The other night I was thinking to myself what is the oldest component that I still use with or in my PC? This question includes any peripherals attached be it a keyboard, monitor, mouse or anything else for that matter. So what is the oldest component you use or that is incorporated within your PC?
I'm not sure myself. I will have a look at my old receipts and components in my case to see what is the oldest component still in use. I suspect it might be the memory or soundcard. :hmm: What about others here? Please share. |

My trusty 15" monitor, Sony Multiscan 110ES. It's some 7-8 years old but still works like a charm. Had it already in mothballs but had to dig it up when my 19" Crapsung blew up.
I'll be getting myself a whole new computer some time soon and I'll be getting a new screen in the process.. a Sony 23" flatscreen beast. Yay ![]() |

My old Compaq 2110 Win95 I've had for over 10 years and still running and no repairs or upgrades, not bad for a PC that should be in a museum.
![]() And the original monitor as well.

My PC is pretty much brand new (1 year old now), but I still use my 15-year-old Atari 520ST sometimes.

My 19" monitor is at least 5 years old. (I think) I got it with the kick-back for using MSN as my internet provider for 3 years.

My 19" Sony Triniton CRT is from february 1999. Thats over 7 years of chugging along. It had to get some... spark thingy... fixed around late 2000 but that was under warranty. I think my US Robotics Courier modem is on 2nd place. Lasted me from 1994 to 1999 untill I got DSL internet. That was 5 years of trusty work. In that period it grew from 21000 bps to 32000 bps to finally "x2" 56000 bps...

![]() However, MY old Audigy (1) was installed september 2001. Thats more than 5 years! It works splendid yet with EAX and all things fancy. It seems that all Creative changed from Audigy 1 through Audigy 4 was the software and the price. The drivers are working just fine. First with the X-Fi have they actually bothered to develop new stuff. Oh I still have my Live! somewhere I think... Thats from 1998.

I have a 1.2MB 5.25" Panasonic floppy drive in my P4 - I got it out of an old 8088 or 8086 (not sure) - it is still working and is about 20 years old. It replaced a dead Samsung 5.25 floppy that was from a 15 year old 486 DX. Adds a vintage and nostalgic touch to my 3.0 Ghz P4...
![]() Also, my 3.5" floppy is about 10-11 years old. I am also still using a Pentium MMX (233 Mhz) that is 11 years old, although it received a new 52x CD-ROM about three or four years ago and a RAM upgrade (from 32 MBs to 256). It is useful for older software, although I usually run that kind of software with DOSBOX now. I have a lot of older equipment that I never use anymore (I never throw anuthing out). I used a 14" monitor for six years (still working now, but not needed) and an old Canon BJC 4100 Inkjet printer for printing text documents for over 10 years. Was my old SB PCI 512 soundcard. Got it when they were new tech, and had it through all kinds of driver updates, but it wasn't good for the 7.1 surround sound.

I've got a pair of JBL Pro speakers and a subwoofer that came with my first store bought computer back in the mid 1990s. I'm currently on my 3rd computer since that one, but still using the same speakers.
