Well I was just wondering... Are there any old subsims out there that are now available for a free download? For the moment I'm playing Das Boot, first played it when a clasmate of mine gave it to me on a floppy. 10 years later I found this game somewhere on the web. ( Don't think it can be counted as warez?)
Now I was wondering.. are there any other old subsims out there that have become free because they are outdated? Thanks - |

Abandonware is something legal on certain countries, illegal on others. Since subsim is an international forum, the highest respect towards all kind of intellectual property is enforced, and topics or links to such stuff are not wellcomed. :hmm: Of course there is no problem with discussing and linking to legal downloads authorized by the copyright owners, and in that restricted sense I interpretate your question. And the answer is: Not that I am aware of. ![]()

As stated above, susim does not wellcome or allow any links to "abandonware" webs. Sorry guys, that link has been here before, and it is not allowed. Hitman -as moderator

Not exactly free, software available on E*Bay is close enough to it. I pick up most of my software on E*Bay. Most of the time, I get the CD only w/o a manual, but given publishing trends, there is often no manual to miss. The only problem with E*Bay is that I end up buying more software than I've got time to use. I bought Jane's 688 and ended up getting SC a little down the line. Newer stuff like DW is still in the $30 range, but SC can be had for well under $10, and you'll spend more on S&H for stuff older than that than on the final auction price.

Sometimes, software companies legally release older games (such as GTA and GTA 2) as freeware on their own sites, but I don't think any subsim has been released in such a manner. EBay would probably be your best source for cheap sub games (I got CAoD for under $10, including the manual and map). Also, there are used games on Amazon, some of which are extremely cheap.
As for free games, there is an open-source subsim which is currently being developed - Danger from the Deep. I personally think it is coming along very well, and you may want to check it out.:hmm: http://dangerdeep.sourceforge.net/ |

An alternate choice to e-bay is a french website who makes nearly the same job; every kind of used software is available there.
Very good for europeans, as delivery time and costs are usually a bit smaller. Unfortunately, I lost the link, but a quick search with french keywords, like "jeux usees" or "logiciels usees" could solve the problem. |
