Default 'the doomsday code' C4 last night

Anybody see this?
Watched it last night (probably a repeat) interesting program. Slightly disturbing some of the beliefs... 'true believers' always freak me out by coming accross as seemingly reasonable, decent people until they start talking about jesus etc then they get this far away look in their eyes any you just know they're seeing you burn in lakes of fire whilst they ascend to whatever paradise they expect to attain come the 'end' and it's only a short step to them actually starting the fire and pushing you in in order to hasten god's great plan for you and me

More info about the program here:

Wow! Just read your first link and some of its hyperlinks!

What trash!

But you go right on worshipping the journalist that slosh this slop out for you to ingest day after day. After all, you are what you eat!

Chanel 4's home page aclaim quote and its source sums it up nicely for me:

"Arguably one of the best examples of a public service program so far this century.'
- Jamie School Dinners, The Guradian

So much for journalism.

Nope. You have quite a bit of commentary in your post that indicates that you've taken in such sensationalism as, um, er, gospel.

Yeah, I saw the show as well, wasn't that brilliant, but it did highlight the fact that there are fundelmentalist extremists on both sides...that is a fact that you cannot deny, it's just that Christian fundelmentalists rarely (if ever) blow people up with the odd suicide bomb. Amazing what you can do in the name of 'God' though, ain't it?

Exactly. i watched it and found it very interesting. Tony Robinson is actually pretty good at this stuff.

He wasn't being sensationalist, just a program about those who believe the end of the world is nigh and what they are doing to prepare for it and yea some of them seem pretty nuts too me.

Just like that link posted about the Jesus Camp, it is just showing that Isalm isn't the only lot to have extremist nutters, just as Oberon pointed out they don't go suicide bombing...........yet, though I am pretty sure give it some time and they will.

You can't just go by what the web site says, watching it helps.

What's Jamie Oliver got to do with it anyway Avon? His programme is infact very good.

Correction, I was not infering that my oppinion of believers was in any way influenced or provoked by this program or any of the reviews linked you so obviously think are **** (and by extension that I am full of **** too with your smug 'you are what you eat' comments). I have always found those with evangelist type faith to be so. I would have thought that was clear from previous topics here, given the length of time some forum members have been resident. The only difference is that in this context I am not alluding to islamic belief, which I'm sure you would have considered quite differently.

As ever, the chip on your shoulder precedes you.

But don't dissapiont me, if all you can be bothered to occupy your time with is making veiled slights and snide remarks to belittle other forum users who's ideas or comments don't quite fit your view of the world then go right ahead... no wait, you have already:

I post here at subsim for a bit of fun and a chat about a variety of things, not to be insulted.
Perhaps I got out of bed on the wrong side this morning, but whatever the case I have neither the patience nor tollerance for such goading and sniping today.
In the meantime Avon, you will have the honour of being the first person in 5 years of internet use to be added to my ignore list. So any masterfull retorts with which you might consider to respond will be for your ears alone.

OK, I'm too grumpy today. My apologies.

At least my tone was very appropriate for SubSim - way overboard.

Where Are Those Blood-thirsty Christian Fascists?
Andy McCarthy

Matt Drudge reports that, to pump up its sweeps-week ratings, NBC will air a Madonna concert in which the, er, maturing pop-diva will spoof ... the Crucifixion. [Hat tip: Steve Malzberg, sitting in today for Bill Bennett at Morning in America.]

Apparently, the show features, "Madonna, wearing a gittered [sic] crown of thorns, descend[ing] on a suspended mirrored, disco ball-type cross[,] singing her hit 'Live To Tell.'"

An NBC exec explained: "We viewed it and didn't see it as being inappropriate." Besides, the artist herself "considered the crucifixion a highlight of her show."

No word yet on any riotings, torchings, shootings, bombings, beheadings or other executions. But you know, with these rascals, it's just a matter of time.

Also, no word yet on whether NBC has considered airing "Submission," a film about the mistreatment of Islamic women. It hasn't been shown yet. You see, it's Dutch director, Theo van Gogh, was brutally murdered in 2004 by a not-so-moderate you-know-what named Mohammed Bouyeri, who pinned the corpse with a note calling for "jihad." (I hasten to add, of course, that, according to Muslim activists now providing sensitivity training to our federal agents, jihad is the peaceful "internal struggle against sin," not, God forbid, "holy war.")

Eh?

If your trying to show how Christians don't bomb but Mulsims do I said "not yet" as in Fundamental Christians haven't gone about blowing people up who insult or disagree with them, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does happen at some point in the future.

Well according to a Jehovah Witness that knock on my door once and handed me a Watch tower magazine - i said whats this?, oh you should read it then she started going on to me about how JW's are the true faith and all other faiths are false leading themselves to the path of destruction. Now im no JW but according to her unless we all Become Jehovah Witneses we wont go to Gods Kingdom instead enternal death (Hell is not fire and brimstone it is death - JW).
Jehovah Witnesess
The Trinity is false
Do not worship birthdays, easter or christmas it is not Gods doing instead they are pagan worshipping
Jesus is the Son of God.
All other faiths are false
The catholic church is the great satan
JW will not take arms and fight
JW do not assciated with other churches
The Jews of today are not Gods ppl JW's are
They will not accept blood - blood transfusions, instead they would prefer to die if in that situation.
The 144000 spoken about in the Bible will be JW (of course!)
JW religeon started out in mid 1800's in the USA and has spread all over the world
Apart from the mormons the JW are the only faith that go door to door and preach the gospel.

Has anyone had these ppl knock on your door. They sound like a cult to me.

I get them but the are quite resonable when I tell them I am not interested. Speaking to an ex-colleague she said that if some one isn't interested they make a note so that other couples know not to bother that household.

As a group I find them not scary but just mislead. The individuals I've know are fine, but there are more than 144,000 JWs so what who gets to go to heaven? Do they draw straws, have a lottery. Is it a Big Brother style vote for your most worthy?

I've had a few dabbles with the JW, the one's I've met seem to be alright, good people, I don't agree with all they agree with, but that happens with most things with me. I believe what I believe in...and if someone wants to come and tell me that I shouldn't believe in it....well, that's nice, but it's not gonna change the way I think.

I watched 'the doomsday code' and found it interesting to a degree there were things I found wrong or way over the top, my recommendation is you should all do your own research on the subject.

I don't care who straps bombs to themselves in the name of there religion it's a vile act done in the name of evil.

PS: And that's my final word.
