the historically-known mast/funnel heights (and draft & tonnages) will be the values given to you by the game. Some ships have better data than others, so it will be all the more imperative to check your firing solution by multiple methods and to get as close as possible before firing.

It fascinatiing reading all the technical know how from you chaps. The attention to detail is truly amazing but, are we trying to achieve the impossible here?
This is but a game, a simulation of what took place 60 odd years ago? The diesel engines on a sub, like in a boat/ship were running at some power, all the time, to power the generators I would imagine, so fuel was a constant drain until "finished with engines" in port; then the sub would be powered probably from shore.
What has been achieved with the mods is phenomenal and you should all be highly congratulated, but it is, only a game.
RFB team,
RFB 1.5 already is SCAF enabled (at least some beta or better).
My point in the above thread was that none of the ships added by
RSRD (added, as is is on top in JGSME) has the red line and thus data of SCAF.
My conclusion was that RSRD is the one without SCAF support.
If I am correct, that would be a pity, its preventing an "universal" targetting technique...:hmm:
Cheers, Trebb

It would certainly be nice to have all the ships integrated in RSRD for RFB, but maybe some element of uncertainty is good, too. ;)
Well AKD,
I think you mix up uncertainty with inaccuracy my friend...:88)
I'm new to playing Silent Hunter 4 v 1.5 and to this forum. I downloaded and installed the RSRDC mods per the insturctions in this thread (RSRDC_V355_for V15 and RSRDC_V355_Patch5). The Readme file indicates that there should be new missions and patrols available but when I'm in the game it appears that only the original "stock" game missions and patrols are listed. Is there a way to determine that the mods installed properly (I did use JSGME for installation and also ran the game files to snapshot task which listed the file changes from the original installation) and should the new missions and patrols show up as choices in the game? Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this. Thanks.

RSRD is an all new campaign layer. The missions are those assigned to you during the campaign.

There are new historical missions and war patrols in RSRD, as well. If these are not appearing, then something went wrong in the install process.

I used 7-Zip and installed the files in subfolders that I created under the Mods folder. I thought that I would see new/different Single Missions and Single Patrols from the stock game but I have the exact same Missions/Patrols titles under the Mods directory as I do in the orginal game Missions/Patrols folders. Perhaps, this is the way it should be and I'm just making an incorrect assumption? The game is running fine. Thanks.

You have a “install problem” Please deinstall RSRDC with JSGME. The go to the MOD folder and look for RSRDC_V355_for V15 folder, go into that folder and do you see a second “RSRDC_V355_for V15” folder or do you see a “Data” & “Support” folder. If you see a second “RSRDC_V355_for V15” folder then you decompressed the mod incorrectly. The file structure for a valid JSME install is “mod name” then a data & support folder under it. If you have “two” RSRDC folder then “move” the second folder up one level

On a different note; for those evenings when there is not enough time to load up a "Patrol", try this;
FBM 441117 USS Spadefish (SS-411) - Engagement of Convoy HI-81

RSRDC Eye candy fix
This corrects some of the “eye candy” issues some users have commented about. It has to do with “ship wakes”. This is a “non-critical” fix for RSRDC and will load on “any” version of the mod (v14 / v15).
Install instructions:
Use JSGME to install.
Install “fix” after loading RSRDC plus patches.
Can be install at “any time” ( don’t have to be inport” )

I have TMO + RSRD installed. I have to say that I'm glad that I came back to the subsim community when I did. When I left SHIV was still floundering with all of the out-of-the-box bugs and there was much doom and gloom about patches. There were many debate threads about "They've abandoned us."
I have to say that RSRD makes SHIV a whole new game and really freshens it up. Great job Lurker.

Hey Lurker, FYI. The aircraft cfg files in the latest version of RSRD overwrite all the work Ducimus did 'up-armoring' the aircraft in TMO 152. The file "ALBS_H8K.cfg" is a good example.
The RSRD version of the file does not contain this:
[Loadout 1]
Name=16x250Kg Bombs
Type=2
[Loadout 2]
Name=8xDepth Charge
Type=5
Just thought you should know. Or am I worried about nothing here? Anyway, are there any other areas that might be a problem?

That's what I'm talking about. Whenever I get into a patrol I go to my Nav map and do the best I can to recreate whatever shipping lanes were present in the timeframe and area I'll be operating. I wonder if there's a map tool mod that adds a tool that will allow you to draw curved lines.

They are out there. I am running TMO 152 with RSRD 371 patch 8 and this is what can be had if you think about hwere the ships must travel and set your search pattern to take advantage of any choke points. - This is the passage between Borneo and Celebes late May 1942. They were everywhere at that time, but 2 months earlier the Japanese would not have been making the push south and the pickings would have been much slimmer although the same choke point would have existed.
As you can see, Lurker put my patrol area close enough to take advantage but with a large enough patrol radius I "could" have gone chasing off away from the most logical patrol area. Some times the obvious is not quite as obvious as this- but then again, that choice of where to patrol within the given area is all up to the captain's descretion.
Choose wisely young Skywalker. :hmm:

I'm not looking for like a road map to success. I actually more interesting in tools that will allow me to log my own and create a map with what intellegence I've pick up over my encounters during parols in a particular boat.
Oddly enough I seem to just be missing shipping at my patrol zones with RSRD. My first patrol with the USS Tambor was a good one simply because I caught an IJN task force with two HIRYU's about 700nm WNW of Wake. I took a flat top. I lost the sound contact while I dropped back into a shadow position to recharge batteries and reload. I proceed on to my patrol area which was 130nm SE of Okinawa. The only contacts I had were aircraft. Of course I couldn't do much prowling due to fuel reserves. I was hoping to get extremely lucky and get a Maru or two moving from the East coast Japanese ports down to the Phillipines, Boreno, Formosa (Tiawan), etc to be dumped in my lap.
The patrol I'm on now sent me just on the West side of Okinawa in the East China Sea. I expected to be almost walking across a sea of steel as past experiences there have always been fruitful. Not a single thing. Now they're sending me back SSE of Okinawa.
It's March 11th, 1942 in my game.

