Default Broken Stopwatch?

I'm new to SHIII and Greywolves but trying to use manual targeting techniques.

At a certain point when trying to gauge my targets speed I mark his position on the map and then pull doen the stopwatch to tick off 3 and a half minutes - however - when I click on the stopwatch nothing happens! Do I have to wind it up or what? I'm sure I'm missing a step or have a setting wrong somwhere. Thanks for the help.

I had the same puzzlement when I first installed GW. So far as I can make out, the extra stopwatch is just a repeater - i.e. it only times the torp run like the stopwatch visible at the periscopes and UZO. I'm assuming that anyway as I can't find any way to start it manually either.

That's it, it just repeats, you have to use the one in the UZO or periscope view to start/stop/reset. Even though it means you have to jump to the map view for your first mark, it does mean that you can just eyeball the repeater for when to take your second mark at 3 1/4 minutes (if you're getting range and bearing from the watch officer).

Default 3 and a half?

I thought 3 and a half minutes was the majic number for calculating target speed...

To be really accurate you should start your watch at the UZO or periscope, go the map screen make sure the repeater is in view and working and then wait until the second hand passes a nice even number like 10 sec. Make your mark and then wait 3 minutes and 15 seconds which will show up on the stop watch as 3:15 plus in this case 10 extra seconds (3:25) and mark again.

I've been using the 3:15 rule for quite some time and jump between screens to set the watch, mark position and so on. There are slight timing/postioning errors when doing this but it still is accurate enough to get the speed within a knot

Is there a way to make the endless tick tock'ing stop in the gw mod?

When I goto the UZO or the attack scope, I can start and stop the stopwatch, but it has a ticking of its own, separate from the continuous tick tock'ing.
