Default SH3 commander kills my campaigns... (NYGM 2.0)

Okay, here's the situation breifly. I've put GW away for a bit, since I hear that NYGM is harder/more realistic. I use generic mod enabler to remove GW and then put in NYGM 2.0. I run a single mission and think "wow! the destroyers actually ping me now!" (I'd been having a problem where destroyers absoloutley never used sonar, no idea why, but that's a different problem), and everything's great.

So I get out of SH3 and start up SH3 commander, to make a new career starting 1939, everything's quite normal and happily running along at this stage. I boot up the game, select the new career, do all the pre-mission setup and start the mission. The progress bar gets halfway and stops. 15 minutes later, it's still there, and i find that the computer's not responding.

I reset and start messing with the program directory, thinking that my careless mod enabling has caused some problems, and that I can fix things by juggling things around. No luck, a full day of messing around with files/mods gives no result, so I uninstall SH3 and remove all traces of sh3 related programs from the computer, for a fresh install. I install SH3, patch it, put in the generic mod enabler, NYGM 2.0 and Fubar's skin pack (what? I like the sexy, new looking U-boats, allright?! :p). I start a test campaign at every step, and they all work perfectly. Then I install SH3 commander (ver 2.6.0.120), make a new campaign and start. The loading bar gets halfway and stops, just like it did before.

"maybe it's because I'm starting a new campaign through SH3C" I think, and start SH3 through it's default exe file, then load the new campaign I tested before installing SH3C... same result. My only choice is to say that SH3C in combination with NYGM 2.0 is causing my campaigns to fail loading.

Can anyone explain why, or tell me how to fix this?

edit: I Did a google search to see if it was a semi-common problem, but didn't turn anything up. Sorry if this is one of those things that's fixed easily by a mod patch or something :p

Well I am not using NYGM but IIRC there are some additional files in NYGM that you have to copy into SH3 commander

First off: GW is not less realistic than his brother NYGM, its just interpretes "realistic" in an other way!

One of many things can be the problem of your game! Have you tried to Alt-Tab out of the game when it freezes? Sometimes the Game would show a pop-up window warning, behind the actuall loading screen and thus stopping the bar from progressing. Try that first! Then we will rule other problems in or out!

Some of the DD (destroyers) have only passive sonar, which means they don't have ASDIC (that thing that "pings"). They only use a hydrophone to listen for you! Just like the one in your sub!

Get the files bigboy mentions! Scroll down the thread a bit! Observer posted them!

Have you also removed the old saves from GW which are located in Start/ MY Files or what ever this folder is called in the english windows. This one causes trouble quite a lot!

So thats for the beninning! let us know how it worked!

Ah yes, that's done it! Odd how it was also happening with SH3C 2.5 at first though. In any case, the fixed files have solved the problem, wish I'd seen them earlier :p

Also, I know some destroyers only have hydrophones, but in my case NO DD was using active sonar, even in 1945 during a single mission i'd run to test it out, during which i intentionally made all the mistakes in an effort to get the destroyers to chase me, but no luck, I got away from them in 5 minutes flat, even with my engines at full and after blowing up the carrier they were protecting with steam torpedoes.

But yes, it doesn't seem to be a problem now, so no point complaining

Thanks guys!

Default Grey Wolves problem?

I just installed the latest version of GW on a SH III v. 1.4 unmodded installation. Started a campaign career and vent to see only to discover that most of the ships in the identification handbook were named only Kontakt and when I sank a few ships and returned to base the ships were still reported as Kontakt 6790 tns etc... in SH3 commander. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to correct it?

Cheers Trident

You installed the "Generic Ship contact names" option, which does exactly what you described, it gets rid of all the ship names so you have to identify them for yourself with no assistance from the game. If you want to get rid of it reinstall greywolves and leave that option unchecked.