tried rsrd with TMO 152... got some stuttering on the water... but dont know if it was caused by a "collision", heres my mod structure:
REL_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_152

RSRDC_V371_Patch8
comments are welcome...
NOTE: this is the first time I have run 152.... so I have no comparison to standard 152 vs RSRD mod 152
thanks
There is no problems I know of with TMO 152
Hey Lurker, FYI. The aircraft cfg files in the latest version of RSRD overwrite all the work Ducimus did 'up-armoring' the aircraft in TMO 152. The file "ALBS_H8K.cfg" is a good example.
The RSRD version of the file does not contain this:
[Loadout 1]
Name=16x250Kg Bombs
Type=2
[Loadout 2]
Name=8xDepth Charge
Type=5
Just thought you should know. Or am I worried about nothing here? Anyway, are there any other areas that might be a problem?
.
Yes I'm well aware of this, however the changes in TMO 152 conflict with some setting in the campaign layer. Removely or changes to RSRDC files may cause a CTD

In the slot south of Celebes there were two nice vessels but the shallows would have prevented me from even hitting periscope depth. They laughed at me as they cruised by and all I could do was shake my fist at them. But, when I made the choke point into the slot out of the Celebes Sea I got two fat tankers. No aviation fuel made it to Java:up:

That's about usual for my proceedure. Cruise at Standard Bell for the best fuel effiecency and try to use 2/3rds Bell after that.
Here's a question that I acutally have been wondering about though. In order to charge your batteries you burn marine diesel. Makes sense, I'm not stranger to this, I work on 100+ ton boats and the same prinicples are applied for generators and the like.
With that in mind does switching between diesel and electric engines conserve that much or if any fuel at all? It seemed in SHIII it was definitely noticable. But, I've been in situations in SHIV where I'm trying to conserve every gallon of fuel I have in order to return to a re-fueling station so I'll switch between running on the surface and submerged, typically at 2/3rds Bell.

The submarine is a surface vessel that can submerge for a time. With that in mind stay on the surface as long as possible. As you recharge batteries you burn more fuel(in game). I do not submerge until I absolutely have too. This helps greatly with reducing fuel consumption.

The slot is the nickname given in WWII to the waters running through the Solomons, northwest to southeast (and vice-versa, of course). It is actually New Georgia Sound:

The slot was here.
In August 1942 (1st Battle) it was actually a force of cruisers that smashed our own force of cruisers. A pretty good synopsis of the action around Savo Sound (Iron Bottom Sound) can be found in the book "Luck of the Draw" by Captain Kenneth Ruiz, USN who was serving abourd the Vincennes at the time and ended up in the drink along with so many others.

Hi - I am running V355 and patch 5...
I was reversing out of the shallow entrance to Rabul harbour at periscope depth, with a DD bearing down on me, when a friendly aircraft appeared and dropped a bomb on the DD, and sunk it - excellent!
I have never seen that happen before - have you?
Later I was patrolling around Truk, and spotted two ships at anchor, and Next Target showed they were a Fuso and Yamato. I crept in from the east at periscope depth, and positioned myself between them. I fired bow torpedoes at the Yamato, and stern at the Fuso. I hit the Fuso and sunk it, and got only one hit on the Yamato as it started to sprint away (how it can get to 17 knots in one ships length is a bit of a mystery).
I forged ahead of the Yamato to fire my remaining stern torpedoes, but when I next looked through the periscope, it had DISAPPEARED , although a blue contact line still showed on the map. No sinking showed up in the log.
Can this be explained?
Cheers

You and your crew are entering THE TWILIGHT ZONE
I've seen the same thing happen to the Yamato at Truk, and don't know exactly what caused it. My Yamato was docked(didn't react to the torpdoes), but the torpedoes and the resulting bow down attitude made it drift forward a bit over a ship's length, where it promptly vanished. I was on the surface about six kilometers away watching the whole event, so I am certain it did not just sink or sail out of my view. This happened a long time ago, and iirc the mods used were TM 1.7.x, the relevent RSRDC version and NSM4 Classic.

I'm running RSRD 355 patch 6.
I was sent from Manila to patrol off north of Luzon, near Formosa twice in a row. Manila fell to Japs before I returned so I managed(just barely) to sail all the way to Java, my new Base. (By the Way, I didn't see any message telling me to do so)
I have now been given the Same mission, again....but no way am I going to sail all the way to that same Patrol Area north of the P.I. Is this a glitch? How do I get out of the same repeating mission? I tried just sitting outside the Java port and sending status reports hoping for a new mission, but no luck.

Is the Battle of Wake Island included in RSRDC?
I watched the above program on the History Channel, and thought it would be fun giving the Marines on Wake a little helping hand. I couldn't find a 'Single Patrol' or other shorty-type mission in the menu, so I started a new career with the USS Triton (SS-201) [Tambor Class]. I picked the Tambor Class just 'cause I had never commanded one. Anyway, I departed Pearl on Dec. 8 and arrived in the Wake Island vicinity on the night of Dec 12, when the battle should have been going great guns. Round and round the Island I went for the next 5 days, but never saw a sign of the Japanese Fleet (or any American ships/aircraft either).
I departed Wake on the 18th, refueled at Midway, then headed for Japanese waters. I sank 4 cargo ships within the 96 hour patrol, so there are ships (i.e. targets) available. But nothing at Wake ???
I'm using:

The Battle of Wake Island is not accurately represented in RSRDC. There are some IJN units that are in the general area of Wake during the “second” attempt to invade Wake in late Dec 1941.

