Video filters (can anyone enlighten me on this?)

Something I really missed in Silent Hunter III, is the ability to make the screen tones sepia or grey-tone in-game, or to apply noise the way you see noise in old World War II movies.

Not only because it looks good, but also because it can actually make the game look more real, if done right. Open the Silent Hunter III image thread on these forums, and look at the photoshopped Bismarck images on the first page. See how real they look?

How possible would it be to implement such real-time filters to the game? Code Name Panzers Phase II has them for its cutscenes, which does add somewhat to the atmosphere.

Has anyone here got the programming knowledge to address this, and if it's possible, would you want it included? It surely can't take so long to implement.

Pretty sure the real sailors saw things in very very vivid colors during the war, not scratchy aged film like.

It works for screenshots and videos because that's what us looking at history sees, but certainly not real time for a simulator.

Wouldn't want that in real time either. It would be a nice touch for things like the torpedo cam or the explosion cam tho...

You speak as if you were there.

(:p) Seriously, though: I think it would be nice as it'd give you the feeling of watching a movie.

Also, on the thing you said about movie and screenshots: What about when you were making movies and screenshots in-game (with FRAPS, for example)?

These effects are in all(?) video editing programs.
