Default torpedo depth

What does eveyone do with their depth settings on the torpedos. I got a few messages about magnetic and depth settings in game. Pretty much setting depth to zero and impact only. I am using grey wolves mod BTW. I have almost no luck with impact pistols no matter what angle I hit it. I usually just set depth a little under keel and use magnetics. Sometimes they work, some times they don't. Yesterday I fired two and one exploded on the way to target, the other hit and exploded just fine. I then surfaced and used deck gun.

The messages you get reflect how torpedo malfunctions were at the beginning of the war
Running 2 m under depth set and exploding prem due to bad weather and even IIRC the magnetics in the baltic waters causing problems

You should have no problem with impact pistols though - as long as your not hitting too low on the curve of the hull or at too bad an impact angle

I usually set my impacts between 3 and 5 m depending on the ship
DD need 2m
Keel shots are great as long as the weather is calm

I always go for keel shots regardless of the weather. Just compensate for waves. Calm waters - 1.5m below draft Rough seas 0.5 below draft, seems to work for me.

In case you may care about it, shooting at depth of less than about 3m is highly historically unaccurate; if torps "breached" the surface they would lose their aim (something thats not modelled in the game...) and fail, thats also why it was almost impossible to attack with big waves, like the 15m/s in game, since they made torps breach and get lost.