I remember having that same setup and thinking, can I make it. Using the Porpoise, as I remember, I made it OK at 10 knots. Just had to watch out for any prolonged chases at full or flank speed. I had enough fuel for a safe return to home base, Surabaya.
As for finding targets on patrols, you just have to learn the convoy routes. I've been using RSRD since its beginning and have always been able to find targets.
Since running RSRD and having virtually completed an entire war career I have never seen more than a single ship and zero convoy sightings. Is RSRD OVER accurate? :damn: Also, when I get a message about an IJN impending location and am able to arrive before time, and lurk, - nothing happens.
You have to use some logic when determining where the ships are likely to be in your patrol zone. Some of the more fruitful ones are:
Chokepoints
Approaches to major ports (i.e., Truk, Rabaul)
Near the coastlinesIn addition, do download the map image posted up above. It gives a good idea of where the ships are in RSRDC. In my latest patrol (July - August 1943) I picked off 4 single merchants traveling in the vicinity of the Marshall Islands. You've just gotta know where to look for them. ;)

Sargo Sub
1st patrol Manila Dec 10 Sent to the Luzon Patrol Star. Returned and refitted, then went out again and finished patrol returning to Manila.
2nd Patrol Manila Dec 23 Sent to Luzon Star. Completed Mission (star turned grey)...Manila no longer a port, so i went to new Homebase at Surabaya. Arrived, barely. Mission Completed (Star portion). I might not have completed 'sinking of Merchants' mission....I'm not sure.
3rd Patrol Surabaya Jan 28 Mission again is to go ALL the way back up to the same Luzon Star.....Can't get there and back, I'm sure.
Something is not right.
Will look into it

Okay. I went on and sailed all the way to North of Luzon. The star greyed out Very quickly, but I loitered for another full 48 hours anyway. I returned to Surabaya. Docked as End of patrol. It showed I had completed the Luzon mission, but had not completed secondary of sinking merchant shipping. Next patrol, date Feb 11...I get the same Luzon Patrol Mission!

I really do think you have to sink those ships to move on. See, your first objective is to reach the Luzon. Once done, you must sink ships. If you did not, then the game will send you back until that objective is done.

What you have is a corrupted install. With the repeating “Luzon Strait” mission the system is saying “I can’t find the correct mission”. I strongly recommend you deinstall all mods, confirm that that you have a “clean” SH4 1.5 install, the reinstall RSRDC_v355_for_V15 and then RSRDC_V355_Patch6. Just a FYI, the file that controls all the mission assignments has not change since it was first put out in March. I conducted a systems check today and patrol assignments are being generated correctly.

Is the Battle of Wake Island included in RSRDC?
I'm using:
SH4 v1.4
Trigger Maru Overhaul
RSRDC_P3_TMO_V325
Perhaps Wake was added later?
The Battle of Wake Island is not accurately represented in RSRDC. There are some IJN units that are in the general area of Wake during the “second” attempt to invade Wake in late Dec 1941.
OK, thanks for confirming. Not really a big surprise since Wake happened so early in the war. This has been the first time in any career that I have been able to get out of Pearl and into a good position early enough to maybe 'Change History'.
Maybe 'someone' out there will develop an early war/Wake Island 'War Patrol' or 'Single Mission'. Perhaps one already exists, and I just haven't found it. Comments? Suggestions? Just for curious, How accurate is RSRDC for the Philippines area in Dec., '41?
I've also been doing some research on 'who was where' on Dec 7, 1941. I was pleasently surprised to find out that we had a pretty substantial submarine force already in place at both Pearl and Manila. Good thing the Japs concentrated on Capitol Ships, and pretty much left the sub force alone as 'not worth the trouble'. I've only worked up as far as the Salmon Class boats, but here is a short breakdown:
Manila/Philippines Theater:
4-S-Boats
6-Porpose Class (2 refitting Cavite)
5-Salmon Class (1 refitting Cavite, 1 'on patrol')
Pearl Harbor:
0-S-Boats
2-'V' Boats (Barracuda and Argonaut)
1-Narwhal Class (Narwhal was docked at Pearl, the Nautilus was refitting San Diego)
Dolphin (a 'V-7' boat) was docked Pearl, and was one of the first units to start firing back.
3-Porpoise Class (Plunger was docked, Pollack and Pompano were en route, arrived Pearl on 9 Dec.)
I haven't worked on the Tambor or Mackerel Class boats yet. The first Gato Class boat was not commissioned until 31 Dec., 1941, so there weren't any Gatos available.
Concerning the Battle of Midway:
I did manage to get into the vicinity of the battle, and was able to act as a spectator on the external camera. Pretty exciting! Unfortunatly, I was never able to get into a good shooting position (I was commanding the Narwhal at the time). Thanks to whomever got the battle graphics together for Midway. Better than the movie!!

I tried just sitting outside the Java port and sending status reports hoping for a new mission, but no luck.
You won't be assigned a new mission unless you've completed the current one.
You could just rearm and 'fill-er-up' at Jave, THEN finish your mission, rather than ending your patrol and getting the same one again.
BTW, I have been able to start in Java, go to the Luzon area, and return in an S-Boat! Remember, I said I did it, I didn't say it was easy (and I didn't say how many times I tried it, either  )

Just to be sure that I'm reading post #1 correctly, RSRDC_TMOv15_V371.7z (filefront name) is the latest update to RSRDC when using Trigger Maru Overhaul, yes?
Now, which TMO should I be installing? I guess its time to take the plunge and get SH4 v1.5. I have no interest in U-Boats, but to continue to use your really neat-o mods, I'm gonna have to do it.

