Default Raidin the Port: Port Said

A while back I started to post rundowns on ports I had raided. For this issiue of Raidn the Port(as I now call it) I decided to raid Port Said. This is my first raid since GW.

Port Said

Port Said is the second farthest port in GW(farthest in stock). It looks like a death trap with the front entrance only 1.4km wide. But if you come stright in you will miss the minefields closer inshore but you will runinto the DD's patroling outside.

The route in

You count the lines

Running away fron point of dection. I managed to lop one off.

IN!

The port consisied of a Large Merchant, Troop Transport, Tug, Armed Tralwer, V&W LST and a Dido LC. It was these last too in the corner I constrated on. The habor had a depth of around 15-16m

The ships.

Dido hit.

Dido sitting on the bottom(LST sunk in the backround)

While geting into postion to sunk the LST and Dido the Tug nearly ran my scope over without ever noticing it.

If he only knew

After I had sank the ships I noticed you could get in Via the Suez Canal. Unfourtunly my PC CTD'd before I got out or saved.

If you have a port youd like to see in "Raidn the Port please let me know. AND DONT SAY N.Y, SCAPA OR LOCH EWE!

Good Luck and Good Hunting,Wilhelm

Default Very nice...

Well you have balls, to enter that snake-pit like that specialy with 8 DD on ya neck.
and sunk a Dido... very nice....

I had bad experiance with entering Harbors. i set my torps to low(like 5 degrees) and after i fireing, the torp will go over the ground, and then torp stop...
maybe i set the torp next time at 0....

How about Gibraltar? Or maybe...oh, I dunno...Capetown? Something in the Black Sea? Ah...a neutral port or three!

Btw, I'm curious about the order in which you attacked your targets...not meaning to criticize, but if it was me, I would've gone in this order:

1) V & W
2) Troop Transport
3) Large Merchant
4) Dido LC
5) LST
6) Tug
7) Armed Trawler

*shrugs* Unless I misinterpreted your navigational charts, which I might have, this makes more sense...but of course, you were there, I wasn't, so I think you'd be the wiser Kaleun on that one.

I've raided three ports with GW so far in my current campaign.

SouthEnd in 1939, near london (a couple targets, wasn't all that great.. but it was 1939).

Freetown in late '41 (found a passenger liner moored there)

and Norfolk, Virginia in early '42 (lots of BIG cargos & tankers)

I am not impressed unless you do it without godseye view and without map contacts activated and also without those hydrophone lines.

You raided Norfolk? I hear that's a bloody nightmare...got any pics on that one? (Or the other ones for that matter?)

A raid on Murmansk maybe?

Key West?

Miami? I'd like to see those....

Oh,and what about Reykjavik? Is Icelands capitol in the game? If it is, than it should be concidered hostile.....

Sadly, Scapa Flow is absolutely unrealistic in GW. It took me some time to wait for the exact date and time Prien went in, but there were far too many destroyers actively searching and the wrong ships in the wrong places etc. You´ll probably know all about it already.

Cheers, AS
