Default Hello, Thanks and Help!

First, let me say, Thank you! It never ceases to amaze me 'how' you guys are able to do what you do, viz., taking fair-average games and making them good-great games. I can drag/cut/paste a folder here and there, however, coding, modding, etc. boggles my Packard Bell 386 (first computer) mind. I realize much work goes into this oft-thankless endeavor and I do not want to be a bother with too many questions.

I am proud to support, albeit in a small way (times are tough) the dedication of the Subsim. Having been to many such forums I can say that there seems to be an air of professional courtesy on this site.

Second, please note that my version of SH 5 is from Steam and, having read through Sober's post here (I have read documentation and have spent three days, off and on, with this project so as not to waste your time): http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=192374 and I know there may be an issue or two with the modding. That being said, I can say that having followed the order of activation/enabling (JSGME) at the above link I am still running into a CTD here and there and a few questions.

For instance:
The IRAI from TDW that Sober lists is 0_0_41, however the link given is to 0_0_39 and it is given twice in the sequence....does this matter? Also, I am unable to plot courses in the Campaign as my boat does not appear.

So, I have questions like these and rather than go into them in detail I would first, as I believe good manners dictate, request permission for assistance and then engage in direct communication. Again, I do not want to waste anyone's time, however, I really have spent hours downloading, inputting and enabling mods in an effort to get this working. So far, before my last CTD when I clicked on 'Captains Log' I LIKE what I see. In fact, I have acquired enough of a taste for Sober's Mega Mod to be impelled to see this thing through to a complete, stable game.

Thank you much, in advance, for your patience and assistance.

Cheers,
Mike

You should ask for assistance in sober's thread, by adding some more detail on your CTD's (are they associated with any event/unit being in the vicinity/location on map/high time compression, etc.? How often do they happen? Have you modified your mod list after you have started your campaign?). Also have a look at vdr1981's "silent CTD Hunter" thread: it might provide you with some interesting clues.

Again, you should ask on sobers mega mod thread, but I suppose v 0.0.39 of IRAI is listed there by pure mistake. If you place all the mods listed at post #1 in the MODS folder, and load in JSGME the latest MEP file provided by sober, you won't have to care about which mod is actually used and in which order: JSGME will do the job for you.

This is due to "Real Navigation by TDW". If you don't want to learn it (there are are several tutorials about it in the forum, I strongly suggest you to have a look at them before giving up this neat mod), you can disable it manually, after having loaded the MEP file.

Feel free to ask any other questions, here or in the most relevant thread.
Posing general questions in the public forums, rather than via PM, has two advantages: first, more subsim members will read them, and you have better chances to receive a correct answer and, secondly, other newcomers will profit from them

Thank you gentlemen. gap: I recall from Sober's thread that the SH5.exe will not work with Steam's proprietary nonsense. Would it save me hassle and heartache just to buy a CD copy of the game and do all the patching and modding on it? I know when I played my Steam version I did not have:
Hydrophone Manual Control
Active Sonar
Stadimeter, or any tool for range and speed calcs for input into TDC
Continual following of sonar contacts
Sluggish movements (even though I have Radeon HD6800 series card, lots of RAM, etc.)
Map Plotting ability
etc....

Thanks!

Steam needs "evaporating". As "Sober" quite rightly says "get the Dvd" it is no longer expensive.

Before loading the Dvd. Make sure that you leave no trace of Steam on your system.

Use a registry cleaner like "Ccleaner" and restart your system afterwards.

Go to your start button and use search and check again for any left over SH5.

If you find anything delete it and run the registry cleaner again.

If you already have a Uplay account play it safe and set up a new one for your new Silent Hunter 5 installation. This will come up at the end of the installation.

After the install go to the following folders.

In the path Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Data\Support\GameUpdater

There is a "GU"application that will update your game to v1.2

Thanks guys. That's what I suspected. And while not a big fan of Steam I do have several games I play through it and would rather not delete it. HOWEVER, it is located on a separate 1TB drive from my OS, which is on an SSD (where my x86 files are located) so it should be fine on my SSD, correct? Thanks

Should be no problem there.

Make sure you do not install the game in your Programme x86 Folder.

Yes as said by BERB. Installation should make a Ubisoft folder where SH5 installs to. It will be the same for 32bit and 64bit OS.

Hi Pascal

You have a lot going on there

These all deal with interiors

SteelViking's Interior Mod V1.2
SteelViking's Interior Mod V1.2.2 Patch
sobers multi color mod V5

As does Silent Michaels

sobers works with SVIM ok

But adding SM is it too much?

Remove SVIM and sobers and enable SM and see if you still have the problem

I think I would put this mod last

sobers reduced file sizes SH5 V2
