Default SH3 V.1 Wont Patch

After finding out my last "purchased" copy of SH3 was a pirate I have purchased another one from a shop and not ebay where I got shafted with a pirate version.

I have completely unistalled the pirate version and reinstalled the proper SH3 V1

However, when I try to run the new 1.4 patch which i downloaded from UBISOFT I get the following error:-

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu\en_menu.tx t:unknown version

I assumed I had the european SHIII game so I downloaded the 1.4b emea version patch and got the error so i tried the US patch and got the same problem.

can anyone shed some light on this problem please?

Perhaps you have downloaded the "EMEA Download" patch instead of the "EMEA DVD" patch.

Please delete the folder in MY Documents called SHIII. Do a search file and folder off the start button. Type in look for file /fold with SHIII. If any found, delete these as well off the hard drive. If they mean clean install...the mean CLEAN. You must remove anything left from the pirated version and even the good version if you reinstall the game for some reason. If you have the DVD, you need the DVD patch. If you are in the USA I recommend the USA PATCH for the USA DVD. Or if in UK, get the UK DVD patch.

He's subsim's "Forrest Gump". A guy who we blame for all mishaps. He's the son of Dowly, who invented him in a humorous SHIII pic.

Have you completely removed all traces? Including deleting the entire Ubisoft directory in program folders before reinstalling?

After the reinstall, if you still get that error message, just delete that file – and while you’re at it, you may as well locate (in the same Directory) the files, de_menu.txt, en_help.txt and en_menu.txt – and delete them all (all four of them).

Then run the 1.4b Patch installer again.
It will replace those files.

(Thanks go to Chrystine from the Ubi forums, which is where I found this)

I think you might of wrongly accused the seller of selling you a pirate copy as from what i read of the info of your other thread it aint a pirate version. I've brought the odd pirate without knowing on trading sites till i get it i then recognise them straight away by just looking at them - false dvd covers and comic style label title designs on the game dvd, manual is a home made copy and pasted, the key/nocd fix can always be found on the dvd under the folder called crack etc., they stick out like a sore thumb. Or the real lazy ones will just send you a blank looking dvd with the blardy game installed in a lookalike dvd case !
Yet if yours was any of the above then yes, otherwise if not, then you just had issues installing the game. SH3 can be a pain in the butt to install and patch my version is a genuine copy but everytime i reintsall it, it gives me issues thats even when ive deleted the folders/ cleaned out the registry etc., even one time after a clean reformat i still had issues installing SH3 on a clean drive. I put it down to my hdd ( an old 80gig) my dvd drive & possibly starforce all combined.

I delete all of those menu folders that say it is a wrong version and it will reinstall the game without a problem. I have had to do this on every reinstall of SH3
