Default Help with firing torpedoes submerged and in bad weather

I was tired of beeing unable to attack ships in the fog & when i was submerged (and couldnt use the scope. So i was depending on the hydrophone and the map (with the ruler for distance measurements + the 3.15 min. rule for target speed.) So i wrote a little tool to help me with this. The only clue is that i dont know if its correct, since i wont be seeing my own computer again before wednesday (This is my Sisters computer, and she doesnt even have SHIII installed!! She must be thrown out of the family..!) Could anybody look into this, and see if i have done something wrong here? Please correct me if i have, and you are all free to modify and use these files as you like. PS: you need excel to open the .xls file, the .bmp is a paint picture

Attack_calculator.xls:
http://files.filefront.com//;6030778;;/
intercept_plan.bmp:
http://files.filefront.com//;6030779;;/

Please give feedback, good or bad; i appreciate it!

And its 100 % virus free, mates!

I still don't see how anyone can expect to effectively blind target and hit anything. Hydrophones and sonar will certainly give you range and bearing, but if you don't know AoB you're spitting in the wind I would think, unless you're using aucoustical homing torpedoes.

Take two readings 3 minutes and 15 seconds apart and you can get everything you need (speed and direction of target)

It would be more useful if the answer derived in your excell sheet was related to "bearing to target"... you know: "fire when target reaches bearing blah blah" instead of the "Fire when target is this far from the rendesvouz point" deal that you currently have. The reason? you can have your sonarman continously shout bearing to target data, but not distance

Anyway, you don't need to do this by hand or in anyway outside of SHIII... you have a targeting computer in your U-boat, use it

Thanx, bearing to target sounds like a possibility, yes! I was trying to make something that didnt need the TDC at all, only the map and a hydrophone. But the TDC is great, though!

No problems, mate! There are the filefront links in my first post here, and the EXCEL program is found in the microsoft office package. If someone knows any freeware programs that could read .xls files, please inform!!

IIRC - Open Office (freeware) will allow you to view, edit etc .XLS formats.
