hi guys!
Can anyone tell me if SH III (and Sub Command & Dangerous Waters for that matter) is compatable with wide screen monitors?

Just bought a CHIMEI 19" widescreen LCD, and it seems to work fine for me at a native 1440x900.
(SH3, I don't have the others) I say "seems" because I wasn't too sure what to expect, but at this stage there is no noticeable distortion. I'd be interested though in others experiences. |

yes it is but the image is sliightly stretched because the 1280x760 resolution cannot be changed...me thinks
the stretching is only very minimal and I cannot see any real difference now

A question...
Into a wide screen LCD monitor, you loss the top and the bottom of the screen. 1] It is posible to reduce the image height and put the full height into a WIDE LCD monitor, and have 2 black strips at monitor sides ? 2] Is too bad the ingame image if you use the sim in 1024x768 into a native 1280x1024 NO WIDE LCD ? I am looking for a 19/20 LCD but i cant decide to buy due to these "resolution problems" Last edited by Redwine; 09-11-06 at 07:51 AM. |

I'm having no issues with mine, whatsoever. It looks "normal".

I run in 1680x1050 on my 21" widescreen with no problem at all by using the Display Resolution fix.

You can run SH3 at any resolution you wish. However, if your aspect ratio is anything other than 4:3 your image will be distorted.

Delete both wmv movie files from data\movies\intro, maybe it works then.

Display Adapter Scaling will stretch the image to fit the entire screen even if it means distorting the image. Fixed Aspect Ratio Scaling will stretch the image to fit onto the screen without distorting the image. The result on a widescreen monitor and a non-widescreen game (SHIII) would be black bars on the sides of the screen. Vise Versa would be black bars on the top and bottom. I use the fixed aspect ratio scaling and like it on my LG 20.1" Widescreen (cheaper then the Dell and the same manufacturer). The little black lines on the side become less noticeable as you get into the game more. If you have a ATI card or more questions, check out www.tweakguides.com NVIDIA and ATI guides for more info. I highly recommend the information offered there. (I am not associated in anyway with them btw.) 2. As for playing a game in the non-native resolution, sometimes it is actually better. If you have a decent graphics card the scaling will smooth the image, somewhat like antialiasing, without any FPS loss of actual AA and a FPS gain over the higher resolution. I play several games just below the native resolution just for that reason. You will want to leave your desktop at the native resolution. |

Many thanks, i will take a look that.... ![]() Quote:
I cant understand this, if the pixels number is not coincident with the screen dot number, it means you must to use more than a dot for each pixel, is may be not bad if the relation is an entire number....but if not, you need a dot plus a fraction of dot for a pixel.... This do not cause a quality degradation intot he image ? Many, many thanks for your help ![]() ![]() |

I run the game on 17 wide screen.
No matter what i do the image is eather stretched / which hinders the plotting for the attack , due to distorted angles / or i end up with only center of my screen occupied by the game and the bars on the sides. Neather option being acceptable. I remember someone was posting the fix some time ago , with the settings as high as 3000 pixels and it was working fine. Unfortunately i can not find it now , and it slightly aggrievates me not being able to approach the target at the right angle for torp attack. |

The fix doen't fix anything. At least not the aspect. The resolution will still be higher, but it will still be stretched no matter what you do, plus you can't alt-tab.
You're better off cranking up AA and AF, and you'll just have to live with the crappy aspect. If you have a DVI monitor you may be able to set it so you have black bars on either side in your graphics driver settings... I'm not so lucky. |
