Ok I recently picked up SH3 again and for now i'm playing vanilla. Its 1943 now and I'm in the 2nd Flotilla. So far i've gone from a VIIB to a VIIC and then finally into a IXC.

Most my crew are fully decked out with medals and promotions (I love german stars in gold, no fatigue! wee.) i've been from Murmansk to Port of Spain and everywhere in between.

After my 20-somethingth patrol I decided it was time for a change, so I said farwell to most my sailors and petty officers until I reached the maximum allowed aboard a IID. However the game won't let me downgrade to a IID, yet it has no issues with going from a IXC to a VIIB for example.

Guess my dream of commanding a dugout canoe in the late-war goes up in smoke.. unless one of you clever boffins know otherwise.. :hmm:

Just a guess, might depend on what flotilla you are in. Some flotillas didn't use the type IID.
