Default Type IX availability, Milkcows and resupply ships...

Good morning gentlemen!

A few quick questions for you experienced sailors:

1- I am using GW and I am interested in switiching soon to a type IX sub. What options are available to me? Can I only buy it with renown? Can I just transfer to a flotilla that would use them as the standard (I don't think so but you never know...). Finally, where and when does it become available (in the manual it states that some versions are available as early as 39).

2- Milkcows and resupply ships: Are they the same? How can I know where they will be, and how to use them?

Thanks!!

Ian

Hi & Welcome !

I'm using SH3 Commander, G.W1.1 and a plethora of other mods, plus my own campaign "mods".

1. The IXB is available from 10/49 (edit: lol 39 obviously, typo) with Flotilla Saltzwedel, using SH3 Commander's "Use historical uboot availablity dates". I'm not sure of the date with GW, could look in the files but I'm not at my game PC.

You can only change sub if you have adequate renown.

Transfer flotilla means you transfer with your current boat, regardless of what the other flotilla is using as standard. Hence you can take your IX to any flotilla, once you have it.

2. Milkcows are resupply uboots, supply ships are surface vessels (usually tramp steamers) from which you can resupply as well. If you press F1 in the GW 1.1, you willl get an info screen, click on resupply info and you will see names, locations of all resupply vessels. You will also receive a radio message from BdU informing you when a uboot has reached a resupply position and how long it will be staying there. Your next question may be: how do I resupply. You go within 30kms or right up to the vessel, press escape and click "dock at name_of_vessel e.g Corrientes resupply ship".

Thanks, very helpful!

Sidenote: I really ought to look into this SH3 Commander. Looks like a great addition.

Pleasure.

Suggestion: don't install or change anything if you are mid patrol, this is a good rule of thumb. Best to do it "in home base before mission" condition IMO.

SH3 Commander, must have addition.
Has lots of other cool features, my favorite being the failures, engine fatigue etc. it's just UBER!
