Home in time for tea and medals

One or two good patrols just now - even if I only sunk two ships on the first one, and one on the second, at least I didn't get sunk. Which makes a nice change. Actually, the first encounter was a bit strange - I lost both my scopes to a destroyer that came charging over me while I was on the dive... Ploughed straight across the top of my tower and bowled me over... Then I copped a couple of depth charges close by, and the next thing I know, the destroyer's sinking and I'm hobbling away with a busted just-about-everything. Much hasty plugging of leaks ensues, but weirdly, I make it back in almost one piece. I wouldn't have thought running over a IIa submarine should make that big a hole in a destroyer. Anybody seen this sort of thing before?

Oh, and I have a question, too. I know victory is always better than defeat, and it's great to watch a torpedo hit home after hours of stalking your enemy - but is there any way to effectively shut that guy up who shouts "YESSS!" whenever I hit someone? He really, really annoys me. Can I get rid of or replace the sound file to make him go away?

Ta.

Thats a well known bug in the vanilla game - DD sinks as he hits you
IIRC the 1.4b patch cured this

Yes you can replace the sound file - cant remember which one it is at the moment tho
I have all my sounds in German - and in Grey Wolves that means I get the Das Boot cheer when ships get hit

EDIT
Try this thread for the cheers

I've never heard the cheer, even after 50+ patrols and numerous sinkings....

I heard the cheer once when I had just installed the game (the crew spoke in English as well). I have since then had the game in German and have not heard anything like the cheer except when I play using the Grey wolves mod.

There was a moratorium during the war at one point within the Royal Navy telling captains not to ram U-boats after some bad events where ships were either heavily damaged or even sunk because of it. One book I read recently the captain of an escort, HMS Hesperus, rammed a U-boat but was left with massive forward damage. The keel of the ship was actually crumpled back a fair bit causing flooding and left the ship stationary for some time until the damage could be sufficiently repaired to allow for forward movement. So it is possible for a DD to be sunk by the ramming of a U-boat though it isn't likely to happen without the U-boat also going down.