A new American career begins normally with RSRDC 355 patch 5. I now have these MODS enabled by JSGME:
ClassicBetterScopes_NomoGraph_V15b1
ROW Sound Effect v_9
GreenLamp
NSM4 light
ROW PE3 Special effects for NSM4 Light #2c
MINI_Chrono_1.5
UBM Mission Pack
Silent Skins U-9D2
Enviromental 4.6 mod
ROW Realistic Camera with sway vs_2d
Smaller Underwater Marker
RealBinoculars Mod v.1.0
black smoke2
PoulEnglishSpeech
GirlInEveryPort
RSRDC_V355_for_V15
RSRDC_V355_Patch5
When I replace 5 with the RSRDC V355 Patch 6, and then try to start an American Career, I get a crash closing down SH4.
Any ideas?

I really like this mod :D but I don't understand patrol orders system. It's october 1942, I sail from Midway with orders to patrol East China Sea. After 4 days of sailing I got message traffic that there is big convoy heading to Solomon islands. I thought "Great but I am to far for intercept them". After next 3 days I got next message, another convoy heading Solomon..:damn: Ok I reached China Sea. Finished 72 hours patrol wihtout any kill. Next order "Patrol Philipine Sea by 555 km". Huge area but maybe I will have more luck this time. Meanwhile I got 5 other messages about big convoys with support for Solomon Sea. Great but I am about 15.000 km from Solomon...I reached Philipine Sea, started patrol, after 50 hours my first victim, 3500 tons  . I patoled all area with only 1 kill, returned to Midway coz out of fuel. Meanwhile I got few other messages with many convoys heading to Solomon or Celebs Sea.
My question is: why in almost all time I have to patroling the areas where traffic is small and there are areas where big battles continues ? I know I do not have to keep all orders and I can sail to this places alone but I do not see point in don't follow orders from commanders...or should I ?

Dont worry about your ingles amigo.
the patrol orders / and ultra messages are programmed to be like that, sometimes you are too far away, but sometimes you can reach the projected intersect point...
if you get the message, plot the location with the ruler and see the distance from your current position, see if putting on speed you can get there ahead of the enemy convoy/task force as you get a time to be there... and be patient, the japs can be delayed on the way, but they show up (I have to carriers to my credit by intercepts due to ultra).
If you can reach in time, you should try for the intercept, your squadron commander wont chastise you for "steering to the sound of guns" as is every captains privilege, after all, the ship that put the finishing torpedoes on Bismark was more than 600 miles away when her posit was radioed and it took him some 30 hrs at 20+ knots to get there, albeit with low fuel..
Ok, now all is clear  Thank you
My another question is about these messages, how should I read this: "Estimate will attempt these resupply landings on starting 111000000Z"

Sorry, I typed the order wrong, but installed them in the right order. Hope I didn't confuse anybody.
BTW, its working OK, no problems except the 7 Sub Chasers and 4 or 5 DDs guarding the Philippine invasion force. :arrgh!:
Config notes: I run NSM, PE, RFB, RSRD in that order; RFB and RSRD are as updated as I can find (1.51 and v395_Patch3 respectively). I always start early '42 or '41. Primarily the group that starts at Cavite (Task Force 35??), and I've done very small bits under SubPac. 100% realism, which for RFB means everything but Map Updates and External View checked.
Advanced apologies if this has been brought up before, but I couldn't find it, so: I've never been given a non-patrol mission. No photo, or lifeguard, or anything else. It's no problem, really, as I've racked up a lot of single-merchant kills (convoys would be about 1943, I'm guessing?) in the zones I've been given. Just curious, want to see if something's wrong with my set-up.
I've also never been attacked by aircraft, even though I always surface run and (once I get it) have air-search radar running constantly. South China, Java, Celebes, and Sulu Seas are my preferred haunts, which all put me way inside Japanese air cover, right?

The lack of Japanese air cover is quite strange. Strikes me as an odd design decision, since Japanese planes were encountered quite often historically, and subs were forced to run submerged during the day.
The number of unescorted single ship contacts also seems quite high.

It appears that you had OM installed at one time. It appears that “sometimes” JSGME does not remove all the directories/folders. To correct this problem do the following.
Deinstall “all” mods with JSGME
Go to Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Roster
Remove the panama folder
Reinstall selected mods with JSGME

I don't see anything LOL about it. The mod errs in the other direction, totally removing the Japanese air force. I uninstalled the mod today, after spending almost the entire month of July 1943 in enemy waters without so much as a single SD radar contact. Nor did I spot a single enemy destroyer. It was like maneuvering my sub in peacetime. Very boring, and not in keeping with the memoirs I have read.

Lurker everytime I go out to sea I NEVER see anything. Maybe a small convoy here and there. BUT just the other day after being on patrol for around 35 days I FINALLY hit the jackpot. A 51 ship convoy heading directly towards me.
After a small amount of positioning I was at a perfect set up for a bow shot on a large merchant and a stern shot on a medium. But I be damned them faulty torpedoes plagued me that day. Large merchant escaped unhurt, Medium blew sky high.
Had to give credits for such an awesom mod

The lack of Japanese air cover is quite strange. Strikes me as an odd design decision, since Japanese planes were encountered quite often historically, and subs were forced to run submerged during the day.
Lol. A lot of simmers were complaining that there were *too* many planes in the stock game.
By July of 1943 the following events had happened:
Coral Sea, Midway, Cape Esperance, Santa Cruz (this is going from memory), so the cream of the IJN air fleet was gone.
Guadalcanal and half the solomons campaign, so the Imperial Army air component had gotten a kick in the but.
Bear in mind the japs didnt produce flying schools as the allies did, where do you think the RAF trained his pilots, maybe Canada? and a lot of them, ditto for the US be it AAF or Navy Carrier groups, it took about 1 1/2 yrs to make combat ready pilots (and those were simple planes)
So the japs didnt have a great air component available... I dont recall (meaning its 0603 local on a saturday morining and I dont want to search a book) if the first Carrier raids on Rabaul had taken place.
You can allways find planes close to the main jap airbases/anchorages, I suggest you do a trip to Truk, to Tawi Tawi or similar... believe me if you find planes there is something nice close by.
My mistake after reading lurkers 10:32 AM post... it would be impossible to model all real life, now I know only ASW dedicated planes and airfields are included.

