Default Had to get a new Hard Drive

Okay. I have a particularly odd situation. My modded SH3 is on my C: drive (parallel). However, there was problems with Windows, so I purchased a 200Gig Serial Hard drive. Now, because Windows sometimes *******s up, it is necessary to reformat and reinstall Windows XP SP2 and then all your programs and your data is lost. So, I left my C: drive where it was and put the new hard drive below it. Then, I partitioned 20 Gig to install Windows XP (Drive D: ) in and the 2nd partition (Drive E: ) is simply formated (no windows stuff) which is where I will install all my programs (which I have already done) except for SH3. Now, I have my SH3 on drive C: with all my mods installed. Now this SH3 was created using a DVD which is no longer usable because of too many scratches.

Okay, here is my question. I purchased a new SH3 DVD (different installation number). So, I have to install SH3 on Drive E: under program files/ubisoft. I am not too worried where it creates my SH3 career folder because I have my saved career backed up on the new Drive.

Once I install SH3 using the new DVD, is that SH3 the same as the other SH3 which was installed using the worn out DVD?

So, what I want to do, once the Silent Hunter III directory is created, is to move my already modded SH3 files (which are on drive C: ) into it (on drive E: ) and then continue on with my career once I put them into the folder that is created.

Does anyone see any problem with this.

Anxiously waiting to install SH3 and get going again.

BTW, Drive C: is still active, but once I have SH3 moved to the new drive, I will reformat the Drive C.

No Bob, SH3 will be exactly the same. the DVD nor the game have any difference then the old scratched DVD.

step1: Make an fresh SH3 installation on ur new Hard Drive (patch it up to 1.4b)
step2: Put your mods back in place.
step3: put your saved career files back in place
step4: Enjoy!

The reason I need to MOVE sh3 from drive c is because there are too many mods and some I changed and I cannot remember what they were because they were manually installed. So I need the sh3 game as it is now when I was playing it.

Bummer! I always hate having hardware issues too. I suggest getting an external HD or something as well just to back everything up on. Then lock it up and use it for a rainy day like this in the future if you need another HD down the road. Then all you will have to do is transfer everything over to the new HD off the external drive or whatever you used for backing up. I had this same issue a few weeks ago when I formatted my old HD and lost all my important emails when I bought my new PC. I hope you get it all straightend out Rob!

Default So, what do I do?

Just so I understand what I should do. Install the NEW Sh3 DVD, run it as it is just to get a career for, let's say The Player. Look for where it saved the career file. Copy my career in that spot.

Now, the SH3 on the other drive which has all my mods installed, I should move it to where Silent Hunter is installed.

Then everything should be okay. Right?

Hi, I'm with SubSerpent on the external Hard Drive thing; I launch one of my SHIII's from it [WAC 1.8] with no trouble at all, I'm sure one would come in handy here somehow and they are coming down in price.

Thanks Hunter. I'll probably give it a try today. I'll make a fresh install using the new DVD, and then I will use the 'Player' option to make some sort of mission or I quess you might call it an 'outing' and then save it so I can find where it saves the careers and makes an entry into the registry. I will not add 1.4 to it because my previous installed game has all that in it.

I will then move my game from Drive C: into it and make another test run.

If everything seems to work okay, then I will copy my career back into the SH3 in My Documents.

Hope it works, 'cause if it doesn't I'm going to be really pissed off, because as previously mentioned, my game is modded so I forget how I did it because I did some manual removals of parts of a mod and I forget what I did and how I did it.

On the lighter side, I am ready, also, to start assembling the 100 or so vids from patrol 3, so that you and I can determine the length of sequences and try to match musical scores to it so it doesn't take days of editing musical scores to fit the length of the sequence.

In this matter, is it possible for me to send you the avi for each sequence by email to you?

Damn, I'm going to have to do them all over again because the audio portion to adjust the sound level of each frame is not there.

Well, I tried moving the game from my C drive to the new hard drive. I then tried to run it and I found errors in the game. I must be the fact that the other DVD was too scratched and that is why there were errors in the game

So, that means I'll have to start over again. I have patch 1.4b installed. Now I forget what to do next.

I forget the steps I have to go through until I get to the point where I start installing the mods.

Will someone tell me the steps, please.

Bob,

You mean the steps of installing SH3 with mods?

If so

*pre install*: collect all the mods you have as an Installation file or not yet pasted on the SH3 game. Make sure that the mods are 1.4b Compatible

*install* make an fresh SH3 installation with the NEW DVD, patch it up to 1.4b and install the mods on their places.

If that isn’t going to work you might give this on a shot.
Make an fresh installation of SH3 on your new hard drive with the new DVD, then copy the old SH3 on your old Hard drive and past it to the New hard drive on the fresh installation of SH3.

If that still gives problems. Well I’m afraid you have to dump some mods you can’t find as a fresh installation or the not yet pasted on SH3 game.

Well may I suggest that The Grew Wolves has a lot to offer. As for more realism as U-boat Warfare atmospheric. Also that the TGW mod can be used with SH3Cmdr, Skins and Sh3 Gen. I say it’s worth giving an try with that. It’s not that hard to chance the way you used to play for something new.

If you can’t get your SH3 running like you used to do before, then I’ll say give TGW an try.

Also If I red it right that The Grew Wolves mod has been put together with a lot of small mods as well..maybe the one you used are packed in the TGW mod.

Default It didn't work

Well Hunter. I tried everything after copying my game from drive c: There must be an error in the game itself after being installed so many times from the cracked DVD as I still found errors.

Therefore, I have installed (on the e: drive) Silent Hunter III, patched it with the 1.4b patch and installed JSGME.

Now, where do I get the rar program to unpack rar files?

Okay, I will try your GW to see if I like it, but it will not likely have all the stuff I want in my game, so I will have to install those using JSGME.

I believe you said that GW will run with my using SH3 Commander snh SH3 Gen, Correct?

So the next thing I need is where to find the rar program and then where to find the GW Mod.
