Default Has this happened to anyone else ?

I've been playing SH3 since it came out .... for about one year, some 26 patrols, no real problems.

Then as I made it into '43 for the first time, I started to crash to Desktop every time I play, from 10 minutes to 50 minutes to 2 hours into a patrol (seems random).

I get the blue screen and usually "IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN ....", with a 'stop' command, typically 0x0000000A.

It only happens on SH3.

A few times the 'Stop' error code parameters pointed to a divide-by-zero.

I wondering if this is just a bug in the code? Something to do with radar/detection/ranges etc. ?

Could also be due to an upgrade to DirectX - 9c version ?

I changed many drivers, upgraded drivers, reloaded & repatched SH3, changed pagefile size, defraged, killed a lot of background stuff, swapped soundcards, changed hardware/software acceler. settings, etc. etc.

I am now thinking of a complete re-install from ground-zero, including XP.

The PC is 3 years old, so I need a new machine, but now I am waiting until SH4 arrives ..... and people report performance & bugs ..... so then I will go out and buy a decent machine that will run SH4 as smooth as silk!

Go to Microsoft's site, access the knowledge base and type the error in. I'll almost bet it's a ram issue. Hope this helps.

0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article, or see Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit, p. 1539.)
Typically due to a bad driver, or faulty or incompatible hardware or software. Use the General Troubleshooting of STOP Messages checklist above. Technically, this error condition means that a kernel-mode process or driver tried to access a memory location to which it did not have permission, or at a kernel Interrupt ReQuest Level (IRQL) that was too high. (A kernel-mode process can access only other processes that have an IRQL lower than, or equal to, its own.)

Thanks guys, but I've been through all of that .... to no effect .....

My main question was has SH3 suddenly gone unstable after a year of good performance, for anybody else out there. I still think it involves some interaction with Direct X 9c upgrade.

I solved the problem though. Bought a second 80 Gig HDD at the corner store for $50, used my restore disk to go back 3 years ago, stripped the original drive image of all other programs except XP, installed Nvidia 5500 drivers, installed and patched SH3, and moved over my career files.

No crashes yet.

So now I have two drives, one for XP SP1 with SH3, and one for XP SP2 with all my other stuff.

I just choose the boot drive and I'm good to go ....