Did the possibility occur to you that you were in the wrong place at the wrong time?
July of '43, where were you?
Java Sea and the channel east of Singapore. I should be smack in the middle of Japanese air bases at Java, Borneo and Malaya. Not one plane. It doesn't ring true to me.

All IJAAF/IJN airfields that are in RSRDC are based on research from this website
http://www.pacificwrecks.com/provinces/index.html
The only airfields used are ones that had aircraft that had some kind of ASW / ASUW capability assign to it. I did not add “ever little” airfield that supported some kind of aircraft that were not normal used for hunting submarines. Yes you may be in an area where you think there should be a lot of aircraft; however their job was “not” ASW.

I love this mod, Lurker.
Last patrol I ventured into Bungo Straits and had some success. I was on my way out when I picked up a flood of sound contacts. Turned into a 25 ship task force including about 4-5 carriers, 5-6 battleships, a number of CA and CL's, and a DD/DE screen like you would not believe. The fact that I was able to position myself in a perfect ambush was sheer luck. I was able to send a Shokaku class CV running bow first to the bottom and a Hiryu class CV blowin' sky high. I almost took a second Hiryu down as well.
Seeing as were both San Diego boys I'll have to buy you a beer one of these days.

A simple question: In the mission orders, when it gives the coordinates of the patrol area (coords of the center of Star) and then says "...by XXXnm...", does the distance refer to radius from the center point of the star or to the diameter of a circle drawn around the Star??

I start a new Career in Manila with an Sargo Class ( 22 Torpedos). I finished first Patrolorder and got a new Patrol Zone SE of Formosa. I found a small Convoy with one Minesweeper, one DD, one Middle old Oiltanker, one Large Modern Composite and one Small old Oiltanker.
The Weathercondition shows Stormy Sea, light Fog. The Minesweeper detected me on 800 Yards ( Periskoplevel, Silent Running, Engine Stopped, no extended Periskope). He started a Waterbombing Run, without Bombs, passed me and got 2 Torpedohits from my Reartubes( 800 Yard Distance). After the first hit he´s spinned around like a Whirly, after the second Hit he sunk ( Magnetic Ignition).
The engaging DD got 2 Hits ( First on 1000 Yard, Second on 500 Yard), after the First he stopped and a few Minutes after the second Hit he sunk ( Magnetic Ignition).
The Middle Tanker got one Keelbreaker on 1200 Yard (Magnetic Ignition ).
I surfaced and attacked the small Tanker with Gun and Torpedo. The Torpedo detonates after 500 Yard, 400 Yards to early( Magnetic Ignition). The Small Tanker explodes in a large Fireball after 10 HE Rounds from my 3.50 Cal Cannon.
So, the Large Modern Composite, 230 AP/HE Rounds and 16 Torpedos left. Should be enough Ammo for one Vessel, i thought.
Coming to an hard End, 3 Torpedos Hit the Freighter 2 on his Left Side at 15 Ft ( Contact) and 1 beside his Rudder. Also 200 AP/HE Rounds from my Gun. 14 Torpedos were Duds or Detonate to Early.
And the Freighter escapes to Home. :shifty:

Posted in Trigger Maru Thread!
After this Engagement i sended a Status Message and got Order to Patrol in an Area of my Choice or returning to Base.
Im now 4 NM in front of Manila Habour and got no Refuel Icon, 3/4 of Fuel, no Torpedos, no Gun Shells. A few Ships sighted ( Friendly). Thats all.
I will now start a new Installation of SH4 1.4b with TM and RSRDC and a Second Installation of SH4- Uboat with OM and Environments. Maybe it work. The SH4 1.4b also for FORTS from AOTD. :)

Damnation! another bug in RSRD version.
Loaded stern tubes with acoustic torpedoes on Balao in Dec 44 and set off. When I fired them, out came mark 23s and reloads were mark 23s.
And, off Formosan harbour, fired every single torpedo at a coastal defence vessel, stationery after first hit, every one hit, everyone detonated and ship is still afloat!!!

Hi,
I've had a problem with the Photo recon mission (no, NOT what you think)
I was assigned to photograph Yap, Ulithi and someplace else and found the "stealth ship" and took the photo, yet the mission was always "incomplete".
What's wrong there?
I thought I had to end the patrol (bring the photos home) yet the mission remained incomplete, even though I could view the photos.

Speaking of Natural Sinking Mechanics...
...I'm totally new here and I didn't really spend enough time in the stock version to make a fair comparison, but my initial reaction to the sinking in RFB/RSRD/PE is "yeah right." Maybe its just a common problem to the game engine but everytime I sink a ship by splitting it into two halves with a nice clean right angle cut, I cringe. Was that true in stock as well? Not tryin' to be critical...just sayin'

I think it is, the mod deals with the underlying mechanism by which ships are sunk (flood enough compartments) and didn't touch the graphical representation AFAIK.

