Theis galary of 3D max models contains Italian Cruiser Pola and many other ships and this way could be useful for 3d modellers for SHIII.

Would be a very nice addition if we get the right to use them in SH3....

Those are very nice models, but I think that the poly count would be too high for SHIII. Also, they would probably cost money to use.
There are actually many other 3d models of ships all over the internet, but very few are free and most probably don't have a low enough poly count to work well in the game. |

Take a look, there's information about polycounts.

Problem with those modells is that they aren t free afaik. but maybe it is possible to contact the author and to get his permission.....
Polycount is not such an issue as many parts that have a very high polycount must be cut off because SH3 will use its own parts. Weapons Platforms Searchlights the planes etc.

There's a few free models on TurboSquid, including a low-poly Titanic and a WWII-era LCM. Maybe one or two of these could be imported, but permission would have to be asked first. Also, there are a lot whoch cost money, and have very high poly counts, but are still good to look at.

Also, the link from the patrol boat picture - the models listed here are quite high-poly (like the patrol boat itself) but are also quite expensive.

Most of the modelers on TurboSquid say that the models are free for personal (i.e. non-commercial) use. Although modelers here would be adding them to commerical software (i.e. SHIII) it would be for non-commerical use. I'm sure they would give permission, but it is definitely necessary to ask first.
Although most, if not all, of these models probably have too many polys to be suitable for SHIII anyway. |

Your talking about models that are in the 10 to 20 MILLION Poly counts here, if not higher, I know, I have done some. SH3 has a recommended Maximum Poly count per individual ship of around the 35000 mark (can go higher but with model's in games - less is more as the saying goes). To cut the poly count is not always easy nor at times does the end product even look that great. Also all of those models would need to be ReUV maped since the detail is in the model not the skin (hence the high poly count). Now I ask you is it worth buy/getting permission for such a model thats only going to be hacked up to get it in game with a lot of effort and time that may not even work, of course not. And to be honest I dont think 1's the guys find out what you have done to their models, that they would be very pleased. This issue has always raised its self with every game I have ever done 3D models for. This spans some 10 odd years now (BattleZone - released 1995) and I have maintained a libary of my own models for every game that I have ever done models for plus those high end model's I do for fun. Its now around 5-6 gigs of models an skins and even with all of this I still dont have enough for evey occasion. Every time this issue pops up I really do understand why, but must alway say the same thing. Its not practical. It does not mean however that those like myself who love to do 3D model's wont get there in the end, just give us the time and new models do come along.
