Default So no more support for SH4 v1.4

Howdy,

Wanted to download latest RFB or TM and RSRD only to find out that I have to purchase the U-Boat Missions add-on :hmm:

Does this mean that the Stock SH4 v1.4 is now redundant?

And what of us that don't care for 1.5?

I C. That means SH4 V1.4 is no longer supported and it is a requirement to purchase the add-on before any latest super mods can be used.

So, what are the benefits for having the ubm addon installed (apart from the obvious)? Has it improved the stock v1.4 in any way?

TMO and RSRD offer the 1.4 versions but there will be no more work on them. They are "finished works" and will no longer be supported. You get what you get and if you want to enjoy the supported versions then you need to keep up, not expect the rest of the community to hang back. There are still lots of great mods available for 1.4 ~

I would recommend going to 1.5 though. It's worth the few dollars it costs and I was not originally sold on paying for the add-on since I had no desire to play the German Side of SH4, I have SH3 for that. But after the purchase I must say the improvents and enhancements to the U.S. side are well worth the price of admission.

Not to mention the continued work by some of the best mods around who keep pushing the limits in improving the stock game.

The problem is that people who work on things like to work on the newest versions. Since 1.5 does have some improvements over 1.4 the modders moved to that version. This is why, though there are still cool new mods coming out for SH3, they are becoming fewer and fewer. The same is happening to SH4 1.4.

Can't be helped.

the only thing you arent going to get is any newer versions or improvements in the mods as they are now. most mods are what they are and dont get regular upgrades so to speak so your not going to be missing out that much because your using the older version.

as steve said, the modders who were updating their work decided to go with the latest and newest version so if you want their latest work you will need to spend the $10 to get the ubm ad-on.

1.5 is much different file workings than 1.4 so to try to work on both versions is not easy to do so since in most cases you cant just make a few minor changes to the mod, you almost need to redo most of it. plus some changes that work on 1.5 may not even work on 1.4, but some of the small 1.5 mods will work fine with 1.4 even though they dont say weather or not they will so you just need to try them to find out.

If you can afford it, I suggest you purchase the add-on. Like you I have Sh3 to satisfy my U-boating needs, and I bought the SH4 UBM addon simply for the improvements it makes to SH4 where I play exclusively (so far) on the US side.

Then you're stuck with mods that only work with 1.5. You can't expect modders to support two versions of the game, especially when it comes to larger mods like RFB, TMO, and RSRDC.

Thanks for the responses. It's worth it then to get UBM. Now to get the download version as I live in Aus and won't let me purchase the download from D2D due to some legality.

Are there any other sites where downloads can be purchased?

Keep in mind too that the modders:

a) do this for fun, not profit
b) do this for free, not profit
c) are under no obligation to do any of the amazing efforts they put out
d) have real lives too, outside of meeting the clamor for updates and add-ons to their mods :p

I'm running the last versions of TMO and RSRD mods for 1.4

There still available. It just takes some looking.

REL_TriggerMaru_Overhaul
All_In_One Orders Bar
GreenLamp
GREEN LOCK
Sobers 3D waves
Carotio_TrukCoralHarbourCityLocations
RSRDC_TMOv14_V370
DD_SHIV_Debris_V1.2.01

Good Luck PS. Burn them to cd so you will always have them. They may be impossible to find in the future.

1.4 will never stop working but sadly you probably have seen an end to just about any "new" mods for 1.4, so what you have now is what you have to work with.

something to try is taking the small 1.5 mods and using the same steps they use to create a version for 1.4, the big mods im afraid your going to have to live with the older versions.

if you intend to stick to 1.4 then you are going to need to learn to do your own mods yourself.

Clay, nobody will force you to play the german side. 1.5 is not only the german side, there also changes in the US side.

And because of these changes the 1.5 Mods will mostly not been usable in 1.4.
Unfortunally there was a lot of changes in the mostly used menu1024x768.ini.

This means that we modders have to test and modify our mods for both version.
Why? To save you ten bucks? Sorry, but this would mean that our work will not be this 10 bucks worth.

Sorry. I cannot understand your opinion. I develop also mods for EA's Football manager. And the user has to buy every year a new football manager for 50 €.
And year for year EA's football manager is top ranked on the german computergames Highseller lists.

I mean this 10 bucks will not hurt soo much.