NSM will run with RSRDC, but with a few quirks, and those quirks will remain even with TMO installed. To break it down a bit:
1. You essentially have stock aircraft Hit Points with your current config
2. Some ships might show quirky sinking behavior, as their zone files haven't been altered by NSM
3. Some ships will go asplodie with a single torpedo. Said ships are those loaded with any cargo other that freight, and are introduced by RSRDC. NSM wasn't designed with that in mind
4. By installing NSM after PE3 Special Effects for NSM, you effectively lose all Special Effects
5. If you're playing with the U-Boats, NSM will not work correctly, as no allied ships' .zon files are touched by that mod. Random quirkiness may ensue.
Proposed installation order:
If you play with US Subs:

Hi, a few points
- Maybe that is deliberate, but for my taste there are (still) too many single merchants and too few convoys and no patrolling warships.
AFAIK in 1944, the IJN got around to convoy basically every merchant, yet when I do a patrol in the Luzon straits in 1944 I still run into single merchants.
- Merchants are generally not armed enough. And it seems there are some that cannot be armed at all, like the "Hog Island type A", which comes far too often anyway.
Not so much the problem with the Hog Islanders themselves, except they could be renamed into somthing else as no original hog Islander served in the japanese merchant marine.
The problem is more that they're always unarmed.

Yep. My one RSRD patrol consisted of 4 unescorted merchants and no armed Japanese units. RSRD seems to take a fairly easy stock campaign and make it even easier.
Add patrol boat escorts to 75% of the merchants.

From the RSRDC Phase II Readme that in the Support Folder
The major change is a complete rewrite of the “Single Merchant / Convoys” campaign layers that were originally in Phase I. Using the Senji Yuso Sendan Shi (Wartime Transportation Convoys History), by Shinshichiro Komamiya, RSRDC has recreated 1055 convoys from early 1942 to the end of war and rebuild all the single merchant and tanker shipping routes.

Weapons loadouts on merchants are "stock" and I made no changes in that area. If you have "documented" weapons loadouts for IJN merchants I will be glad to look at them.

Yep. My one RSRD patrol consisted of 4 unescorted merchants and no armed Japanese units.
'ALL" IJN ship movements are based on information from this site
http://www.combinedfleet.com/kaigun.htm
and
The major change is a complete rewrite of the “Single Merchant / Convoys” campaign layers that were originally in Phase I. Using the Senji Yuso Sendan Shi (Wartime Transportation Convoys History), by Shinshichiro Komamiya, RSRDC has recreated 1055 convoys from early 1942 to the end of war and rebuild all the single merchant and tanker shipping routes.
IRT
RSRD seems to take a fairly easy stock campaign and make it even easier.
I will tell you what I've told others, If you are dissatisfied with my work, please uninstall RSRDC and play with the "stock" campaigns

Just curious if someone could maybe explain to me whats going on here. Im in October of 42 and have just been offered a new model submarine (balao).
Problem is after I except it I mysteriously find myself transferred to Mare Is. California. I tried starting a new patrol then ending it and transferring but transer is not available.
That part of the campaign is part of TMO and RSRDC.

Thanks, just more curious to know if it was normal behavior.
And thanks for all the hardwork in doing what ubisoft's programmers get paid to do. Just goes to show that in order to receive the best from a dev team they must have a passion for what they do.
Kudos.
And to those who seem to find to many single merchants..convoys do exist...i lost count at around 17-18, and ALL of these got away from me.....forgot to switch the pistol to contact and watched all 4 fish detonate 1000yrd from target...made for one hell of a depth charge avoidance drill.

The problem is that the devs created the weapons nodes for the 1.5 merchants, but they didn't put any weapons in place. The next version of RFB will correct this (the Hog Island will have around 4 20mm cannon and one 3-inch gun).
As for the Japanese not having any Hog Islanders, this is from ONI 208-J, 1944:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/LukeFF/SH4/HogIslandJP.jpg
Hog Islanders also made their way into the Soviet merchant fleet and will also appear there in the next version of RFB.

Managed to put some weps on the hog islanders myself, but a version from people who know what they're doing is certainly better :)
Re the convoys, i ran into one last night, consisting of an aux gunboat, a old destroyer, a large modern and a large old, a medium tanker and two modern troop transports.
Daylight periscope attack, 3 Mk18s on the leading gunboat, apparently got speed wrong, one Mk18 clipped the stern and disabled the gunboat.
Shot two Mk18s from the stern tubes at a troop transport and sank it, destroyer came charging, shot 3 Mk23s at the DD but missed. Suddenly I heard "bang" and "she's going down"! One of my torps had randomly smacked into the other troop transport and sank it!
Made another submerged attack on the crippled gunboat and sank it.
Made a night surface attack on the rest of the bunch, firing two each at all surviving three merchants. Hit all three, the tanker with one (stayed afloat), the old large with two (went down) and the modern large with one (stayed afloat).
Made another run on the modern one with stern tubes and sank it.
The destroyer was mysteriously stopped, but accelerated out of the way of my last fish (a real steam driven ship could've never done this!)
Then I had no torps left and with the RFB gun reloading time I couldn't finish off the crippled tanker before the destroyer showed up, so I had to leave two survivors....

Could be an issue with the channel the model was exported as stated in your previous post, but I'd say a mod issue. Seems like everytime I do a major mod install, or upgrade I have to do it on a fresh install even with JSGME. Have you checked your install order and do you run any enviroment mods??

It appears to be an issue within TMO. When you run the "stock" version of RSRDC, the skin is present.

Have been running just TMO 152. Yesterday I decided to load RSDC. I loaded all in order as specified behind TMO 152. That is:
TMO sboat engine patch
RSRDC TMO V15-V371
RSRDC V371 Patch 10
RSRDC Aux GB Patch.
But none of the RSRDC loads took via JSGME. They appeared to go in; the tracking bar would move and the mod would switch sides, but when I checked data for the new entries, they weren't there and they weren't in the recognition manual in game.
JSGME appeared to just create new folders for the RSRDC mods underneath the mods folder.
I figured maybe RSRDC needed a clean install to work with, so I removed SH4 from my machine and did a complete reinstall of SH4 and V1.5. Then tried again. The TMO mods went in fine, but RSRDC's same deal as before. Plus after the RSRDC attempt, all other mod installs with JSGME also failed in the same manner, simple stuff like skins, etc.
Anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

How are you un-compressing the RSRDC file ? Have you looked at the file structure after you uncompressed the file. I think based on the how you decompressed the files may be the cause of your problem.

