Default SUBSIM SH4 Patch 1.1 Bug Thread

NOTE TO ALL: Since the patch 1.2 has been announced I decided to stop maintaining this list and start a new bug thread after that patch has been released Drebbel

A: Reported Bugs

A1) Crewmen appear flat, 2D; chanting numbers endlessly; you are using a No CD crack or illegal version of the game. Do not post. I strongly recommend you read the following thread.

A2) Repetative/looping speech and sound effects. Like "rudder rudder" when setting rudder amidships and torpedo explosions.

A3) Time/clock problems. Clocks contradicting each other and not matching the time of day, but maybe this is not local time at all. Also see #C51

A4) Crash to when using the "A key".
Work around: Click on the depth guage to set to current depth.

A5) Crash when using stadimeter. In case certain graphics options (stabilized view?)are enabled.

A6) Freezing/slow downs after hitting "M" when a lot of messages are present.

A7) In certain occasions the crew keeps complaining of lack of oxygen as soon one surfaces

A8) Mysteriously looking rectangle polygon sticking out of water.

A9) On the map sometimes naval contacts are positioned on land

B1) The "empty box" in the ship's ID book is always checked.

B2) Sonar only works below periscope depth.

B4) Can only sent contact report on some targets

C1) Periscope up/down sound not present in the control room.

C2) Crew member hands, eyes look a little bit strange.

C3) Lack of audio voice overs/comfirmations from the crew.

C4) Clouds change too fast

C17) Asked the sonar man to Follow the Nearest Contact (a Merchant) - he did....Surfaced, and he was still following the contact and calling out the bearings.

C18) Torpedo Tube status panel in conning tower blinks like a Christmas Tree

C19) Recognition manual too bright when rigged for red, blinding.

C20) Rafts/life boats bumping sub sounds like a car crash!

Good move, Gizz.

All, please take a second and read the Subsim memo here. We want to take all that energy most forums expend in whining and convert it into productive and focused criticism.

Also, if we could use this thread for real bugs, not things we wish the game had but doesn't, that would be great.

For the devs: I've noticed that the sound settings and video resolution settings always reset themselves - i.e., every time I start back up I have to go in and turn off the music and set the video back up to the higher resolution I prefer.

Salvo's like SH3 are gone it seems.
You just fire 1 torp after another.
And you can't seem to open multiple tubes.
So you try and do a quick salvo by firing individual tubes.
Open Tube fire.Open Tube Fire'Open Tub.......etc
Unless i'm doing something wrong??

I could'nt get the sonar to work.
I can't listen to or control the hydrophones.
Every button apart from the active ping does nothing.
The manual is poor on the sonar.
Maybe 50 words .
Also i'll be in a friendly harbour in the tutorials and dive to periscope death and ask my sonarman to report contacts and he can't hear anything though outside i see lots of traffic.
In fact he can't hear anything period?
Unless i'm doing something wrong.

I can't get the radar to even turn on apart fron the anti aircraft and deck gun tutorials.
Again the manual is poor on this.

I can't get the periscopes to stop going up or down using the command bar at the bottom of the screen. It has to go all the way up or down with no brakes which means when it;s going up it can be sticking several feet out of the water and you don't want that.

Using the page up/down keys is no problem though.

If i'm doing anything wrong apologies.

this one happens to me too in the submarine school mission, but the stadiemeter has worked fine for me in career mode (s-class)...
perhaps this is a sub-specific bug?

Thats possible - i got it 100% of the time in torpedo attack school mission.

I tried a quick mission (same sub type) and it happened.

I'll play with a different sub or career to see if its still apparent.

Edit:- Just tried "S" type and quick mission, still does it. The dial spins altering range as the image is moved but the second left click crashes the game out entirely.

Edit 2:- Does it to me as porpoise class in career too. Looks like i have the bug everywhere.

That bug combined with the speed estimate not working im finding very irritating at the moment.

I don't know if this is a bug, but where is that hull integrity indicator?? I had 3 big holes in the sub (viewed from the external view) but at the damage control it showed everything ok...

I have had a funny problem. I upgraded my deck gun on my gar class submarine on my second mission, and now it seems that there are is no station there. My men can not man it, so whenever I want to use it I must use it myself, so it works fine, but the crew just ignores it, theres no open slots. Pretty weird.

Wow this one is REALLY annoying

You CANNOT set the "realism" settings for a campaign to "custom"

You can only use the preset "easy, medium, hard & realistic".

These preset options suck and turn things on / off in a manor that few users on this forum would find appropriate for their playing.
For instance you can't have external cam but auto targetting.

VERY bad hiccup there....

Can anyone tell me how you check the distance you can travel at your set speed??? That was my only way in SHIII of making sure my boat didn't come to a dead stop on the way back to port I hate the fact they disabled all of your officers and now it seems more like an arcade game with those dumb tabs. No interaction with they crew which I personally think is a big step back from SHIII.

Just got game.

1) Notice that the torpedo tube door bug is here again. When you open a torped door and select a new tube (using the keyboard or clicking on the torpedo panel) the old door closes. Makes it very annoying to set up for a fast spread shot.

Also the game gives no message for closing torpedo doors, but for opening.

2) Enemies in port at start:

Beginning patrol in Soerajba (spelling?) 1942 january and the harbour has a japanese gunboat and a merchant moored. Battle breaks out. Thats just ridiculous.

3) In same harbor I can get the game to crash if I activate the stadimeter while looking on the gunboat from up close. If I sail away a bit the game wont crash when using stadimeter. Odd.

4) Im getting radar contacts ALL THE TIME. But the funny part is, I dont think I have any radar on the porpoise?

5) Fuel consumption and battery drain seems too high. Not sure if this ties into crew experience or the porpoise being a real underperformer, but it just strikes me as noticeable less than in SH3. It is definitely a problem because Im told to patrol off Honshu!!!

6) Shift-F2 puts you into the graphics in an odd position.

7) Sonar handles are impossible to use and click on at sonar station. I can send a ping however.

8) Game crashes frequently using alt-tab.

9) Sounds loop indefinitely if Realistic sounds are turned on.

10) The submarine itself blocks your view when using the AA gun station and turning your view upwards. This is on the porpoise and very annoying.

11) Gun ranges are out of whack. When shooting in that harbour Soerajba I had to put range at 5500 to hit a ship that was merely 300 meters away. Otherwise the shots would land in the water.

12) Identification manual resets itself when you close it using N. VERY annoying. The manual also flips back to normal silhouette view when you turn a page. Also very annoying when you try to check the ship against the other profiles when turning pages. Click click click click.

13) View range seems to be at 8000m

14) Event cam slows my system down loads. When firing a torpedo and the mini cam opens the view, the frame rate drops nastily. Bug or not, its reason enough to turn off event cam.

Also the torpedo cam view tracks in a very odd way, going above the surface lots of times. It is just not pretty to look at.
