Silent Hunter 4: Wolves of the Pacific v1.4 – Silent Fire v1.4.1 by Snaptrap (snaptrap@hotmail.com)

Originally, this update was not to be, but with some prodding from those who liked my previous version I decided to make one. I am also considering making an update to work with the U-Boat expansion pack, however, that will not be until I return from a long needed holiday. Until then, I will take personal requests to perform minor alterations to the mod so feel free to drop me a line.

Some people who are familiar with previous versions won’t be happy to see that I’ve removed the sub invincibility. I personally found certain aspects of the mod had taken away too much of the challenge that makes the game enjoyable. Besides, the invincibility was causing a few unfixable issues. Instead I decreased the repair time to compensate.

To apply the mod, copy the extracted Data folder over the Data folder within your Silent Hunter program folder. To remove the mod, copy the Data folder that’s within the Backup archive into your Silent Hunter program folder. This mod has not been tested with the JSGME.

List of changes made from original SH4 stock files:

1) Begin a new career with a selection of 100000, 200000, and 500000 renown points.
2) All crew members are high performing Lieutenants with all medals and bonus abilities.
3) All crew members no longer suffer from fatigue or damage.
4) All upgrades, torpedo types, and extra sub models are immediately available.
5) Instant reload times for shells and torpedoes.
6) Increased torpedo ranges (no increased shell ranges to prevent lockups under manual deck gun control).
7) Increased shell and torpedo (100kts) speeds.
8) Increased damage dealt by shells and torpedoes (see below for torpedo details).
9) Increased rotation and elevation speeds of all gun turrets.
10) Increased diving and surfacing speeds for all subs.
11) Increased surface and submerged speeds (100kts).
12) Increased travel distances for diesel and battery operations.
13) Increased acceleration and deceleration speeds.
14) Repair times reduced to 1hr.
15) Extreme rapid fire applied to all deck guns.

People have asked me to make torpedoes that have varied properties. Below is a chart of all torpedo speeds, attack power, and blast radius. The Mk10 has an unaltered power and blast radius, so use it as a measurement for all other torpedoes. Power is the deciding factor at how effective the torpedo is at sinking ships.

Type: Mk10 Type: Mk14 Type: Mk16 Type: Mk18 Type: Mk23 Type: Mk27
Speed: 100 Speed: 100 Speed: 100 Speed: 100 Speed: 100 Speed: 100
Power: 100 Power: 200 Power: 400 Power: 800 Power: 1600 Power: 1m
Radius: 5 Radius: 10 Radius: 10 Radius: 10 Radius: 10 Radius: 10
Range: Long Range: Long Range: Long Range: Long Range: Long Range: Long

Notes:

· When surfacing, submerging, making or entering turns, I recommend doing so with the speed set to anything but Ahead Full or Back Emergency to prevent the sub from dipping or rolling.

· The Mk27 literally blows ships out of the water, so when you see one fly or vanish, it’s not a glitch.

· Because of an unusual glitch with the extended torpedo selection, you can only load two types of torpedoes per mission. One type in the bow and one type in the stern. The problem is that once a torpedo is fired, the game loads the tube in the torpedo management console with the same graphic of the torpedo you just fired rather than the graphic of the torpedo which is actually loaded. It’s workable, but may be confusing to some.

· To maintain the ability to make fine adjustments at controllable speeds, I reduced all forward and reverse speed settings by 75% (Ahead Flank and Back Emergency have no reductions)

**Silent Fire v1.4.1 was designed to work as a stand-alone mod and is not guaranteed to work with other mods or old game saves**

--Silent Fire v1.4.1 is dedicated to all SH4 fanatics and to the kindest heart I know, Rhena Demers--

Special Thanks: To the Silent Hunter 4 development team for making this fantastic game, and the appreciation received from those who found enough patience to allow me the time to make this mod possible. Best wishes to everyone! – Richard Nahamko
