Default Operation SN

I'm on my eighth patrol in June 1940 and I was assigned to patrol grid AN55. Whilst doing this I was attacked by an aircraft in the westerly area of the grid and I quickly dived my boat. I thought I'd use the external camera to see my boat diving and to my horror I saw just on my starboard side a mine. Anyway this got me interested in where the Allies put mines around Great Britain during WWII. I found some info on Operation SN which basically involved the Royal Naval deploying mines in an attempt to prevent the enemy from breaking out into the Atlantic Ocean through the Orkney - Faeroes - Iceland gap and through the Denmark Straight from the north into areas where trans-Atlantic shipping could be attacked. I know that the English Channel is a no-go area, but I would be interested to learn if any forum members playing SHIII have been sunk in the North Sea or in any of the areas mentioned above by mines?

Sure that is from 1939 and not just about 1939?

Thanks for the pic bigboywooly, it would have been the minefield just off the East coast of England that I nearly fell foul of. Presumably though, the Allies would have added to these minefields as the war progressed (up until 1943 anyway when I believe mine laying was halted). I think the original plan was to place mines across from Scotland to Norway but this plan was scuppered when the German's invaded Norway in 1940.

The area E and SE of Scapa is heavily mined as well I presume as I got damaged a few times already for no apparent reason (I disabled the external camera so I can't take a look).

Yep that fits in with Operation SN's objectives.
