Default SH3 and U-Boat: Battle in the Mediterranean problem

Hi all,

Yesterday I installed this addon ( U-Boat: Battle in the Mediterranean ).

I have been experiencing random pc crashes ever since. My pc would reboot by itself randomly during the game but *every* time I was playing SH3. I noticed that ..the pc would restart...my xp logo appeared and it would restart again...even 3 times in a row.

I thought I had a virus. I ran 2 thru scans with my antivirus and I was clean. I even scanned my pc with online web scanners.nothing.No spyware either..

Any of you know how to go about this ? I have a p4, 2.66, 512 ddr ram and a fx5200 with the latest drivers.

any help appreciated

Hello,

Thanks a lot for your response.I was reading this addons thread and noticed many ppl complained about it.As a matter of fact Trendmicro online scanner did find a big brother pest but I thought I got it somewhere else. I am going to unistall it and trash it for good as soon as I am done writing this post.I really can't thank you enough for telling me.

Do you know of any addon like this worth downloading ? Or anything that could improve my sh3 ?

Thanks a bunch in advance

P.s. If the author of this addon did steal other ppls mods he's a sorry f**

So it looks like they even stooped as low as putting a trojan virus/spyware into their product.

Such a proffesional job from X1/Combatplanes....NOT!!!!!!

Download one of the supermods in the mods forums
Grey wolves in my choice but try NYGM and Uboat war ace as well
Each to their own and of course - they are all free

Hah, I almost said you deserved to get bugged because of buying that crapola. But I didn't, did I? If there's a cause to be sarcastic, I said the damn pirates themselves (XI) deserve all the bad rep they can get.
Mods? Mod forum and lookie here

Just in case you didn't know already.

Ye gawds..what sort of lunatics are these X1 people..? bad enough that they use other folks hard work...but to include malware/trojan/spyware in the product aswell is simply abusive

---------------

I found out about how bad this "addon" was yesterday. I thought it was good because in the u-boat whatever thread a betatester said it was good. Then my pc went crazy so I registered here and found out what the truth is.live and learn.

I would have deserved worse than a trojan if I *knew* what I was doing prior to installing it.

Yeah, don't sweat it. These things happen, although I've never heard a game having bugs of this sort right out of the box. Good thing you posted and asked- a fair warning to anyone considering buying it. It's just that XI pulled the same stunt (minus trojans) with their Seawolves ie. stealing other people's mods and then some, making people here rather tetchy with anything XI related.
Happy sailings.
Oh, and welcome

Is there anyway to stop them ? They sure belong sued not only for theft but also for infecting people with their trojans.

Probably not for using freeware mods for profit. Ubisoft has the copyright's and decides what to do with it. They seem to have given XI permission to do what they want, although there was some discussion during the Seawolves farce that they could check their policies. Well, nothing happened so it looks like we can't do much about it, except inform retailers of the true nature of these 'add-ons'. Seemed to work quite well with Seawolves, several large outlets declining from offering it but I doubt people here will want to go through that ordeal again.
Only way to get them in real trouble is if it can be proved that the add-on and it's extra gifts damaged your computer. They'd have to compensate, their credibilty would take a quite a blow but in the end, they probably just fix the problem, say how sorry they are and continue their merry piracy. Money talks, BS walks.

To be honest, I checked this add-on last week, everything works fine,
but is hard to say about Your problem, can be many reasons, hardware
and software related.

AFAIK 'these' are only one: X1 Owner/whatever Steffen Trombke.

He's 27 or 28; judged by his emails and postings on several fora (well....where do I have the database with his various nicks...? ) he's most of the time very successful in hiding his bright mind behind some kind of 'fuzzy' logic and all but elaborated speech.

Hmmm, this add-ons (Seawolves and Meditteranean) are made by
Combatplanes, not X1, this is the same company ?
I thought X1 is only distributor......

Just courious...
