Default end it all prog?

What kind of "end it all" type prog are you using for win XP? I prefer the simplest fool proof one (where said fool can't turn off the wrong stuff).

"End it all" is a (freeware?) prog that turns off unnecessary progs running in the background of your computer. Shutting these off can increase system resources available for eg a game. (Ie it increases 'frame rates' etc.)

'End it all' is no good for XP I heard. So I want to know the latest _good prog_ that fills that role now. (fool proof means it won't turn off important stuff by user accident)

You've never heard of what I'm getting at? (How long have you been simming?)

The prog that 'everyone' uses now (which replaces the obsolete 'end it all' prog). o_0

I, like a popular little girlie, want to use the one everyone else use so as not to be the guinea pig; I don't want to get stuck in the "betamax" of end it all programs.

For example is anyone using "TaskPower 2"?

...Or rather how are 'yall increasing system resources for game play?

I'm simming for about 20 years now and never had the need for such a program.

I haven't used it on my current machine, but FSAutoStart is pretty good. Originally developed for Flight Simulator, but can be used with practically any game.

My solution isn't so sofisticated, but have you tried using the Task Manager. Turn off anything you don't need, even explorer (you can easily turn it back on afterwards, as long as you don't forget to keep you TM open!)!

That is incorrect.

I have been using it for a long time even on XP and it works like a charm.I will then finish off shutting down useless programs that EndItAll won't touch with FSAutostart.

I've got an overabundance of system resources, (gigabyte speed, system ram, etc.) and therefore have never had the need to play musical chairs with the programs on my system. (And I've been simming since 1974!!)

"End It All" and "End It All 2" are both freeware.

"End It All 2" works fine on W XP SP2. It protect by default any important procces needed for XP. Any way.... you can manually protect any aditional process neded for your sound or video card in example, and after all... you rebbot the PC and all back to normal condition.

If i am not wrong, "TaskPower 2" is from same developers than "End It All" and "End It All 2", but "TaskPower 2" is not freeware.

I use "End It All 2" with W XP Sp2 with no problems.

In adition to it, i use Security Task Manager to understand and close any uneeded W XP process. Not Freeware.

Another program, but not freeware, is GameOptimizer Pro, it adjust XP to give memory and CPU priority to games, defrag automatically memory and more.

Plus you can try some other freeware programs like

Safe XP and Game XP (freeware)

http://www.theorica.net/

And FreeRAM XP Pro (freeware)

All: Thanks.

JScones. FSAutostart --I'll check that out now.

CWorth. End it All 2 is XP compatible; Oh. I don't know where I heard it wasn't. Probably the internet =). I have that zip'd prog saved with a notepad next to it saying "Win98 Only!"

Red Wine. Security Manager and especially Game Optimizer Pro warrant some investigation. Though with my easy outs above (and a list of other things to do)... Nice post though, Redwine (good list, incl further end it all info); Catches me up.

_Thanks for your time all._

I remember some about that, may be to sold "TaskPower 2", but i was using End It All 2 on XP with no problem from lot of time ago. May be End It All 2 is considered as a W98 program because it was eleased before W XP was out, and no more support on it make a non actualized information.

TaskPower 2 is similar, but it as proccess manager included in adition to closing backgrond programs.