Thanks; that was the problem; I was putting the master folder into the JSGME mods folder, not the one beneath.
All in OK now.
Is it correct that there is no RSRDC logo represented on the entry screen? The TMO logo remains with the SCAF one at the bottom, but no sign that RSRDC is in although clearly it is from the database and message traffic changes in game.

I am not sure this is an RSRDC problem, but I think I would have noticed it before if occurring.
Since RSRDC install, very often save game changes things on reload. Most often affected is day/night condition. Most recently saved with game time of 0530 and bright sunlight. When loaded again the same scenario changed to dark night with a quarter moon; game time stayed at 0530.
Had another one where two surface contacts disappeared as well as a change of light condition.
I'm running TMO152, RSRDC V371 and SCAF for both. Install order was as specified in the sticky. Never saw the problem with just TMO.
After I had the problem last night, I did a clean install of all. Inserted one saved game thereafter so I wouldn't loose the career. That save game was with the sub in port. Problem duplicated tonight.
Any ideas?

Sorry about posting the above in the RSRDC thread.:nope: Since it started only after RSRDC installation, I thought they might be connected. However, after searching the site this afternoon, turns out this is a known and long standing problem w/ SH4 and has nothing to do w/ RSRDC. It seems to occur most often after a CTD. Thereafter in that patrol, saves can get goofy. No cure so far.
Mea culpa.

Egon,
Couple of things that folks have suggested to aleviate the problem are:
1. Always keep your last arriving in homeport save, because if the next patrol becomes fubar, you will always have that save to go back to. The save bug only appears to affect the patrol you are on when the problem occurs. And it clears for the next patrol.:hmm:
2. Some have had success by only saving from the 2D map screen and not saving when within 25nm of land or when you have visual contact with other ships. I haven't tried this; in fact last night I saved a whole approach on a KUMA and it saved fine.
3. What I have seen is that you have to let the program run until it's happy to stop. What I mean is if something big is happening, like you're taking damage/sinking, and you just want to abort and re-load, don't do it. Let it run out and then re-load. It seems to stay stable that way.
I started the patrol again, loaded the game from arriving at port save but during the patrol the bug came again. I saved than quited the game and loaded this save and I started at night when I saved during the day :-?

I found out how this bug happened. I was in 2000 time compression and I changed to external view, my fps droped from 45 to 10. I had to restart the game and before that I saved, after restarted the game was buged allready :-?

Command: USS Sealion (SS-195) (Sargo-class)
Assignment: Dec 7, 1941, Asiatic Fleet
Present Patrol: Makasaar Straits, May 1942
Some interesting tidbits about the USS Sealion:
ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Sealion_(SS-195)
Following shakedown, Sealion, assigned to Submarine Division 17 (SubDiv 17), prepared for overseas deployment. In the spring of 1940, she sailed, with her division for the Philippine Islands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_Islands), arriving at Cavite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavite) in the fall to commence operations as a unit of the Asiatic Fleet. Into October of 1941, she ranged from Luzon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luzon) into the Sulu Archipelago (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulu_Archipelago), then, with another submarine of her division, now SubDiv 202, she prepared for a regular overhaul at the Cavite Navy Yard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavite_Navy_Yard). By 8 December (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_8) (7 December (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_7) east of the International Date Line (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Date_Line)), her yard period had begun; and, two days later, she took two direct hits in the Japanese air raid which demolished the navy yard.
The first bomb struck the after end of her conning tower and exploded outside the hull, over the control room. The second smashed through a main ballast tank and the pressure hull to explode in the after engine room, killing the four men then working there. In addition 1 crewman died while a POW.
Sealion flooded immediately and settled down by the stern with 40% of her main deck underwater and a 15 degree list to starboard. The destruction of the navy yard made repairs impossible, and she was ordered destroyed. All salvageable equipment was taken off, depth charges (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_charge) were placed inside, and, on 25 December (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_25), the explosives were set off to prevent her from being made useful to the enemy.

Just thought I'd update; I started a new career & it looked like it might be happening again, I went to a port outside the 150 mile zone & sunk a ship & it completed the objective. I did a 2nd mission & it did the same thing again until I got lucky & sunk a ship & *ta-daah* it completed the objective.....apparently you have to sink something to complete the objective lol.....the missions that first post referred to I didn't even see a ship & I criss crossed the pacific three times looking!
Thanks for jumping in to help me so fast Lurker, I had read all the (many) read me's & couldn't understand what the problem was in the beginning.:88)

Deck guns on both sides of the war (i.e., German and American) carried HE shells only (or a variation thereof). Occasionally some star clusters would be loaded, but those of course don't really do much good. :88)

I've got one statement, one question, and one help request:
Statement: Thank you very much for taking the tremendous amount of time to code the submarine war in the Pacific for us. Your mod makes SH4 the game I wanted it to be.
Silly Historical Question: Would you happen to know why the Hiyo Class CV's had green paint jobs? (I saw that they were green the museum section after I installed your mod. I've never seen a color photo of one so it was a surprise.)
Tech Assist: I'm missing some textures on aircraft installed by RSRD in the War Museum. I assume I'm also missing them in game but I haven't played enough yet to see these aircraft. They are:
Japanese A6M2N (both versions)
Netherlands Brewster Buffalo (both versions)
I'm running mods in the following order:
RFB_v1.51_062308
RSRDC_RFBv15_V395_RC5
RSRDC_V395_Patch4
RSRDC_AuxGB_Fix

