Default Depth charges against surface targets?

I'm still reading Angrep i skjærgården ("attack in the skjærgård*"), still for my NOROP project, and the section I'm reading is still about MTBs 711 and 723's surface fight with U-637 (pages 244-246). One more thing that caught my attention and that I thought was worthy of bringing up here was this interesting manoeuvre undertaken by one of the MTBs near the end of the battle.

As far as I understand it, the MTB passed very close to the bow of the crippled u-boat and dropped four depth charges which went off below the surfaced u-boat as she ran over them. This apparently crippled the u-boat, as she "drifted towards land, obviously completely out of control". The poor ole boat ended up grounded, listing heavily and with only her bow and parts of her tower over the surface.

Just a little something for Silent Hunter 4.

*As far as I know, there is no English word for "skjærgård", which refers to the "forest" of small islands and skerries along the Norwegian coast.