This is because of graphic mods added to RFB that effect certain types of .dds files. You can fix the Japanese A6M2N by downloading the TMO_FloatPlane_fix
http://files.filefront.com/TMO+FloatPlane+fixrar/;11389656;/fileinfo.html
The Brewster Buffalo currently doesn't have a fix, but it is very doubtful that you will see it outside the Museum

Lurker,
I downloaded and activated the TMO+FloatPlane fix but the AM2N is still black. I'm trying to figure out how I could've screwed up an install that simple. Just feeding back to see if you've any ideas and to let you add this to your list of known issues if you do that sort of thing. The black a/c are really not even a minor annoyance and don't affect the experience at all for me. Thanks again for the mod and all the help!
BTW, I started a career in Manila in 41 and was pleased to see that the S-18 class submarine I was assigned was actually one of the boats assigned to Manila in 1941. I know that it might not seem like a big deal to some but as a submariner and a naval history buff, that sort of detail makes all the difference to me. Thanks again!

Hi
Firstly thanks for the great updates- I am running SH1V to 1.5 with RSRDC, patch 7.7 for same, and RFB 1.5, environmental 4.6, 4.7 and 4.8 for 4.7.
The game plays superbly, graphics incredible but when I dive my sub, the crew remain on the bridge!
Can you please advise what the problem is?
Regards:rotfl:
originally posted in the SH4 general section but was advised to repost here:
Has anyone else run into a phantom Simms DD near Guam? Twice my war patrols have taken me to the Guam/Saipan area and both times just west of Guam, near the south end I have setup on a contact and had it turn out to be a Simms DD. Being that it is 1942 I don't really see her staying alive long around there. The first time I was closing just for a look at what it may be doing in that neck of the woods, but when it got to the north end of Guam, just disappeared from both Radar and sound, went to last location and nothing around. Second time I took an up close look, and sure enough US flag flying just patrolling with 20nm of a major enemy base.
I am running SH4v1.5 w/TMO and RSRD.
Thanks for the great mod!

Just a question. I've started running a few careers just as test beds for now. And I dont get any orders beyond the typical deploy to XXX engage enemy shipping from the stock. I was under the impression that the orders would be a bit more detailed than that, so do I have a problem or is that normal for RSRD?
Here's my install order.

Ack disreguard this. I figured out what was wrong after I did a fresh install of SH4

Quick question about this and I guess many other mods. When you go to install via Jscgme? it tells me ALOT of files or textures will be overwritten, do I want to continue. I said yes but dont know if I'm messing something up. Is this expected?
I am running SH4 1.5 with TMO and your RSRD installed after it. I have the TMO, then the patch, RSRD then the patch. The order looks correct as per instructions I have found but still got all those warnings.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx

Falkirion, I'm in my 7th patrol and i haven't gotten any other orders either, so I think the answer is yes. But I don't mind, as I think being ordered to patrol and sink enemy ships is what' submarines are built for, saving downed pilots or similar things are only rare exceptions.
CobraDriver, overwrites are expected, just make sure you install your mods in the correct order.

TY Te Kaha for the info.
Now just 1 more question, I have the TMO as stated and when I start the game, thats the screen I see, so how do I know that RSRD is even loaded?
Is there some kind of patch ver. I should be seeing in a corner or sig or something?
Because I dont see any difference from before I installed RSRD to now after I have installed it.

There is going to be a new release from RFB after "a few weeks"... ..."Droooool!!!".... So I started to wonder about compatibility issues with RSRD and upcoming releases of the super mod. I guess RFB and RSRD have been developed in close collaboration, but any idea do we have to wait RSRD_for_RFB_xxxxxxx -type of patch before it is reasonable to run RSRD with the new RFB? ...RSRD is kind of must for SH4...

There are so many hundreds of little annoying bugs still prevelant in the game, no matter which mod seems to be used. I had a whole war career in RSRD withuot encountering a single convoy. My total warship claim was 1 single destroyer, but what he was doing midway to Midway in 1944 is beyond me?
No capital ships at all.
After finishing the mod, I reverted to 1.4 with small rocks mod. Now attempting an extremely tricky harbour photo insertion into Osaka. Had to lie deep and silent due to an imcoming damned task force going right over my head then a damned destroyer, at the rear, suddenly ran at me from miles away and hit me in a storm, sitting on 250 feet of bottom, running silent, where it is known storms upset asdic. When I start the game from a save, I have to remember to reset any first waypoint as the "game" has forgotten in it was and streams right on through. Torpedos fired at a target suddenly go off at a 90 degree tangent and swim off to the antarctic. Still, its frustrating and all good fun. Proplem with Osaka is a very shall bar across the inlet, the only way though is periscope depth and at spped of 2 knots max, at night, hopefull in a storm. Then, once over, a destroyer, from "over the horizon" suddenly comes in hard and fast ......................... not past this point yet.

I've conducted a number of test using two different computers, using the "stock" version of RSRDC + patches and the TMO version and I'm unable to recreate your CTD. Therefore based on the evidence at hand, your CTD is caused by one of the addition mods you have listed.

Are the selections for missions random or is there something that determines what type of mission you get? So far I have done four careers from Pearl and am on my third in SubSoWestPac. I have never had any other mission than go, patrol, and sink ones.
Since RSRDC seems to like me and sends me to spots where lone merchant ships are in abundance, I tend to sink a lot of ships. Is this success the reason I always don't see any variety in missions? There is no way I could ever go back to the stock game after being hooked on RSRDC, it is way too much fun.

I too had a full career in RSRD and never once did I encounter even a small convoy, loads of planes, some single ships, days without anything at all except planes. I took RSRD off, running a career on SH4 plus mods, and sinking ships a plenty when in convoy rich lanes. Planes reduced, thanks to reduced planes mod, strangely enough.
